      Oslo, Kanufahre und Fredrikstadt

Am nögste morge simmer namal go dusche, händ euses Auto zeme packt und sind zum Vansiø gfahre, en See, womer es Kanu scho vorgmietet hännd. Womer det acho sind isch niemmer ume gsi, mer hend eus denn gemäss Bestätigungsmail selber mit Equipment versorgt, s Boot gschnappt, wo parat gstande isch, und sind los gfahre. Mer händ zwüschedure ufeme schöne Ptätzli an Land Zmittag gässe, sind echli wiiter gfahre, händ ufeme herzige Inseli öppe 1-2 Stund chillt und eus denn langsam wieder mal uf de Rückwäg gmacht. Debi hämmer endlich mal badet (de see isch nur bitzli chelter gsi als de Zürisee)! De alain het nochli gfischt und öppe am 6i simmer zrugg gsi.       Am morge, nach dem de Alain no en huufe Johannisbeere gerntet het, hemmer eus den uf de Weg zum südlichste punkt vo eusere Reis gmacht. Es stettli namens Fedrikstadt. Det hemmer fein zmittag gesse und sind den ide Altstatt und im Fischerdörfli go umeguene und en Epplecak esse. Den simmer go poschte für de vegi bolognese znacht wommer uf eusem schöne camping platz am meer den zuebereitet hend.       Day 3

      All hands on deck

      Today was our first full day spent on board the Statsraad Lehmkuhl. We began the day with breakfast at 7:30. By mid morning we had fully mustered on deck, in rows by our hammock numbers. This was followed by getting our passports stamped by the Norwegian police.
      We were all briefed on the safety protocols and how to put on survival gear.

      We also learned about going aloft. In the afternoon we were introduced to the 4 physical watch positions.
      Starting with the lookout based on the fo'c'sle deck, where everything capable of harming the ship must be declared using a bell system.
      Next up was helm watch. This was followed by Buoy watch, which involves keeping a lookout at the stern for persons who may have fallen overboard.

      Finally we were guided through, the fire watch. This involves walking the entire ship, checking that everything is ship shape. This must be done every half hour. The second job of fire watch is to mark the passing of time using a serious of single and double bell sounds.      Read more

      Fredrikstad

      We rocked up here after a short but scenic bus ride from Oslo Airport. We encounted a few tunnels on the way.

      The majority of sail trainees left the bus on the west side of the river before we were dropped outside the old town. We only had a short walk before we reached the quayside and set foot on the majestic Statsraad Lehmkuhl! We were all very tired. Once we'd been checked in we were given hammock numbers and led down below deck into the trainee living quarters. I was assigned hammock 62. I am part of Red watch. The ship is run by trainees working in 3 shifts red, white and blue. Red watch work from 12pm to 4pm and midnight to 4am.

      Day 10

      Von Halden nach Gressvik

      Am Morgen bin ich mit dem Hund noch einmal über die Festung gegangen. Danach sind wir losgefahren und haben in Solberg und in Begby Felsritzungen angeschaut. Von da ging es weiter nach Fredrikstad, hier haben wir die Festung Kongsten und die Altstadt mit der Kirche und dem historischen Marktplatz besichtigt. Zum Schluß sind wir nach Gressvik an einen Badeplatz in den Schären zum Übernachten gefahren. Zwischendurch haben wir uns noch die Geschäfte Kiwi und Rema 1000 angesehen.Read more

      Eine deutsches Fort aus dem 2. Weltkrieg hat den perfekten "Spielplatz" für Carsten geboten. Viele Schützengräben, alte Kanonenstellungen und Bunker haben zum Erkunden eingeladen. 😁

      Day 14

      Rauland to Fredrikstad

      A quick dash today just 270km (170miles) to Fredrikstad to stay with Merete and her family. We’re there now and I need to write this diary now before I get too drunk. It’s lovely here, they have fed us a BBQ and now we’re relaxing inside with beer, wine and crisps. When we stopped at Drammen, I bought some new boots which was fantastic! They were just £200 rather than £270. We didn’t do a lot of beautiful roads mainly motorways but it was good to warm up and we had our first ice cream! We’ll dash down through Sweden tomorrow and start heading south.

