    • Irish on the move

      September 17, 2019 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Went all last year's Camino and only met one other Irish person and her and I walked together into SdC. Today seemed like every second person was Irish . I walked with a couple from Strangford for a while and shared a coffee with a couple from Cobh. No Irish have turned up here so maybe just listen for the rowdiest bar tonight . I'm sharing a 4 bunk room with a banker from Switzerland , an American woman of Japanese extract and a young woman who is either from the Balkans or Russia oh and a Australian who isn't in my room but seems to want to be in my gang lol! Funny how quickly one can used to sharing space with strangers especially when the craic is good . Didn't take many photos today with weather wasn't much scenic stuff but I'll put a few up laterRead more

      Day 5 Apulia to Antas

      September 25 in Portugal ⋅ ☁️ 64 °F

Today was a very rainy day. I walked through the town and through neighborhoods and away from the coast. I really enjoyed the mile long forested area. There were handmade Camino artwork nailed to trees. One tree had a sign and a stack of necklaces for sale. It was by donation only. I bought one. Halfway through my day I started walking with a man from Slovakia. We had coffee in a town to get out of the rain and then we walked for about two hours together. I don’t even know his name. He was 25 and shared a lot of his life with me and his struggle with his relationship with his mom. It’s neat how quickly people open up to you on the Camino Today was about 10 miles and it was pouring down rain so having somebody to walk and talk with was really nice because it made the time go by faster. I said goodbye to him when I got to my hostel and he went a little further I am concentrating on trying to dry all my clothes. It’s super wet here and there are no dryers. The room I’m staying in has a heater so I am trying to get everything clean and dry. One of the reasons I chose this hostel because it has a pool. It’s only like 55° here so it’s too cold to go swimming so I just put my feet in the water which felt really good.Read more

      Agucadoura to Fao

      September 24, 2022 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

After a coffee break it was back to the beach and the boardwalk. Eventually we were in a treed path, which was nice. There were even eucalyptus trees. Also, I walked past some gardens. The soil looks very sandy.

I visited a church, and spoke with some Canadians who were sitting near the church. They were from Airdrie.

There was a small dog that followed me, and some other pilgrims, for more than 5 km. She was cute, but I wouldn’t know what to do with a Portuguese puppy.

Tonight I have reserved a private room. I’m looking forward to that.

      Radrundfahrt Apúlia - Barcelos-Esposende

      April 1, 2022 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

Read more
