      Early start today and headed for the airport by 11. Flight was delayed by 45 minutes and when we finally boarded the pilot said that they had had 120 km headwinds coming in. Ugh I wasn't thrilled to hear that. But...the flight was super smooth, guess we had the tailwind, and we were only 10 minutes late. Stepped off the plane to 17 degrees with warm winds. For those of you who are in the throes of the coldest winter, sorry! Caught my bus and paid 2 euros for the trip from the airport to the hostel . Was at the hostel in 15 minutes. I am one 100 metres from the marina. It is so beautiful. Found an Italian restaurant and had my first pizza in months with a glass of red wine and sat outside. The restauranteur though I was crazy sitting on the patio and said it was too cold. Not from where I had just come from. I had three different guys whistle and say hello while I had dinner. I am going to rent a bike and a kayak because it is supposed to be warm for the next while. I can even do my laundry and hang it outside on the upper deck to dry. Can't wait to tour around tomorrow . I have traveled 2100 km so far on my travels and that's almost all the way across Canada.Read more

      Faro around town

      Wow, spectacular! Reminds me a little of Piran but on a grandeur scale. Super clean and lots of authentic culture. Walked around in the beautiful 20 degrees sunshine just in my t-shirt. When I got back from my walk I lay on the rooftop soaking up the rays for a bit. Bought a bottle of 2013 Duoro Valley red wine for 2.49 eu and had to got a restaurant next door to open it up for me because someone walked off with the corkscrew at the hostel. I sat up on the rooftop and drank this fabulous red wine. My third bottle of wine since New Year's Eve. Tomorrow I am heading up on the west coast by train to Lagos and will spend three days there, I can catch a bus to Seville Spain from there and it only takes two hours to get there. Could be a day trip. I will see what happens when I get to Lagos. So far I really like Portugal it has a very easy going feeling to it and is very friendly and safe.Read more

      Faro - Treffen mit Fabis Verwandtschaft

      Heute ist wieder ein besonderer Tag. Wir treffen auf Bekannte :) und freuen uns schon ganz doll. Wir verabreden uns un ein Uhr am Jardim Manuel Bivar und finden uns auch wie abgemacht dort am Hafen. Karin eilt schon zu uns und Hermann ist noxh auf der Parkplatzsuche. Was, wie wir selbst festgestellt haben, kein leichtes Unterfangen ist. Bahnhof und Hafen schließen sich ans Zentrum an, was dieses Gebiet zum wahren Ballungsraum für Verkehr und Autos macht. Schließlich haben alle einen Platz gefunden und wir laufen zusammen zum Restaurant. Heute lassen wir uns mal wieder bekochen. Jaaaaaaaaaaaa...

      Es gibt viel zu erzählen. Eifrig fragen uns die beiden wie wir so unseren Alltag gestalten und wo die Reise weiter hin führt. Karin und Hermann sind wahre Portugalkenner und haben noch einige Tips für uns auf Lager. Für uns prima. Da wir uns auf Portugal so garnicht vorbereitet haben. Das leckere Essen ist sehr reichlich und wir sind bereits schon nach der Vorspeise satt. Aber der Hauptgang lässt nicht lange auf sich Warten und wir bekommen statt der bestellten 4 Speisen, nur 3. Eine wurde wohl vergessen. Kommt uns nur zugute. So schaffen wir wenigstens alles und können uns noch 2 Desserts teilen. Gut genährt machen wir noch einen Spaziergang durch die Stadt zu Kirby und zeigen unser mobiles Wohn-/Schlafgefährt, welches uns ein treuer Begleiter ist.

      Sie sind total begeistert wie wir uns so eingerichtet haben und wie jeder freie Platz genutzt wird. Ja alles muss auch an seinem Ort sein, sonst versinkt man dann auch bald im Chaos. :) hier verabschieden wir nun auch schon die beiden und wir schlendern noch einmal eine Runde durch die Altstadt...die Stadt ist geschmückt mit allerhand schönen Häusern und gepflasterten Fussgängerpassagen. Es gibt sehr viele Lokale in denen man noch draussen sitzen kann. Auf dem Weg zu Kirby laufen wir durch den Stadtgarten in dem es frei laufende Fasane gibt, die unter anderem auch vergnügt auf die Strasse spazieren und auf den Dächern herumhüpfen. Da wir im Wohngebiet keinen gemütlichen Schlafplatz finden fahren wir weiter Richtung Albufeira und versprechen uns auf dem Weg dahin einen Platz am Meer.      Read more

      Faro

      Stamattina andiamo a Faro, la capitale dell'Algarve, a circa 25 km da Tavira.
      Passiamo il centro città e proseguiamo oltre l'aeroporto. La zona è piena di stagni e canali del parco naturale; per arrivare nella zona della Praia do Faro, occorre attraversare un lungo ponte che passa sopra la zona degli stagni ma già qua vediamo parecchia gente che a piedi affronta il sole per raggiungere la Praia .... A noi sembra troppo lontano e così andiamo avanti in auto: ma poi ecco svelato il mistero: chilometri di parcheggi tutti stra-pieni di auto !
      Dopo aver percorso tutta la strada costiera, riusciamo a trovare un posto e ci stendiamo in spiaggia che scopriamo essere arieggiata da un piacevole venticello fresco.
      L'oceano è anche oggi ghiacciato ma un po' meno: 21 gradi.
      Dopo pranzo una bella pennichella all'ombra, qualche mano di briscola ed è già ora di andare in città a fare i turisti.
      Il termometro segna ancora, alle 8 di sera, 38 gradi e la causa è senza dubbio questo vento africano che si intruffola lento per le viuzze d l centro storico. Dentro le mura la cittadina è molto curata e ricca di monumenti, con qualche ristorantino NON a buon mercato. Ceniamo in uno che ha anche la parte interna refrigerata, e non si mangerebbe nemmeno male, se non fosse X il cameriere simpatico come una pigna in culo.
      Per il rientro ci affidiamo al navigatore che, chissà per quale assurdo algoritmo ci dirige verso le strade campagna, prima di arrivare sulla statale percorsa all'andata.      Read more

      Hotel Eva Rooftop

      Time to check out the new roof terrace in Hotel Eva, right in the center of Faro. Nice decoration. Chill out music tends to mess with my nerves though.

      Found a restaurant on the same location, same great views, no music, fair (but not budget) prices. Mental note taken: come and try a meal.Read more
