    August 20, 2022 in the United Arab Emirates ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

So FlyDubai is weird. You need to pay to watch TV, even more for movies? Good thing I downloaded Netflix movies 😃 But here I am, halfway. 2 more hours and then off to Jakarta. Also finally got to some good food today - massaman curry! Off to hunt for cookies 🧐Read more

    Hello Jakarta!

    August 20, 2022 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

20 hours of airports, airplanes, semi-sleeping, airplane food (yes, I love that stuff), waiting in lines, covid questions, visas, customs (ha some Japanese dad got busted trying to smuggle looots of alcohol haha)... And I'm finally here! Finally with my Lili ❤️ again 😊
Since it's dark I have no idea how it looks like here but from first look - Asia baby! ❤️ Cables and scooters and palm trees and street food and tiny people. I'm gonna love this!

    Trippin Jakarta

    August 21, 2022 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Mmmmm, the wonderful sweet smell of Asia. I love it. It's nice waking up to it. Continuing tradition of staying in a proper hotel to overcome the jetlag.. Sooo it's was nice waking up to to a sound of jazz and looking at hotel garden with trees! And of course there was a pool, so we went for a swim immediately. It's so nice chilling in pool and watching huge city of Jakarta over the fence. Good morning Indonesia ❤️
After breakfast we headed to the center to a museum, where we also met Lili's friend Ilja. The museum is really nice, showing how huge this country actually is, sooo many islands and languages, so many tribes, so many nice sculptures,.. I'm gonna love this country!
After museum it was time to see National monument, the huge obelisk in the park in the center of Jakarta. We didn't bother much for waiting in line to go up, it was too hot. This city has trees but they cannot fix the head of huge concrete squares. So instead we went to the Istiqlal mosque. This thing apparently takes up to 200k people 🤯
So hot, too hot, we had to chill and went for old town - a place still there from dutch times. Aaaand of course they had biterbalen 😃 Compared to Amsterdam they were shit but what was more important - this place had beer. I ordered jumbo size! Well, "jumbo" here is regular 0,5l beer at home 😂
Of course, as always in Asia, people were coming to us to take pictures and selfies with us, I'm talking whole families, granmas and all! But they are the sweetest people 😊
We ended up the day with some more street food, shrimps, tempeh, sambal and whatnot. And there was some rodent also available to eat (yum-ee) but I passed it 😃
Tomorrow it's train time 💪 Yogya here we come!

    Yogyakarta 🚂

    August 22, 2022 in Indonesia ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

It's time to move on! Having a 9am train to Yogyakarta. Traffic in the morning was super busy so we got there just in time, phew! But we had a cool taxi driver, he even sung to us!
Trains here are nice! Wifi, AC, seats you can put well back, really well organized. Ride took around 6 hours to arrive to Yogyakarta. What a nice hippy city, full of coffee bars, cute little streets 😊
We had a quick dinner and ended up the day in some brewery / rock bar, where some Spanish families celebrated some birthday. Sooo much singing and fun 😃

    Prambanan 🛵

    August 23, 2022 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

Temples. I love temples. Walking around them makes me feel super calm with all the silence and thinking how things must've looked like 😊
We got a scooter for 80.000idr (5€), put some gas in for 2€ and off we went. 20km to Prambanan, Hindu temple, mostly ruined in 2006 earthquake. But it's still lovely, main buildinga stand proud 💪
It was HOT! We found some awesome icecream which made it better! We're lucky there aren't that many tourists still. Now is the time to travel haha.
After Prambanan we went to another temple, smaller but cuter, Lili says.
We drove back to the Yogyakarta, driving here is...not as rough as India, people drive very nicely, making right turns in big intersections is of course tricky, especially with Indonesians cutting corners 😂 But it awesome to drive in Asia, always!
Lili found some nice place to eat. Again, they had Bitterballen, these were yummy! Also had some noodles and bunch of juices and lassi!
Now we're chilling, making plans for tomorrow and off to go find a pharmacy because of course I got sunburned, classic 🤪

    Borobudur 🛕

    August 24, 2022 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

We had to get up eeeeeearly. 3am to go for the sunrise Borobudur tour. I was still all sticky from the chinese medicine i had to put on burns but it fixed then quite well. Too early 😂
They drove us for an hour to some hill to wait for sunrise. Beautiful! Morning mist, butterflies and birds waking up, just lovely. And you could see volcanoes in the distance!
Next we went to Borobudur. This is the largest buddhist temple apparently. This is huge! Sadly due to covid and being on Unesco list you cannot climb to the top anymore. Boo. But still, it's majestic! 🤯 Fun fact: this used to be to black stones but because some Dutch colonialist genius couldn't take a picture of it - they painted it yellow. Like a submarine 😂
Maybe due to early waking up and also me being burned from sun a bit I got really weak somehow. Just couldn't stay awake. So when we got back we asked next airbnb if we can arrive early and they said ok. Yay.
We're in this beautiful house outside of Yogyakarta, with a view over the fields, banana trees, papayas, all kinds of animals around. This is relaxation! My Lili ❤️ is enjoying this soooo very much! And I finally feel better after getting some extra nap. Aaaand used Gojek to order some pizza delivery, junk food always helps 😊

