      Heute Morgen ging es mit dem Zug nach Alor Setar und von dort hab ich dann ein Grab zum Hafen und dann eine Fähre zu Insel genommen. Der Zug war wie ein Schweizer Zug. Ich bin am Hafen um 13 Uhr angekommen und die Fähre ist um 16 Uhr gefahren. Auf Langkawi angekommen bin ich an Strand um den Sonnenuntergang anzuschauen und dann bin ich früh ins Bett weil ich morgen früh aufstehen muss.Read more

      Langkawi/Retour en thailande

      Découverte de Langkawi, une île dans le nord de la Malaisie, proche de la frontière avec la Thaïlande.
      On y restera une bonne semaine en profitant bien de la plage/ se remettre au sport/ et manger bien évidemment !
      Une super découverte l’île est vraiment belle, il faisait super beau, la végétation est vraiment particulière ici !
      On se décide de bouger après une semaine pour retourner en Thaïlande , on choisit koh lanta, une île où l’on était juste passé en 2018, cette fois-ci on y reste 5jours, on profite encore bien de la plage/sport/ nourriture(retour du padthai 😍)/ on visite l’île en scooter, ici c’est bien différent de la Malaisie, tout le monde roule torse nue/ sans casque, beaucoup plus de touristes.
      Mais bon on est en haute saison c’est normal, et on a trouvé un logement proche d’une plage sans trop de monde avec des couchers de soleil de fou !
      On a aussi fait une journée d’excursion aux « 4iles » une journée bien rempli avec de très bonne découverte 2 plages paradisiaques aussi belle qu’aux Philippines ! et des spots de snorkelling vraiment impressionnants aussi (on a vu une murène de 1m50/2m dans l’eau (un boa des mers comme dirait Sarah ))
      On a manger comme des rois à midi et nager dans une grotte sur 50m, une journée vraiment cool ! 👍
      Maintenant direction Koh samui une île au sud Est de la Thaïlande !      Read more

      Mit dem Bus und der Fähre dauert die Fahrt von Penang nach Langkawi nicht sehr lange.

      Die vier Tage auf der Insel standen hauptsächlich im Zeichen von Baden und Erholen. Zwei Tage düsten wir mit einem Roller umher, besuchten Wasserfälle, schöne Strände, einen kleinen Wasserpark und schwebten mit einer Seilbahn hoch über den tropischen Wäldern. Oben teilten wir die fantastische Aussicht mit vielen anderen Touristen. Spass gemacht hats trotzdem.

      Zwei kleine Wehrmutstropfen gibt's aber doch noch. Seit gestern hat Janis leider etwas Fieber. Und dann war noch dieses Fussballspiel in Zürich. Ich weiss gar nicht, was mehr ärgert. Das Spiel oder das fast nicht funktionierende WLAN im Hotel...
      Jedenfalls gab es eine kurze Nacht. Nur 4.5 Stunden nach Abpfiff klingelte der Wecker. Unsere Reise geht weiter zur thailändischen Insel Koh Lipe. Unter der Voraussetzung, dass für die Einreise an der Grenze keine Temperaturen gemessen werden.. 🤒      Read more

      Langkawi

      Viel mehr los ist auf Langkawi. Wunderschöne Strände, wilde Wasserfälle, geheimnisvolle Mangrovenwälder aber auch Party, ein breites Wassersportangebot und moderne Shoppingsmalls (Langkawi ist eine zollfreie Zone, daher ist hier alles etwas günstiger als auf dem Festland). Kurz nach unserer Ankunft schauen wir zusammen mit Mario und Iris den WM-Final an und zumindest Thomas feiert den Weltmeistertitel der Gauchos ⚽️🎉. Die nächsten 5 Tage erkunden wir die Insel mit dem Roller, rutschen den Wasserfall hinunter und wagen uns auf eine der höchsten und spektakulärsten Gondel-Seilbahn der Welt und laufen über die Skybridge. Thomas, mit leichtem Hang zur Höhenangst, fühlt sich jedoch nicht ganz so wohl beim Gang über die hängende Brücke hoch über dem Dschungel. Wohl fühlt er sich auch nicht wirklich beim Parasailing. Endlich probieren wir das mal aus (in Europa war uns das immer zu teuer). Als wir aber 80 m über dem Meer am Fallschirm hängen erinnert sich Thomas an sein Jugendidol Homer Simpson, bei dem damals das Seil riss beim Parasailing, und darum ist er froh nach 10 Minuten und intaktem Seil wieder sicher auf dem Boot zu sein. Patty dagegen wäre gerne noch stundenlang wie ein Vogel durch die Buchten der Insel geflogen.
      Uns gefällt es auf der Insel hervorragend. Zwar ist es am Hauptstrand etwas touristisch, aber keine 200 m dahinter findet man noch das authentische und ursprüngliche Malaysia. Aber auch das wird wohl in ein paar Jahren nicht mehr so sein. In Gesprächen mit einheimischen erfahren wir das chinesische Investoren bereits über 50% der Insel besitzen und es diverse Projekte gibt mit grossen Hotelkomplexen, Vergnügungspärken und gar einer Auto-Rennstrecke (Nürburgring des Osten’s). Dann wird es wohl auch kein Platz mehr haben für das Gecko Guesthouse, unserer Unterkunft hier. Ein kleines und einfaches Gästehaus 100 m vom Strand. Das einfache Doppelzimmer mit geteiltem Badezimmer kostet gerade mal 10 CHF für die Nacht. Katzen muss man jedoch mögen, so bevölkern sicher 10 Katzen die Gemeinschaftsbereiche der Unterkunft, zur grössten Freude von Patty. 😻      Read more

