53.Kurzstopp: Tropfsteinhöhlen

Übernachtet haben wir nach dem Töpfern auf einer vom Töpfermeister empfohlenen Parzelle „im the middle of nowhere“. Neben dem Esel Jaga. Das erste Mal die tolle Geschenkte Feuerschale benutzt. (Weil ja überall Feuer verboten ist). Holz zu finden war an diesem Ort nicht das einfachste 😆😇🤪. Aber wir haben Stöckliweise auf-&nachgelegt. 😂😂😂

Weiter geht die Inlandtour bei schlechtem Wetter am nächsten Morgen😆.

Es gibt viele tolle Sachen zu sehen.
Den Morgen starten wir mit Tropfsteinhöhlen -die lieb ich ja immer besonders. Lennox findet es furchtbar langweilig, das eine Stalagtite 100Jahre braucht um 1cm zu wachsen. Die Anderen können der Sache mehr Begeisterung abgewinnen.

Danach Mittagessen „heisser Stein“ -yammy! Zum ersten Mal mal wieder Fleisch gegessen. Wir reisen mit soviel Veganern, dass man viel bewusster kein Fleisch isst oder wenn dann -es richtig geniesst. Ich hatte nun extremen Heisshunger auf Fleisch 😆☺️😇Read more

Today we arrived in Fatima. I will admit, I knew very little about this town before arriving. Upon our arrival we visited the Sanctuary which is home to 2 Basilicas and 1 incredible story.

The story of the Our Lady of Fátima miracle begins on May 13, 1917. Three peasant children, Francisco, Jacinta, and Lucia were tending to their family’s sheep. The children under 10 years old were blessed with the presence of the Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus. In Portugal, she is also known as Fátima. The children saw this beautiful woman, dressed in white and standing above a bush. The Virgin Mary told the children that world peace would occur if they spread the godly message of prayer.

She visited the young children on the 13th for the next six months. She revealed to the children three secrets. The children were told to make sacrifices to save sinners. They were tight cords around their wrists and did not drink water on hot days. Lucia told the villagers that Mary asked them to say the Rosary every day in order to keep world peace.

News of the apparitions spread throughout the village, some believing the children and some not so much. The Blessed Virgin Mary promised the children that one day a prophecy would occur that would show the village people that they were being truthful. These events culminated in the sixth final apparition “Miracle of the Sun”.

In 2017, Pope Francis went on to officially recognize the Miracle of the Sun and even canonized two of the children, Francisco Marto and Jacinta Marto, over 100 years after their death. This means that Pope Francis made the children officially saints!
Lucia, the cousin of Jacinta and Francisco Marto passed away in 2005 and is being considered for possible beatification. This is the step right before sainthood and essentially signifies that she is blessed in heaven. However, this process could only legally start in 2010, at least five years after her death, and is not yet finished. Pope Francis has visited the shrine of Our Lady of Fatima multiple times.Read more

Fátima ist eigentlich nur eine kleine unscheinbare Stadt in Zentralportugal. Hier befindet sich allerdings auch das Heiligtum von Fátima, eine katholische Wallfahrtsstätte. Die Erscheinungskapelle steht dort, wo die Jungfrau Maria 1917 drei Hirtenkindern erschienen sein soll. Das Heiligtum von Fátima ist der bedeutendste Wallfahrtsort in Portugal, der jährlich von mehreren Millionen Pilgern besucht wird; zu ihm gehört die viertgrößte Kirche der Welt sowie der weltweit größte Kirchenvorplatz.Read more

Our amazing pilgrimage adventure takes us north today to Fatima, where in 1917 the Blessed Virgin
Mary appeared to three unsuspecting peasant children as ‘a lady in white’.
After our arrival, we will take an opportunity for lunch before we commence our first of two
excursions* before returning to the Square to celebrate our unforgettable Mass in the Chapel of
Apparitions presided by Archbishop Anthony Fisher.

Sanctuary Guided Tour
Set off on foot with a guided orientation tour of Fatima Square (the largest in all of Christendom), the
chapel site of the apparitions, the Rosary Basilica with the tombs of the visionaries, the Museum,
Blessed Sacrament Chapel and more.

