Had many many steps to walk down to the 'beach' which was rocks not sand but swam in the Mediterranean! Praiano is built on the side of a mountain with narrow steep streets and step walk ways from one level to the next. Everywhere you look the views are spectacular. Just amazing. Afternoon tea on a cafe terrace overlooking the water, lemon cake was 😋Read more

Spent the day up in Revello- much higher up and really beautiful. Visited the very old Villa Rufolo and just loved it. Came back down from the mountain to the town of Amalfi.

    Praiano Amalfi Coast

    June 27, 2017 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Our drive from Naples to Praiano where we spent the next 5 days included stops at Sorrento, Positano and Ravello. All beautiful towns. Our accommodation at Praiano was very spacious with a little balcony and magnificent views of the Mediterranean and the village below us. Although getting to and from our accommodation meant many many MANY stairs we soon got to know the quickest way to get to the beach or to the bus. We have no guilt for what we ate here - the heat and the steps cancelled out any cannoli or lemon pie consumed 😆 Praiano is different from the other towns on the Amalfi Coast in that it has no centre as such, rather its whitewash houses dot the ridge of Monte Sant'Angelo and it is separated by a small tunnel so it feels quite spreadout. There are lots of restaurants and cafes all with stunning views. It has retained its atmosphere as a quiet fishing village although it is a seaside resort. The driving here is no different from anywhere else along the Amalfi Coast though - they are fearless and just a little crazy but there is no road rage, just a lot of tooting as warnings that they are there - so move it or lose it! May 9, 2016 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

We enjoyed a lovely sleep-in today. Flora got up early enough to enjoy a run to Scala with Aaron. The jog down was nice; the jog up was something else altogether. How in the world do those professional cyclists climb mountains over such long distances? We’ve seen kids riding ponies up and down this part of town; maybe Flora could hitch a ride.

The afternoon sees us driving along the Amalfi Coast to Praiano. It’s a tiny little village by the sea wedged between Positano and Amalfi. Have we left Earth and landed in Heaven?? This little bay that we came to was devoid of tourists (except maybe us) and flanked by steep cliffs on either side. The eye cannot comprehend such beauty. We have lunch at a café next to the pebbled beach before dipping into the clear blue waters.

The water is so refreshing (limb-numbingly freezing cold)! After about 3 minutes of the body acclimatising to an ice bath, our swim was one of the most pleasant experiences we’ve had on this trip. The view of the bay as we treaded water is (I’m at a loss of words here) just breathtaking. In true Aussie style, we dried off (sun-baked) atop the pebbles and spent a good couple of hours lazing around without getting sunburnt. Praiano, you are truly a magical little gem in the Amalfi Coast.