      Mopedausflug

      Das Hostel war wohl ein Griff ins Klo, aber die 3 Nächte für insgesamt 12€ sind bezahlt, also Augen zu und durch.
      Die erste Scootertour steht an. Ohne Plan fahren wir nach Norden und bleiben überall stehen wos uns gefällt. Nach ein paar Stunden im Nieselregen wirds dann doch sehr ungemütlich. Zufällig kommen wir an Thermalbecken (~40Grad) vorbei, perfektes Timing also. Der Eintritt liegt eigentlich bei 80 Ringit (17 Euro), aufgrund einer Baustelle mussten wir nur 5 Ringit bezahlen und hatten das ganze Areal für uns alleine 😎Read more

      Hallo Langkawi

      Zum dritten Mal hol ich mir das malaysische Frühstück am gleichen Stand, weils soo lecker ist. Garlictoast with half-boiled eggs, cheese and icetea with milk für 2€. Danach spazier ich in die berühmte Ecke mit all den Streetarts, pack meinen Rucksack, lauf zur Bushaltestelle und hier treff ich wieder auf Jenni, die nächsten Tage werden wir gemeinsam reisen - auf nach Langkawi. Eine Insel nördlich von Penang. Vor Corona gabs hier eine direkte Fähre, leider jetzt nicht mehr. Also gehts mit dem Grab (Taxi) zum Busbahnhof, rüber aufs Festland, nach Kedah, wieder Grab, Fähre und wieder Grab. Relativ kompliziert und es sind ca. 9 Stunden vergangen.
      Mal schauen was für Abenteuer auf der Insel auf mich warten 😎

      Breakfast in Raos my usual place consists of a Tose which is a pancake/thin omelette accompanied by a coconut chutney and Dahl with a brew coffee. I'm not a big eater in the mornings and curry for breakfast is definitely not the norm, but after a few months I'm kind of used to it and actually really enjoy it. I need to eat as much as possible today because there will be quite a few beers being sunk later and I need to absorb the alcohol. One of the locals has invited me and Uncle Johnny to his home to take advantage of his pool and I'm glad to say its a lot clearer than Uncle Johnny's and the views are spectacular. Its up in the hills and overlooks the mountains and paddy fields below. The rice grown here is grown on flat land unlike terraces in other parts of Asia. The crazy part is most of this rice is actually exported and the Malaysian people eat mainly white rice. We enjoy a few beers and I really enjoy the tranquility of this hillside location. I've arranged to join Andrew and Nathan at Flos but have to get a grab as it's pouring down. When I arrive the rain and wind is so torrential its pouring through the slatted windows and soaking the carpet and the doors are having to be held closed. We head to cinnamon for a farewell drink and Amy gives me a little present to say goodbye. It's also the pre opening of the bar that's been under construction opposite my room. The rainbow bar is also showing the game tonight on a big projector screen. At about 2am I stupidly think I'll get a quick hour shut eye , only to be woken at 440am to shouting and realise I've missed most of the game. I jump up and walk into the bar to find Real Madrid are 1 0 up and the shouting was being done by Man United supporters. I stay for the end of the game and although dissapointed I'm proud of the team. Thank God I literally only have to roll into bed.Read more

