Millers Flat

On Thursday morning we started our house sit for Elina and Adam, at Alan Reid Road, near Arrowtown. We stayed 3 nights and looked after one dog and three horses. We stayed in the motorhome but also used their tiny home for cooking and showers.

The first day started badly, as Jack the horse had an existing leg wound, and the bandage had slipped exposing his wound, which was quite nasty. I had to get the vet out, and he sedated Jack, so I had to stay with him for two hours while he recovered.

The horses were difficult to manage as they were fed 3 times a day, each with different combinations of ingredients. The fences were made of bits of tape all tied together, and Luna escaped twice and was difficult to catch. They also had different covers for different temperatures, and two of them were a pain to take covers on and off.

Luckily, Ruska the dog was lovely. She took a couple of days to warm up to us, but was very good natured and smart.

We were located almost next door to the flight park, so were able to watch lots of paragliders flying over including several tandems. Unfortunately the conditions weren't right for Pete to go for a decent fly.Read more