      Rest Day: Fredrikstad

      What a fantastic day!!?? I think we must have ridden 400km or 250miles around the local area and up to Lillestrom but we are staying with Marete and her family again so it was for fun as a ride out with them.

      Merete is a complete badass and after only one year of riding has a new Ducati 950 Supersport. She got into riding because her son, Storm, wanted to learn and she thought she would too. She’s a very good rider for someone who hasn’t been riding for so long. Her son, however, is in another league and should definitely do more track riding. He is one of the fastest riders I have ever followed, which is crazy considering he is just 17 and still has to wear a learner vest when he’s riding his bigger 600cc Yamaha. He also needs a responsible adult with over 5years on their license to ride behind him (if you can keep up). This was down to me for part of the day! If he got caught speeding, then I would get the ticket. I learnt this just before he wheelied out of the petrol station 😅🫣 following him was quite a lesson and a lot of fun! Later Marete then let me ride her new Ducati with only 4,500 miles on it 😍🤩 amazing but not my cup of tea.

      We have just finished the day with a BBQ and some wine before bed. I’m exhausted and very happy!!

      Gamlebyen (Frederikstad)

      Heute morgen ging es weiter nach Fredrikstad. Dort hatten wir den Campingplatz schon vorgebucht. Bei den meisten anderen Plätzen geht das nicht. Meist nehmen sie keine Reservierung an. Der Platz liegt zu Fuß 10 Minuten von Gamlebyen, der Altstadt von Fredrikstad, entfernt. Dahin haben wir auch gleich noch einen Spaziergang gemacht. Da war heute ein kleiner Mittelaltermarkt, wo Mami sich ein schönes Tuch gekauft hat. Wir haben uns danach mal wieder ein Softeis gegönnt und uns damit an den Fluss gesetzt. Auf dem Rückweg sind wir an alten Kanonen vorbei gekommen, welche jetzt noch als Dekoration und Erinnerung auf einem alten Wall stehen.
      Zurück auf dem Campingplatz hat Papi sich ein bisschen im Auto und Körbi und Mama ein bisschen draußen ausgeruht. Auf dem Programm standen dann noch Wasser holen, bisschen aufräumen und Körperpflege. Plötzlich hat es gewittert, so dass wir es uns im Wohnmobil gemütlich gemacht haben und den Tag so ausklingen lassen.      Read more

      Rumhängen, Einkaufen & Planen

      Heute war mal wieder ein Ausruhtag. Soweit Körbi uns gelassen hat, haben wir ausgeschlafen 😉 und dann gemütlich gefrühstückt. Das Wetter war schlecht gemeldet, also haben wir es uns im Wohnmobil bequem gemacht. Mittags war es soweit trocken, also haben wir dann die Zeit genutzt, um einen Spaziergang zu unserem Lieblings-Supermarkt zu machen, um für ein kleines Mittagessen und Køttbullar zum Abendessen einzukaufen. Außerdem haben wir uns auf dem Weg mal einen norwegischen Baumarkt angeguckt; ziemlich wenig Auswahl 🤔 Vielleicht auch nicht vergleichbar, mit dem was wir so zuhause kennen. Eher ein 1-Euro-Baumarkt gewesen.
      Zurück auf dem Platz haben wir uns noch um das Wasser und Abwasser gekümmert und die restliche Reiseroute besprochen. Schon bisschen komisch, dass wir nächste Woche schon wieder daheim sein müssen...

      Campingplatz-Fazit (Frederikstad Motel&Camping):
      Alles in allem gut; WLAN läuft (aber langsam); Sanitäranlagen geräumig und OK (bei den Damen nicht so sauber); Stellplätze sehr groß und durch Hecken abgeteilt; Zentrum, Supermarkt und Gamlebyen gut zu Fuß zu erreichen. Zum Campingplatz gehört ein Golfplatz und eine Minigolfanlage, sowie ein Tennisplatz.      Read more
