    August 13, 2019 in Norway ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

    Stavanger, Norway

    July 15, 2019 in Norway ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Yesterday was the first sea day and the first formal night. We had a lazy day of sleeping in and then playing pachessei in the cabin. I found and picked up the board game to bring with me knowing it was a game all three of us knew how to play. Ruby got to see Jackson’s competitive side for the first time and it had her laughing so much. They are getting along great! Ruby says she approves of him, saying he’s cool and funny.
The formal night was fun. We put our dresses on and headed to see Tom Binns do his psychic comedian act. He’s the star and Co-writer of BBC 1 Friday Night Comedy Show, Hospital People and he was pretty good. After that we headed to see the Headliners Theatre Company preform Electric Avenue. The Headliners are the singers and dancers that preform on the ship and this show was “retro memories from the decade of excess that was the 1980’s”. By the time that was done we were ready to put some comfy clothes on so we just headed back to the cabin for the night.
Today we were docked in Stavanger. Ruby and I were tired but still got up in the morning to grab some breakfast on the ship and then head out into port. Jackson is IPM (In Port Manning) today which means he couldn’t get off with us. Stavanger was mostly just a morning of shops so Ruby could look for souvenirs for people. We then headed to Burger King to pick up burgers to bring back to the ship to eat with Jackson for lunch. So he would have something to eat other then food from the crew mess. So we are currently just relaxing in our cabin waiting for Jackson to finish work. We know we are going to see the sail away party and some more shows tonight but besides that we have no idea what we might get up to for the rest of the day.

    Stavanger, Norway

    August 6, 2018 in Norway ⋅ 🌧 15 °C

Everyone was looking forward to a very much needed day of rest today until we found out we had crew rounds and drills this morning. It finished around 11:30 and then I think most people just went to bed. I got the nice surprise of being able to go out with Jackson for at least an hour after drills. So we are currently camped out at a Starbucks near the ship. Not the most exciting thing but we both needed wifi and didn’t have much time. We are both enjoying our hot chocolates and ham and cheese croissants though.Read more

    Fjord Cruise

    May 21, 2016 in Norway ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

We woke up fairly early today to get to the docks in Bergen. Luckily, the rain had stopped and it was looking like the weather would be pretty good. The ship we're on is the MS Stavangerfjord. Apparently it can be used for either transport to Denmark or as a cruise, but the occasional port won't bother us. It should be fairly gloomy and rainy throughout, but that sort of adds to the whole experience.

We are fortunate to have a starboard side room with a big window, just close enough to hear the engines hum. A little exploring and a nap down, we went to the dinner buffet. It was madness, with all sorts of smoked salmon, crayfish, crab, shrimp, lamb, steak, of course like 17 types of cheese... and probably a few vegetables somewhere we didn't get to. Clearly, we stuffed ourselves as only Americans can.

Full, satisfied, and a little bit uncomfortable, we walked around the deck until we were too cold. We caught a glimpse of what we THINK is the oldest stone church in Norway, but translating a captain over a loudspeaker who undoubtedly had a lip full of snus isn't the easiest, so it could've been anything. It looked cool though, and in the end, that's all that counts. We're also pretty sure he said waves would be up to 3 meters high tonight, so let's hope for the best...

Now to raid this duty free shop for a kilo of Toblerone!

    The city of oil (Stavanger)

    September 2, 2018 in Norway ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

I was expecting to meet the personification of an industrial swamp, with clubs and bars for oil workers’ amusement. But no. Stavanger has its own rich history way before oil changed the nation and the city forever (50% of the canned sardines were produced here! 🤣🤣).

The place is a stunning architectural beauty, by day and by night. I am ecstatic.

The oil museum shocks me thoroughly.. food for thoughts.

    Stavanger, Norway

    September 10, 2018 in Norway ⋅ 🌧 14 °C

My final trip to Norway. We've been unable to do our traditional Standing Orders in Southampton much anymore. So Starbucks in Stavanger for wifi has kind of become the new tradition. We get hot chocolates, croissants and get any updates done on our phones and my laptop that we need to. That is where I currently sit with Jackson across from me. He's setting up his new phone that we won in the raffle on the ship.Read more

    Stavanger, Norway

    August 27, 2018 in Norway ⋅ 🌧 14 °C

Another rainy Stavanger Starbucks trip with Jackson. We both needed wifi so even though it's pouring rain we made our way to Starbucks where we now sit with hot chocolates and croissant for breakfast. Today I start work at 3pm and Jackson starts work at 4pm. It will be a busy night of restaurant shoots for me.Read more
