      Ultimi scatti….

      March 1 in Japan ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

      My first day Tokyo Baby

      April 3 in Japan ⋅ 🌧 14 °C

Tokyo, finally - after a rough first night, we headed off to discover this beautiful city. Starting at the amazing shibuja crossing with the seemingly efficient pedestrian and traffic flow (by the way it doesn’t look half as impressive as on the instagram posts), walked through the little park close by to get a good glimpse of Neiji Shrine, had amazing food, admired the 3D cat board and so much more … wow it’s just an amazing cityRead more

      Tokyo nights

      September 15, 2023 in Japan ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Golden Gai is a small area, which is located in Kabukicho. It is composed of a network of six narrow alleys, connected by even narrower passageways which are about wide enough for a single person to pass through. It is full of tiny bars and restaurants, many of which only seat 6 patrons at a time.

Ramen and fried chicken for dinner.

      Golden Gai

      April 2, 2023 in Japan ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

      Tokyo Day 2

      May 9, 2023 in Japan ⋅ 🌙 14 °C

We started the day with ramen from a booth @IchranShibuya. The whole process of food ordering and serving in Japan is fantastic and so efficient. We entered (another) underground restaurant where we placed our order and payment through a machine where we tickets were printed for us. This was a ramen only place and they had chosen to do one thing and do it well! We handed the lady the tickets and she gave us an order sheet where we had options for broth richness, spiciness, garlic content, meat content etc.. There was a panel indicating which seats/booths were currently occupied, free and being freed up. As soon as two were freed up for us, we entered through the typical Japanese half-curtains to our booth(s) which looked much like the prison call booths that you see in movies. There were bamboo blinds in front of each person which would be lifted and your order taken or dish served to you. The kitchen/meal preparation area was literally just on the other side of the blinds.

It turned out to be quite a full day out to Shinjuku, Harajuku and Shibuya. We explored the famous Meiji Jingu (shrine) and wandered through Yoyogi park after strolling through the vibrant and energised streets of Harajuku. In this area there is a very quirky sense of fashion that’s embraced. As in typical Japanese style, there are cafes of all sorts - dog cafe, cat cafe, owl cafe, otter cafe, maid cafe… the list goes on.

We made it to Shibuya crossing aka “The Scramble” at rush hour and watched hoards of people crossing the 6-way crossing at the same time. It’s like a calm chaos that we did not see in the other countries we visited on this trip! The others were just pure chaos. In between the crisscrossing of pedestrians, we’d see Mario carts being driven along the main city streets. Yup, only in Japan is driving a go cart through the city in a Mario (or other cartoon) outfit a tourist attraction!
The Birds Eye view we got from the top of one of the buildings was definitely worth the fee of a single beverage per person!

After this, we went to see Tokyo city at night. Not as lively as Shibuya and Shinjuku as this was mainly the business district. There were loads of restaurants with little/no English on the menu which suggests it was mainly where locals would visit for their evening meals rather than tourists getting the Japanese experience! We settled on Japanese Katsu curry which really hit the spot!

      Shinjuku Tokyo, JPN

      January 4, 2023 in Japan ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

Was ihn zusätzlich besonders macht? Ein schwarzer Fleck auf dem linken Hinterlauf, der die Form des Stadtteil Shinjuku hat.

      Nov 23 (Thu) HAPPY THANKSGIVING

      November 23, 2023 in Japan ⋅ ☁️ 59 °F

Happy Thanksgiving!! I’m grateful for my loving family, my husband’s patience and enthusiasm, my daughter’s sense of humor and easygoing attitude, my extended family at home taking care of my furbabies and for all the wonderful experiences and kind people we’ve met on our trip. It has never been more evident to me how important it is to attempt to speak in a foreign language while in other countries. Every single time any of us even tried to speak, people just lit up.

This morning we went to Hanazono Shrine to the Tori-no-Ichi Festival. People sell decorated rakes to bring good fortune to whoever buys them. The ads small signs and stickers as “service freebies” to increase where the luck is directed. The first stall Kyrie and Greg went to ignored them. I was taking pictures so I wasn’t with them at the beginning, but after a bit it was obvious. So we left. We found something at one stall then saw a super cute rake with a blue kitty on it. We asked prices but the particular owner of the stall wasn’t there but as soon as we apologized in Japanese the two neighboring stalls sprang into action. From then on it was a group effort. The stall owner happened to have studied English in New York when he was in high school. They gave us a big discount and kept adding and adding things to our rake for family harmony, safety and success, traveling mercies, and even fire safety. Then the neighbor stalls pitched in too! They even did the wood claps and chants for us that are usually reserved for big spenders. It was such a great experience…and a great thing does Kyrie to experience. We will treasure our rake forever.

We went fairly early in the morning to the shrine so it wasn’t super busy. We dropped Kyrie back at the hotel then headed into Ueno to find some last day souvenirs.

For early Thanksgiving dinner we had KFC, hahahaha. Turkey isn’t really a thing here. We wandered a bit more and then back to PACK. Kyrie and I procured late dinner from Lawson on our side of the street and the other side of the street so we could find Greg proper sustenance of chicken Katsu with curry noodles.

We got everything (mostly) to fit!! Sadly that means we have to go home tomorrow….
