Karekare Waterfall and Karekare Beach

After a relaxed morning, I went to Karekare to see the waterfall and the beach there.
The road there was an experience 😳 Luckily I never met someone 🙈
Already by driving down the road to the waterfall I was thinking about how the hell I should come up here again 🙈😂

At least the waterfall was soo much worth it! It's like a little paradise there. As I was alone there I was standing there for a while and just enjoying it 😊

After that, I went to the beach, which is just a 15 min walk away from the waterfall.

The beach is really big and not as crowded as Piha beach, I saw 6 other people while I was there 😉
It's called one of the most dangerous beaches in New Zealand and they recommend only to swim there when Lifeguards are at the beach.

Ahuahu Falls

In the middle of a crater, this waterfall is fed entirely by rainfall and has never run dry even when there have been months and months without rain thanks to the volcanic rock soaking up the water and keeping the falls supplied.
Wayne also taught us about the Kawakawa plant which has wonderful medicinal properties and treats everything from cuts and scrapes to toothaches and indigestion. It also repels mosquitoes. It's peppery taste (I can attest) also makes it a great addition to foods. Unfortunately, it's qualities are much too strong for the caterpillars that like munching on it and they spend their short lives doped up and eventually die of an overdose.Read more

Karekare Falls

Der nächste Ort nach Piha ist Karekare. Auch ein Strandörtchen, aber mit gigantischem Wasserfall. Habe also den Tag mit einer schönen Wanderung begonnen. Ist ein ziemlich cooles Gefühl, wenn man vor um 9 schon auf einen Berg gewandert ist 😜😊
Die Wanderung beginnt in der Nähe des Wasserfalls und geht dann den Berg rauf, von dem man eine super Aussicht auf Wald, Strand und Meer hat. Musste heute auch wieder durch den Fluss laufen, war aber dieses Mal vorsichtiger 😂Read more

Staying at Sam's

Wir fahren von Highden nach Auckland. Zu fünft im Auto - Sam fährt, vorne ist Brent, hinten machen wir es uns gemütlich mit KK und Scott. Wunderbare Menschen und eine entspannte Fahrt. Die acht Stunden fliegen vorbei. Ich schlafe auch viel und verarbeite die letzte Woche.
Sam wohnt 40 Minuten außerhalb von Auckland, im Paradies. Komplette Ruhe und so entspannt.Read more

Nach dem Strand geht's zu Wasserfällen - wahnsinnig schön. Und ich merke so sehr, dass ich richtig angekommen bin. In der ersten Woche hier habe ich mich noch wie ein Tourist gefühlt. Habe den Regenwald besucht und von außen angeschaut - aha, Baum, Baum, Farn, Wasserfall, schön. Jetzt tauche ich ein. Habe so eine innere Ruhe, dass ich die Natur vollkommen aufnehmen kann. Mir ging es nie besser.Read more
