    Stavanger, Norwegen

    July 21, 2018 in Norway ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Da war auch Flo endlich begeistert! 🤣

    Pulpit Rock..... where are you?

    July 11, 2017 in Norway ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

    Where - Stavanger, Norway
Shore excursion - Lysefjord: Pulpit Rock Cruise
Weather - Wet and cool, 14°C
    Steps - 11500 or 7.4km

We docked in our first Norwegian port of Stavanger to a bit of a grey morning with a few light showers. The town itself is quite pretty and we wandered around it for an hour or so until the showers became heavier. We had booked a tour to view Pulpit Rock from the fjord but unfortunately by the time we got there the rock was covered in cloud and mist and we really couldn't see a thing. I guess we should be grateful we did not choose to hike up to the rock because that would have been just miserable , hiking for 2 hours up just to see a square flat rock but no view to the fjord below. On a clear day, this would have been spectacular. Oh well, you cannot control the weather and we had some nice waffles and coffee so that was ok.

Saw a show this evening - an Italian born Australian who works in Las Vegas (typical casino style entertainment I imagine but he certainly could play the electric guitar). He wasn't too bad if you like that sort of thing. It's 10.30pm and the sun has only just set and still light. Tomorrow we dock at Eidfjord and the weather is predicted to be better than today thank goodness.

    Stavanger, Norway

    September 11, 2017 in Norway ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Had an interesting formal night last night. A woman threw up (multiple times) right beside my portrait so I had to improvise a bit with the way I was shooting. Then the captain's speech was late which pushed all our breaks back. Meaning my dinner was potatoes and chocolate. Yummy.

The night ended on a good note however. I was just getting into bed when there was a knock on the door. I opened it to find James (one the photographers) with a bottle of alcohol-free champagne he had won in the crew bar. Since my cabin mate Naz and I don't drink he gave it to us. So that's sitting in the fridge waiting for a party night in the crew bar.

Today I had to get up early for gangway. I was with one of the new to seas again. So I spent most of the gangway helping him with how he was calling the passengers in. As soon as that was done however I quickly got back on the ship and got changed to head to Starbucks for some food and wifi. That is where I now sit. Updating my phone and downloading some new music. Next we are going to wander around a bit, getting some photos before heading back to the ship to relax before starting work.

    Southampton, Southampton

    June 2, 2017 in Norway ⋅ 🌧 12 °C

In the afternoon I was on embarkation. Which did mean however that I got the evening off. I finished work at 6pm and basically fall asleep as soon as I got back to the cabin. The entire team is exhausted after the party cruise. I didn't get up until it was time for the team dinner we had decided to have in Beach House on the ship to welcome our new team member Cosmin and celebrate the party cruise being over. When we got there our manager Nick also told us that he was talking to HORM (hotel operations general manager) and as a thank you for working so hard over the party cruise and earning way over the cruises target she was covering the cover charge for all our dinners. Which meant we only had to pay for any drinks. A perfect way to end the party cruise.Read more

Stavanger and the North Sea Oil Industry

    May 3, 2017 in Norway ⋅ ⛅ 59 °F

We arrived in Stavanger, had breakfast and started the walking tour of the town and the oil museum. Our guide was named Ourania Papadimitriou, and she was fantastic. Her husband works in the oil industry and must stay on a ship for two weeks at a time. Glenda saw an Elizabeth Arden store at the beginning of our walk. When we finished we went trying to find it again. Eventually we succeeded. I went on to photograph the cathedral. Then we realized that to get the product she wanted requires a doctor’s prescription. We came back to the ship, had lunch, and took some photographs. I took a short nap before a lecture given by Dr. McCann on the Hanseatic league. We ate at Manfredi restaurant. Our waiter Henry convinced me to get a steak I didn't want, and I ate entirely too much. We went to the atrium to hear the music of Olga, and entered into conversation with Tom and Judy from Bakersfield California.Read more

    Stavanger, Norway

    April 24, 2017 in Norway ⋅ ⛅ 4 °C

I had to get up early this morning to take gangway photos for 2 hours. After that I decided not to go out again. After freezing for 2 hours when you have a bad cold you don't really want to leave your nice warm bed. Especially when you have a hard drive full of movies.
