    Classic cars in the Algarve

    November 1, 2019 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

The 10th anniversary of the Algarve Classic Festival, held at the Portimao race circuit, was the perfect excuse for some of our pals to join us for the weekend.

Based at Turiscampo Campsite near Lagos, we were joined by Chris, Mike, Ronnie and Vince who flew over from the UK, and Nigel who drove across the border from Spain laden with bottles of Spanish wine!

We had 3 days of qualifying and racing to enjoy with over 300 hundred teams and 12 championship classic competitions to watch. The paddock was lined with specialised articulated car transporters cum garages that delivered some unique vehicles to participate including a £40 million Ferrari, historic Jaguars, Lotus' and AC Cobra's to name but a few. The variable weather conditions made for some challenging racing and dramatic moments such as a Lotus flipping over during the Iberian Historic Endurance race on the Saturday. Thankfully, the driver was fine.

As well as fun at the racetrack, we enjoyed evenings together at local restaurants and at the campsite where the guys were staying in one of the bungalows. It had been a while since we had last been together so we had lots of catching up to do over beers, wine and gin & tonics.

Thanks for a great weekend everyone. We were sad to say goodbye but grateful to catch up on sleep afterwards!

    World Super Bikes winter testing

    January 18, 2019 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Just 12 miles from our campsite, in a beautiful, countryside setting between the sea and the hills of Monchique, we paid a visit to the Autodromo International do Algarve.

At the time of our visit, this new and highly impressive facility was hosting pre-season final testing for the World Super Bikes, before they head off to Australia to start the seasons racing.

Unlike Moto GP, which is the biking equivalent of Formula 1, the WSB bikes are all production based and both look and sound spectacular. It was a great opportunity to experience these machines close-up, being ridden by young men who had quite clearly overdosed on the brave pills for breakfast.

Fortunately, Chris did not try to emulate them on the journey back on our bike!

    Happy Donkeys

    July 28, 2019 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

    P.S.: Dem Finger geht’s gut 😉

    Eingeladen von der Gemeinde Alferce

    July 28, 2019 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Unser heutiger Schlafplatz hält viele Überraschungen bereit. Der KOSTENLOSE Stellplatz in dem schönen Örtchen Alferce hat tollen Ausblick, Wasser, Spülbecken, Entsorgungsstation und ein Schwimmbad mit Klos und Dusche. Alles top in Schuss. 👍Read more

    Caldas de Monchique

    November 24, 2019 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Read more

    Foia

    January 26 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

Read more

Mt Foia, Highest Point of the Algarve

    May 18, 2018 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

We drove up to the highest point of the Algarve, almost 3000 ft. We could see the coastline and the Southeast point of Portugal on one side, and mountain farmland on the other. It was a lovely place for a picnic. Eucalyptus trees and cork trees grow in abundance around the area. The eucalyptus smelled wonderful!Read more

    Monchique Locals

    May 18, 2018 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

This is a town where we saw real Portuguese people going about their day: men drinking coffee in the town square, people shopping at the market, a group of 5 women sweeping the church, and a sweet little lady selling Mendronho, sort of a high-test liquor that she distills herself. It is made from arbutus, also called a strawberry tree, but it doesn't taste like a strawberry.Read more

    Aussichtspunkt Berg Foia

    August 9, 2019 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C
