    To South Africa

    October 29 in Namibia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

We drove for our final border crossing to South Africa. Can’t believe we are already here! Before the border we stopped at the grocery store in a small town where grapes were being grown. Right next to the grapes were essentially shacks that people lived in, made out of straw reeds. It was quite a sight, with the grapes and brown mountains in the background. Border crossing was uneventful. We got to our campsite and then went canoeing on the Orange River.Read more

    Sandboarding and city walk

    October 25 in Namibia ⋅ 🌙 17 °C

After breakfast we went sand boarding. It was a bit scary going down so steep and fast but it was quite fun. I kept spinning out because I couldn’t hold up the board and slowed down. But it was fun. The other group sandboarded standing up which looked really fun but scary. After lunch we then walked into town. It’s a weird town, with the German influence. We went to a few souvenir shops, got some Ice cream and went to the jetty. The ocean and beach was very beautiful. There was a boat that they turned into a fancy restaurant that we got to look around. Then we stopped for shopping at the grocery store and the back to the hostel. We watched our same boarding video and picture show which was really embarrassing. Then we went out to pizza at a tiny restaurant and then went to a German bar for drinks after.Read more

    Swakopmund

    October 24 in Namibia ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

We left campsite and drove to Swakopmund. It was a very bumpy ride. The town is very odd. I opted to upgrade to my own room. After lunch I took a tour of the Skeleton coast-it was a great tour! We saw a shipwreck, stopped for coffee, went to seal colony, saw the dramatic landscape, and learned about the economy, weather system and also drove through their township, DRC-democratic resettlement community. The tour guide was from NoCal and had lived in Swakopmund for a long time. It was a very interesting tour.
For dinner we made our own wraps in the hostel kitchen.

    Twyfelfontein rock carvings

    October 23 in Namibia ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

This morning we went for a short hike to Twyfelfontein where there are carvings into the rocks. It was neat to see the carvings but the landscape was so beautiful. Red rocks. Livingstone did also love there back in 1849. Carvings were four discovered in 1921.

    Okavango Delta

    October 17 in Botswana ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

This morning we drove on a bumpy road to the Okavango Delta. We took canoes through the delta and it was very peaceful and relaxing. The water was pretty still and muddy. There were lots of flowers and lily pads and thick reeds. Once we got to our campsite there was a elephant that had charged some of the group. A little frightening but if went away. We just enjoyed the campsite and saw lots of elephants walking thorough and getting water. Several elephants were very close to the campsite. It was incredibly hot.l and hard to cool down. In the afternoon we went for a walk and saw zebras, cows, a hippo tooth and skeleton, and wild dogs from far away. It was a nice walk. We had dinner and they performed some music and dance for us and we played a fun game called Chief. Then it was two people’s birthday so we celebrated with cake and stargazed.Read more

    To Maun

    October 16 in Namibia ⋅ ☀️ 37 °C

Today we went to Sedia campsite in Maun. It wasn’t very nice as there was no shade, no actual campsite (we were basically in the road) and must have been 35+ degrees. Luckily they had a pool to relax and refresh. I decided to not do the delta flight as a bit pricey and also the dry season. We pretty much relaxed at the pool and ate dinner at the camp restaurant.Read more

    Chobe game drive

    October 15 in Namibia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

This morning we did an early morning game drive in Chobe NP. Unfortunately we didn’t see a lot of animals so that was a letdown. We did get to drove along the Chobe River which was really pretty. We did see a few dead elephants that lions were eating so that was interesting. The stench was horrendous. We learned that the rangers burn dead animals (we did see a burnt elephant) so as to not disease other animals. The park was very dry but pretty. We also saw a giraffe that had a fungal skin infection. Then we drove to our next campsite which was a long drive. Luckily this tour I get my own seat as there is only 17 of us which is much appreciated. I really liked our campsite, Planet Baobob, it was sandy but just really pretty. It had a-pool but didn’t get a chance to swim as it was late and I was on cooking duty. For dinner we had really yummy squash.Read more
