      Stadtführung in Ljubljana

      Free Walking Tours können wir wir auch in Ljubljana empfehlen.
      Die Tour in Ljubljana geht ca. 2h und startet zentral am Platz von Preseren, einem slowenischen Dichter.
      Er verliebte sich der Sage nach in eine 16 jährige namens Julia, obwohl er eine Frau und Kinder hatte. Für ihn war dies kein Hindernis, doch die Mutter von Julia ließ eine Verbindung nicht zu, weshalb sich die beiden nie weiter kennenlernten. Ein paar Häuser weiter aber in Sichtweite zum Platz von Preseren gelegen, ist Julia als Skulptur dargestellt, die in Richtung von Preseren schaut... Sehr romantisch ;)

      Die bekannteste Person in Ljubljana ist jedoch Josef Plesnic, denn fast alle markanten Bauwerke sind auf ihn zurückzuführen.
      Unser Guide Lucy ist lustig und locker. Sie erklärt viel zur Entstehung von Slowenien und den Menschen. Slowenien und gerade Ljubljana, so sagt sie, ist besonders friedlich und naturverbunden, was in der Flagge erkennbar ist (grün weiß gestreift, grün=Natur und weiß=Frieden).
      Wir laufen die Straßen hoch und runter und bekommen gegen Ende einen Beerenlikör.

      Gegen 15 Uhr verabschieden wir uns von Ljubljana mit zwei Štruklji (gefüllt mit Spinat und Cottage Cheese), die wir im Moji štruklji Slovenije ein paar Meter neben der Drachenbrücke gegessen haben.
      Geschmacklich fanden wir sie relativ neutral. Füllung und Teig haben sich leider nicht wirklich voneinander abgegrenzt.

      Boat ride on the Ljubljanica river

      Took a 45 minute tourist boat trip on the river. Gail hit up the hawker on the bridge who was trying to get people to take the boat trip for some weed. He said "it's illegal" Gail said she didn't care. Then, he had a friend. . . After we took the boat trip, a transaction was made.

      Ljubljana Day 3

      Today we had a tour taking us to the Skocjan Caves. We were picked up at 8:30am and what should have taken 1 hour and 30 mins only took 1 hour due to our driver preparing for the F1. It was great :)

      We arrived at the caves and thought our driver was the tour guide but the caves have a dedicated tour that’s starts on the hour. Our driver took us on a quick walk to see the valley we would be venturing into. It was stunning and steep. We didn’t realise how much walking there was going to be. We then went with a tour guide and due to the group being huge we were split into four groups of 30. Unfortunately we don’t have photos of the main caves as they have a strict no photo policy but it was incredible. There was one part of the cave that felt like it could be straight out of the lord of the rings or any fantasy movie. The river Reka runs through the mountain, and there is a pathway that runs along the outside wall that’s lit up. The cave with the river has flooded twice, once in 1950s 100m and 2019 60m all within a day. We were able to see the old tourist route from the 1950s that was destroyed, which was very cool. We also had to walk over a bridge that was 50m high above the water.

      At the end of our tour we had 2 options: walk straight back to our driver or take a longer way and see another cave that we could explore by ourselves. We took the longer way and it was stunning. We were completely surrounded by nature the scenery was beautiful. The incline was steep but we made it back to our driver just in time before it started to pour with rain.

      In Ljubljana everyone carries an umbrella as it can just start pouring with rain for 30mins to an hour. Lucky we bought an umbrella in Trieste.

      We made it back to our apartment and rested and went to go out for lunch but it was hailing for a moment and then heavy downpour. We walked half the way and were too wet to continue so we grabbed some snacks from the supermarket until the rain stopped and we could get a better meal. It finally stopped and we walked to Veganika. The food was delicious and so were the drinks.

      We walked through town to a beer shop that Steve was keen to go to and bought some beer. Tegan wanted to get a chai and we saw a place we thought made them but they only sold the powder so we went to sit along the river at a cafe to enjoy beer and chai. It was a beautiful afternoon wandering around the streets with the aftermath of the rain. We rested and got Chinese takeaway again and walked around the city centre. We could hear a concert and went to see that a school was having a music concert.

      We then got our favourite ice cream, which actually tastes like what it is. Tegan had the blueberry sorbet and chocolate and it was bloody amazing. We sat down and took in Ljubljana for the last time as tomorrow we are off to Salzburg.      Read more

      בספונטניות, החלטתי להגיע לסלובניה. בינתיים אני מאוד מרוצה מהארץ. התחלתי בעיר הבירה. עשיתי סיור מאוד מוצלח וטעמתי בערך 30 מאכלים מקומיים.

      Stalagtastische Höhlen

      Heute morgen geht es für mich und meine Zimmergenossin Rebekka erst Mal zum international food market. Jeden Freitag kann man sich am großen Platz einmal um die Welt futtern und das wollen wir natürlich auch! Bald bemerken wir jedoch, dass wir unserem Magen um 10:00 Uhr morgens noch kein indisches Dal, Falafel oder Raclette zutrauen und entscheiden uns daher für Kaiserschmarrn. Gute Entscheidung, knusprig und leicht karamellisiert mit Waldbeerensauce- super lecker! Gestärkt kann dann das eigentliche Tagesprogramm beginnen: ein Ausflug zur Karsthöhle Postojna. Die gesamte Region zwischen Slowenien und Montenegro ist stark verkarstet (siehe Plitvice) und bietet somit tolle unterirdische Höhlen mit Stalagmiten (von unten nach oben wachsend) und Stalagtiten (von oben nach unten wachsend). Mit einem kleinen Zug, der an eine Achterbahn erinnert, geht es dann mitten in die schon im frühen 19. Jahrhundert entdeckten Karsthöhlen. Immer wieder musste man (vor allem die größeren Leute) den Kopf einziehen, um nicht anzustoßen. Super beeindruckende Formen und riesige Höhlen mit bis zu 40 m Höhe schlängeln sich auf mehreren Kilometern unterirdisch durchs Gestein. Immer wieder hatte ich Angst, dass einer der bedrohlich spitzen Stalagtiten von oben runterkommt, aber wir haben es alle heile wieder ans Tageslicht geschafft, wo wir uns in der Sonne wieder aufwärmen können...Read more

      Ljubljana

      Overnight train - floor experience.