    Cruisin' around 🛵

    August 25, 2022 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

It's so awesome waking up in the middle.of nowhere, sounds of birds, gekkos, nature... Serenity. This house has this nice outside bathroom (you just need to wait for all ants to get washed away first haha). So after a breakfast a plan was made - scooter and driving around countryside to a waterfall. Lili did all the research and figured it all out. Nice!❤️
Driving around here is more pleasant than in city. These villages are beautiful, aaaaall people smiling at us wheh they see us, kids waving, tiny grandma's staring... We first stopped at some place that is probably usually touristic but sadly (well good for us!) not yet due to covid. So we got some coffee (and ice cream breakfast!). Watching kids all curiously walking around us, they are so cute haha.
We then continues over some hills and stopped in the middle of nowhere for some lunch. My Lili discussed and ordered a delicious soup with... chicken feet (see picture haha). Yum-eee. 🐔It's not as horrible as it sounds (soup by itself was goooood) but I didn't ask for seconds 😂
Soon we arrived to waterfall which is nice. Water is a bit low and not so good to swim but it was nice to sit in the jungle, watching out for coconuts not to fall on our heads and chill in the shade. And we had the whole place for ourself! This country is beautiful 😊
Toward the evening we returned to the house. Now chilling, watching lights in the distance. Waiting for Gojek (like Wolt or Deliveroo) to bring us food. Yumm!

    Awesome countryside ❤️

    August 26, 2022 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

New day new adventure 💪 I woke up early, went out and a cat came along. He's nice. We called him Dudi by a taxi driver we saw in Jakarta (I shit you not). So after breakfast and getting our laundry back (mmmmm) it was time to ride again! Well, almost, because in my helmet I found a huge spider. Pheeww 😅 This would've been fun if I saw it during driving 😂
It was time for the beach! Yeah! Beach is around 20 km to the south. No one anywhere, looks almost like post-apocalyptic. You can see where all the restaurants are but all closed or empty. Well this tiny grandma waved so we went there for coffee. I had no idea what she and her husband were telling us but Lili, the communication officer, seemed to get into the chat just fine 😂 These old people are beautiful!
Then we walked to the beach. Sooo awesome, black sand!!! and it was great to hear and see the power of the Indian ocean - roaring. It was quite windy so waves were big! I was being careful about weather so we headed back. Through small roads. We drove through small villages, all kids waving, smiling,.. I always smile when driving here so it's nice seeing some serious mom starting getting smile back 😃 We were trying to find some waterfall, got lost few times in the process haha. Finally we got there but the water level is so low it wasn't much of waterfall 😕
Lili then rembered there is a chocolate factory nearby. Hell yes! It's a Belgium thing and they also had nice food soooooo... Quiche, pancake cake, some tart with chocolate 😋 Aaaand went through chocolate museum and factory. Sadly - no chocolate to try haha.
Now we're home, chilling on porch, listening to calls to prayer, watching fireflies. Lovely 😊

Update: when you hear "Marko?! Marko?!" you know shit hit the fan. 🤣 There was a huge spider in bedroom. I hate them. And it moved. Eek. Somehow we got him out, sprayed all around the door for the beast not to return haha. I might sleep tonight. Maybe. Hmm. Sure. Right. Right?

    Wandering around Yogyakarta

    August 27, 2022 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Time to go back to Yogyakarta and evening train to Malang. We took a quick morning walk around rice fields in front of our house, scratch the cats and called taxi. Time to go 😕 Or better yet - continue 💪
In Yogyakarta it was my lady's day. So first my Lili ❤️ picked some traditional local food made of jackfruit. It's a specialty here and it's pretty good! We sat, ate, watched tiny granmas 😊
We wanted to go see the palace but of course it was closed today. Meh. So we went to some bath place of the Sultan (yup, they have Sultan in Yogyakarta). While walking there some grandpa joined us and start guiding us. He was funny 😊 And check this - half way there he got us to a place where they produce and sell kopi luwak! And they had an actual luwak there, so cute! Of course we tried the coffee and bought some 😃 Lili was "meh medium" but I like it, it's strong.
Soon we arrived to bath place. It's pretty awesome, big pool and all, they also have old streets and underground mosque, which, sadly, was closed due to covid. And sooo many birds in cages singing everywhere (also the damn shitting pigeons e-ve-rywhere!).
It's really nice waking around here, cool art and grafiti all around the city, tiny streets, feels like it's not a 3mio city at all. Lili was guiding us to this art/book store for tea and chill time 😊
We ended up the day with nice dinner (Bitterballen of course haha) and a proper massage for my lady ❤️ (and note from Lili: Marko took me to a VEGAN! place. Wow people, that's love haha). (Hi, Marko here again. Salad called "burger" was lekker 😋🤣).
Now we're sitting on the train to Malang, we're arriving there at 3am. Yikes. But we're seeing some really cool waterfall tomorrow! Can't wait! 😃