      Grand reunion

      I wake in the morning and head straight for coffee. I then make my way to the beach. I have missed the water so much. As i walk along i see little balls of sand everywhere and when i stop to inspect its baby sand bubble crabs. They digest the sand and sort the nutritional stoff like a wasshing machine in they're mouth then spit out the sand in little balls. I spend most of the morning on the beach near. I spend an hour chatting to a Polish lady named Marta before getting a message fromAnnie and Judith. They are heading to Tanjung Rhu beach with a couple of guys from their hostel and when they say a Canadian and German, i know they are talking about Carl and Toby.So after purchasing a few beers we all meet at the hostel and the guys laugh when they see me. We all jump in a large grab and it takes a good 40 minutes to get there but its so worth it. The beach is beautiful and we're also joined by a guy called Sebastian who has a drone. Another girl called Stephanie is here and very similar to Thailand we all seem to take the similar path through Malaysia. We spend the afternoon sitting in the sea drinking beer and taking footage with the drone. Eventually we run dry so Annie and I go to a little shack on the beach and return with 2 trays of 7 tiger beers in cold glasses. We are like heroes. The sunset here is so beautiful but as we come to leave we can't get a taxi for love or money. Eventually I manage and as we're on the way back I realise we're heading in the wrong direction. There are two bed attitude hostel on the island and I've selected the wrong one. The driver kindly accepts the new destination and after an hour we eventually arrive back. The plan was to go to red tomato but when we arrive its shut so we walk along and decide to settle for the street food. As we arrive a kind lady named ju offers for us to sit with her and her two children and literally as we take a seat her daughter projectile vomits every where. As she ushers her away I follow with tissues and water. Shortly after I make my way home as I have set my alarm for 3am to watch the Liverpool game.Read more

      Back in the saddle

      I've hired a bike today and I plan to head to Kuah. There isn't much to see there but I'm interested in the Naval base that's enroute. I have a breakfast in the local place near me called Raos banana leaf I have the kopi brew which is a strong bitter coffee sweetend by condensed milk and chapati with a small curry. Its delicious and ill be back for the banana leaf rice which is rice served very hot on a banana leaf giving it additional flavour and sides of vegetables and curry. After brunch I chill in my hammock as I don't really want to be riding in the rain yes I say rain not the midday sun as its been a little shower this morning. I enjoy my ride in the afternoon its a while since I've had a bike but the road here is pretty good and I manage to dodge all showers. I make my way back to my place and get chatting to Ruth who is a teacher and travelling for 8 months and Dean who is working out here remotely. There are so many ways to travel and fund it and I feel extra appreciative today that I am actually doing this. I invite Ruth to join me for dinner and we stroll to the end of the road and enjoy a wonderful fish dinner. There is killer pool at the supper club tonight so I ask if Ruth wants to join we walk down and when we enter it all Malaysian men apart from one lady. Its 5 rm to participate and in the first round I get knocked out in second to last place. The guys here are really good and when I say really good I mean it. Half way through an old guy called Uncle Johnny comes in I got talking to him this morning in the restaurant and he said he might call in. I put my 5rm in for the second round of killer and I'm shocked to say I win. We get bought a beer and I collect my 45rm winnings. One of the guys here is a die hard Liverpool fan(there are a lot of them in Malaysia) and after a few selfies we bid our farewells. I've had a wonderful evening but I'm ready for bed.Read more

      A day with the locals

      I wake quite late but sometimes sleep is needed. I go to the local restaurant and take tge banana rice with chicken masala. I've messaged Ruth but had no response so I guess she's sleeping. We were due to take a proper Malaysian lunch with Aiman but he messaged earlier to say it would need to be tonight. When I get back to my room Ruth is awake so I go back to the restaurant with her and just have a coffee. We've opted for a beach day and after lunch make the 5 minute walk down there. Its so hot today I'm in and out the sea like a yoyo but refuse to pay the 30rm for a brolly. Box Jellyfish are predominant here and im always wary when I can't see my feet so it a quick dip in and out each time. On the way back we stop at a little restaurant on the front and grab a coke and water but I honestly think they over charge me and its a crazy thing because its next to nothing but it's the principal. We head home and shower and Aiman picks us up as promised. I've not eaten Malay food since I've been here and he takes us to this traditional Malay roadside restaurant. The owner goes out in his fisherboat during the day then goes to bed while his wife cooks them. While were sat in the restaurant a guy comes in with supply department and a warship on the back of his t shirt and I say I'm ex navy but I don't think he understands. Afterwards we head to bistro 33 and watch live music I look at the menu and a beer is 7rm in here and a gin and tonic 18rm(£3.30) I have two beers and a g+t and Ruth and Aiman have 3 g+ts and the bill comes to 82rm the locals get near enough half price drinks so it's really handy. On the wall is a picture of the prime minister he was in charge for 20 years and then did another 5 years but is now the electorat of Langkawi. Very well respected here which is more than can be said for boris. We go on to woods which was the bar we were in the other night and play pool. We even get Ruth playing and she does really well.