      Our journey from Zurich to Ljubljana was quite unique. It all started with Aminah’s trip from Tenero to Baar, where she missed the first connection. Fortunately every 30 minutes was a train departing from Tenero towards Arth-Goldau, Zug or even until Zürich. Unfortunate was only the crazy delay the train accumulated in the end. This particular train wehere Aminah was traveling with did not stop in Zug due to the delay and so she found herself in Zürich where she called me and asked me desperately if I can pack all her clothes for our two week interRail adventure.

      When I arrived in Zürich we went straight to the EuroNight train and asked if it is possible to enter the train without reservation. We presented our InterRail passes and the conductor let us pass.

      Once inside the train we couldn’t find any free seats. There was only one wagon with seats 💺 dedicated for the Zagreb route. Three wagons were couchettes. The rest of the train constellation was operated by the Austrians aka. the NightJet wagons.

      We could place our bottoms for about two hours into some seats until the wagon was occupied. In the end we were forced to sit on the floor for about 8 hours.

      Funnily enough we weren’t too tired when we arrived in Ljubljana even though we didn’t shut an eye on the entire trip. Nevertheless we walked from the cute little old town to a park where we took a little nap on the almost dry lawn.      Read more

      Zwischenstopp in Ljubljana

      Ich blieb zwei Nächte in Ljubljana, zu wenig für diese schöne Stadt. Die einfache Unterkunft nahe dem Bahnhof und der Innenstadt erfüllte ihren Zweck für kleines Geld. Slowenien, als reichstes Land des alten Jugoslawiens, lag in der Hauptstadt nahe am deutschen Preisniveau.
      Den Tag verbrachte ich an der malerischen und schönen Innenstadtmeile an der Save. Es war recht überlaufen von Touristen und einen Ausflug zur Festung sparte ich mir. Im Café, Restaurant und einer Bar ließ ich es mir gut gehen und beobachtete die vielen Passanten und Reisenden.
      Das Highlight war eine große tanzende Kolonne von Hare Krishna-Leuten. Sie hatten eine Band, Fahnenträger, Tänzer, den Guru und jede Menge Spass im Gepäck. Ich hatte mich vorher schon für das indische Restaurant "Namaste" entschieden und fühlte mich kosmisch bestätigt. Lassi, Chat und Murgh Vindaloo waren köstlich und heizten mir ordentlich ein.       Ljubljana: Sightseeing (I)

      Da ich er erst gegen 14 Uhr in meiner etwas außerhalb des Zentrums liegenden Unterkunft einchecken kann, mach ich noch ein wenig Sightseeing. Der Bushof bzw. Bahnhof ist ja sehr zentral gelegen. Innerhalb 10 min bin ich im Leben!
      Ljubljana scheint ganz hip zu sein. Viele Kneipe, Restaurants, Bars und Snack-Bars. Die Autos sind größtenteils aus der Innenstadt verbannt, dafür muss man aufpassen, dass einem kein Radfahrer oder E-scooter in die Hacken fährt. Die Stadt strotzt nur so von herausgeputzten Sehenswürdigkeiten - bis auf ein paar Ausnahmen 😆🫣
      Ganz in der Nähe der wenigen Ausnahmen gibt es einen türkischen Imbiss mit leckeren Falafel..... Ein Träumchen 😁👍👏.

      Gut gestärkt mache ich mich gegen 13 Uhr auf zu meinem "Guesthouse pri Vodniku", ein ca. 25 min Fußmarsch vom Zentrum. Die Unterkunft sieht von aussen echt nett aus. Das Zimmer unterm Dach ist mini, das Bad scheint neu zu sein. Alles gut 👍.      Read more

      Preseren and Congress Square

      In Ljubljana, our guide took us to the city's two main squares. The pink building is the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation, originally built in the 17th century and given its baroque facade in the 18th century. A monastery dating back to the 13th century is attached; it houses thousands of medieval manuscripts. Also pictured is the Triple Bridge leading to Preseren Square, the University of Ljubljana, and the Academie Philharmonica (which was established in 1701, but was completely rebuilt after 1895 earthquake.)Read more

      All in all, Ljubljana was a neat little town that we would not mind visiting again — but only if Carole gets to spend more time in Lake Bled, too! During our time in Ljubljana, we ate at a busy restaurant to sample the local fare. Unfortunately our time at the restaurant precluded visiting more of the city, including the Ljubljana castle (pictured on the hill); the structure was rebuilt in the 15th century and added onto for the next two centuries. Archaeological surveys, notably, indicate the area was continuously settled since 1200 BC; there is believed to have been some type of fortress there since the 12th century AD. There is so much history in that city, and we had so little time to discover all of it!Read more
