    Germany / Regensburg

August 11, 2017 in the Netherlands

    11th August 2017.
Arrived in Regensburg this afternoon. A real Bavarian town. Had a Bavarian lunch and staff got dressed in Bavarian costumes. Quite neat. Weather is cloudy and overcast with showers. Went for a little walk through the town. It is known as the ^ Medieval wounder of Germany^. This old town suffered hardly any damage in the second world War. It's now part of the UNESCO world cultural heritage.
The last night on this boat. Transfer to our new boat tomorrow. Had a great night with a guy playing an electric violin. Graham was a dick and got up and danced the Irish jig. What a laugh. All these boring old farts. Had a few drinks. Last ones to go to usual.

August 8, 2017 in the Netherlands

After our quick afternoon tour we went back to the boat for an early dinner as we were going to a classical concert at the City Palais Liechtenstein. What a beautiful palace. No wounder the poor people rebelled when they wasted so much money on such extravagant buildings. We got all dressed up and had drinks before the concert in this most beautiful room. Chandelier and gold on the walls. After drinks we listened to a great orchestra playing music by Strauss and Mozart. Very dynamic display by young musicians. Also the Vienna boys choir now allows girls to join this Academy and we had a group of young girls sing to us. Also had a young lady sing a aria and a spunky young guy sung a tenor. Awesome night. We are getting culturally sophisticated.Read more

August 9, 2017 in the Netherlands

To day we went to Schonbrunn Palace. It is the most famous and beautiful palace in Vienna. This is the summer palace of the Habsburgs who ruled much of Europe for over 600 years. The most influential ruler to have lived here was the famous Maria Theresa. Amazing place but not as good as Versailles. Lovely carriages. Beautiful gardens and statues.

Royal carriages were coloured green. No one else could use this colour green. It was for royalty only. And the importance of the royalty was known by the colour of the wheels. Black wheels indicated passengers were not that high up the royal chain. Gold wheels meant the king or queen were in the carriage.

    When it's Spring again.....

May 27, 2017 in the Netherlands

It's Saturday, we must be in Amsterdam. Left Paris on the 10.30 very fast train. We had 1st class tickets, so it was like being on a plane, with a steward coming down the aisle with a trolley. First there was morning tea and later lunch - all at 300 kph. Arrived at Amsterdam central and a 10 minute walk saw us at the boat. WOW!!!... photos later in the trip. Because 6 of us took the train, we were a lot earlier arriving than the others so we walked back towards town and took a canal cruise. You need to be very careful as a pedestrian in Amsterdam - there are cyclists everywhere going very fast. Where we have car parks, they have massive bike parks. Dinner is in the restaurant but there is also a small one called the chef's table which only holds 28, where there is one menu for the first week and then a different one for the second week. All passengers can go once each week but must book. The head waiter came over and told us about it and asked if we would like to go tonight. Another wow! 7 courses with matching red and white wines. Tomorrow morning Cologne and after lunch - sailing. J&JRead more
