Krakow's old town was amazing tonight. Everyone was out enjoying the 30 degree day and balmy evening.
Eating out, listening to bands and watching street performers. It blew us away.
We even took a horse carriage ride to see more, which we were glad we did as we won't have time tomorrow to look aroundRead more
Medieval city ruins housed in a strange underground archeological museum with relics, intricate models, and even holograms... not to mention the skeletons in the freaking floor!
Prelozili sme to este gruzinskym street foodom v Gruzińskej Chatke (https://goo.gl/maps/aexhMvWx53G2) - gruzinsky Lula Kebab s hovadzim a bravcovym maskom a este sladkou verziou plnenou malinami a cokoladou). Sladka verzia bola famozna. Dalsia nasa cesta viedla do lokalnej cajovne Czajownia (http://czajowniakrakow.pl/), kde sme si v prijemnom prostredi pochutili na vybornych cajoch (ja Wuyi Shan Da Hong Pao, Majka Hojicha Kyoto). Cestou na izbu este kupu dalsieho lokalneho vinka, tentokrat biele mlade vinko Swieto-Marcinskie z vinice Wieliczka.Read more
Time for a bit of dinner before an early night. Flight to Berlin is at 08:50 tomorrow so need to be up early.
Caught the bus from Olomouc to Krakow today getting in reasonably early which was nice we did a bit of a walk around. It is such a pretty place!!
Then off to a pub crawl which was a big night but a fun one!
Today was spent chilling out and not doing much. We went to the Jewish Quarter which is a bit run down and still has a large Jewish population which was interesting to see
Then we had ice cream in the main square and watched all of the buskers. So many talented people out there!Read more
Back in the swing of walking again and put on 10km today! I dropped if my bags in luggage storage at the hostel as I had to change rooms and didn't want to be in a dorm of 10. I walked to Schindler's Enamel factory and didn't have to wait long in the queue. Schindler saved over 1000 Jewish and Polish by employing them in the factory to make enamel pots and pans for export to other countries. He had a smart account who skimmed money from the sales (fixed the books) so he could get Jews out of Kraków. After the factory I walked through Jewish market Kazmierrz and had a traditional polish meal called Bigos, sauerkraut stew with beef. I made my way to the new hostel which is smack dab in the middle of the old town with a great view. The condition of the hostel is dub par to what I had and paid last night. Location, location I guess. I hit the market again after for perogies made with feta, spinach, garlic and sun dried tomatoes, made by a local woman. Delicious! Wavering on seeing the Salt mines tomorrow aa the cost is $45 and there are so many tour buses going there daily. Just met 6 welsh guys on a stag who snuck into the hostel. Will who is getting married for the second time after 30 years of singledom donned a beautiful one piece his son bought him. The lot of them were hilarious. They are from Cardiff and work on the railway.Read more
Our last day in this lovely place. So hot....went shopping in the mall to cool down! Bought two tops from bargain bin...He! He!. Went and saw part of the old wall surrounding the square. Also went for a romantic horse ride.
We leave tomorrow morning by bus to go to Hungry
When Auschwitz got too full the prisoners were made to build a new camp not too far away where they could be close to places where they were made to work. This camp was called Birkenau. This was built out in farm land and built of wood. Conditions were atrocious. Freezing cold in winter and very hot in summer. All Jews were gased and burnt. Fit prisoners were kept for work. Up to 90000 people in this camp. Women were used for experiments. Train loads of prisoners were sent there. Doctors picked healthy males for work. Old people, sick people, kids and pregnant women were exterminated. So bloody Cruel!Read more
