Kanazawa

Ich hatte leider nur einen Tag in Kanazawa und hätte sehr gern noch mehr Zeit gehabt, die Stadt zu erkunden. Sie ist die schönste und beeindruckendste Stadt Japans, die ich bisher gesehen habe. Durch ihre historisch wertvollen Distrikte, die bis heute gut erhalten sind, und ihr regionales Kunsthandwerk ist sie ein beliebtes Reiseziel. Mich haben vor allem die zwei „Chaya Districts“ (Chaya = „Teehaus“) beeindruckt, in denen Geishas im 17. Und 18. Jahrhundert (Edo-Zeit) die Allgemeinheit u.a. durch Tänze, Singen und Teezubereitung (Teezeremonie) unterhalten haben. Man konnte viele dieser Teehäuser betreten und sich deren Innenleben mit Tatami-Matten, Herd, verschiedenen Sitzecken für die Gäste und den Zugang zum Innenhof-Garten anschauen. Außerdem habe ich dem im 17. Jahrhundert angelegten Kenroku-en Garten einen Besuch abgestattet, in welchem die Bäume, Pflanzen, Teiche, Brücken, Schreine und Teehäuser ebenfalls nach alter japanischer Tradition gestaltet waren. Dieser Park war direkt neben dem Kanazawa-Schloss, welches ich allerdings nur von außen gesehen habe. Ich hatte das Glück, dass mir die japanische Couchsurfing-Gastgeberin Misato die Stadt gezeigt hat. Das war eine echte Überraschung, da die Englisch-Kenntnisse der meisten Japaner*innen eher gering ausgeprägt sind. Durch Misato habe ich auch mehr Kontakt zu den Locals gehabt, da sie durch ihre Muttersprache Japanisch gut „vermitteln“ konnte. Sie hat mir auch den berühmten Fischmarkt „Omicho-Market“ gezeigt, der ebenfalls seit dem 17. Jahrhundert existiert. Abends haben wir bei ihr zu Hause zusammen gekocht: Es gab Soba mit Nori, Tofu, Ingwer, Wasabi und Dashi (Brühe mit Sojasaucen-Fisch-Geschmack). Ich habe mich sehr gefreut, Misato kennengelernt und gleich von Anfang an eine so gute Freundschaft mit ihr gefunden zu haben!

Unfortunately, I only had one day in Kanazawa but would have loved to spend more time exploring the city. It is the most beautiful and impressive town in Japan that I have seen so far. It is a popular tourist destination due to its historically valuable districts, which are well preserved until today, and its regional arts and crafts. I was particularly impressed by the two "Chaya Districts" (Chaya = "tea house") where geishas entertained the general public in the 17th and 18th century (Edo period) by dancing, singing and preparing tea (tea ceremony). You could enter many of these tea houses and see their interior with tatami mats, stove, various seating areas for guests and access to the courtyard garden. I also visited the Kenroku-en Garden from the 17th century in which trees, plants, ponds, bridges, shrines and teahouses were also designed in the ancient Japanese tradition. This park was next to Kanazawa Castle which I only saw from the outside. I was lucky to meet the Japanese Couchsurfing host Misato who kindly showed me around in the city. This was a wonderful experience since the English skills of most Japanese are rather poor. With the help of Misato I had more contact with the locals as she mediated very well between me and them. She also showed me the famous fish market "Omicho Market" which also exists since the 17th century. In the evening, we cooked together at her place: We had soba with nori, tofu, ginger, wasabi and dashi (broth with soy sauce fish flavor).