After Mass, journey south to our WYD Retreat lodgings in Tomar and the neighbouring vicinity. Dating
back to 1160, the Convent of Christ here in Tomar was the original home and stronghold of the
powerful Knights Templar, until later becoming the seat of the new ‘Order of Christ’.Read more

Am 13.5.1917 erschien hier drei Hirtenkindern die Mutter Gottes. Zuerst wurde hier eine kleine Kapelle gebaut wo vor allem Kranke für ihre Heilung beteten.
Heute steht die kleine Kapelle am Rand eines 150.000qm grossen Platzes - wir waren schier erschrocken über die Grösse. Nun steht dort zusätzlich eine neoklassizistische Basilika mit einem 65m hohen Turm. Einige Pilger rutschen auf Knien über den Platz, andere versuchen ihre Kerzen in riesigen Feuerschalen anzuzünden - ohne selbst dabei zu verbrennen. Grotesk.Read more

Beeindruckend! Wesentlich angenehmer als Lourdes , nicht so viele Souvenir Verkäufer, die einen an die Vertreibung aus dem Tempel erinnern 🙁. Nein Fátima ist ruhig und schön. Die alte Basilika strahlt Ruhe und Frieden aus, sehr berührend!Read more

Fatima, Nazare, & Obidos

Today, we took a small group tour to Fatima and the towns of Nazare and Obidos.
Next to Jerusalem, the area of Fatima is the next most holy place for Catholics. It was a huge place with both an older cathedral and a huge modern cathedral. According to the Catholic religion, this area was where Mary appeared to three shepherd children. The story is that the Virgin Mary first appeared on May 13, 1917, to three shepherd children playing under a tree. She shared three secrets with them. The first secret was a vision of hell and the suffering of sinners, the second a prediction of the end of the Great War and the beginning of another, and the third a vision of the death of the Pope and other religious figures. She told them they needed to pray and she would return again on the 13th of each month for the next six months. The religious area of Fatima consists of a group of religious buildings and structures with the main building, Our Lady of the Rosary.
Nazare was a cute little beachy town. My friend Grace learned how to fillet the sardines she had for lunch. She was kind enough to share her sardines with all of us. I think we were glad we didn't order them...so many tiny bones, although I guess it's OK to eat them.
Obidos was a cute little historic town. After we got through the city walls, we enjoyed ginja, This cherry liqueur is a famous local drink and is often served in a chocolate cup. It originated with 17th-century monks from the region, who combined Morello cherries and brandy, and drank it as an aperitif or after dinner drink.Read more

Jayne had heard about a torch lit mass for Fatima that is held at 9.30 it the church which we decided to attend, and although not religious it was quite a moving event with probably 1000 or more people there.
Impressive during the day the church becomes even more so at night.Read more

Heute sind wir, nach einer ruhigen Nacht, gut ausgeschlafen und mit einem super Frühstück im Magen, weiter Richtung Fatima gezogen! Dieser Streckenabschnitt war bis jetzt, aus unserer Sicht, der Schönste von allen hier in Portugal. Wir wanderten fast ausschliesslich in einem parkähnlich Wald mit gut begehbaren Wegen! Unterwegs begegneten wir bereits bekannten Gesichtern, doch kamen auch wieder neue hinzu! In Fatima, welches wirklich sehr eindrücklich ist, fanden wir die Unterkunft für heute ganz zügig. Der Herr am Empfang freute sich, Schweizer begrüssen zu dürfen, denn er war vor Jahren im Welschland zu Hause. Diese Herberge ist "Donativo", was bedeutet, dass sie auf Spendenbasis geführt wird! Der Komfort ist dementsprechend gering, was wir von gestern und vorgestern wirklich nicht behaupten können! Hier schlafen die Frauen von den Männern getrennt! Das könnte, was die Nachtruhe (chrrrr chrrrr) betrifft, von Vorteil sein! Im Frauenschlag stehen 21Betten wovon heute nur 4belegt sind! Bei den Männern sieht es ähnlich aus...Morgen schlafen wir dann wieder komfortabler....und bestimmt tief und fest, denn uns erwartet die 29Km Etappe... Fatima-Tomar

Erst einmal bleiben wir am Atlantik und lassen die Eindrücke an den beiden Orten auf uns wirken. Es sind 20°C, Da macht es Freude, am Strand zu sein.
Und dann fahren wir wieder weiter ins Land nach Fátima. Der Stellplatz liegt direkt hinter der Basilika.Read more
