    chavin de huantar

    July 1, 2016 in Peru

    September 17, 2017 in Peru

Feeling better today we had a quick light breakfast and then we were in our way to the temples of Chavin de Huantar. The journey to Chavin was really long and boring, over 3 hours of no much to see in a winding road that took us up to 4,100 masl, really high.

Initially we run on the highway next to Santa River but after an hour, we started the steady climb toward the pass. Halfway on this road we stopped in a lagoon to get some snacks and use the "toilets". From there it was another hour over a painful road until we got to Chavin.

The ruins were relatively small when compared to other ruins in Cusco. We spent over an hour here in the middle of a rain but had time to get some photos. I personally avoid visiting the obelix, placed in the middle of a labyrinth. The corridors were just too narrow and dark for me. At the end we observed some heads made of stone and that were inserted on a wall.

The group stopped for lunch however altitude was already affecting us so we had just a cup of Coca leave tea before starting the painful way back to Huaraz.

    Chavín de Huantar

    November 30, 2014 in Peru
