Cape of Good Hope and Boulders Beach Pen

What a beautiful day today in Capetown and beyond. We left early this morning on a tour to see African Penguins and visit the Cape of Good Hope which is part of the Table Mountain National Park. Both sites were fabulous and as much a s anything I enjoyed being on / near the waters edge.... a clear theme for me. After a quick visit to see the penguins, many of whom were minding a nest of eggs, we were off to the Cape of Good Hope. We got to stand at the most south west point in Africa for a photo and then see some seals resting rocks in the Atlantic. The surf and sun were fabulous.
We then went to the lighthouse at the Cape and rode the funicular 585 meters to a path leading up to the Cape Hope lighthouse (1859)

We then had a very scenic ride back to Capetown along Chapman's Peak which is one of the world's most scenic drives. Ck youtube.....

This afternoon after a late lunch we parted w Jensy's dear friend Monica and met up w our tour group for a reception and supper. Met some characters for sure. More sites tomorrow, board ship tomorrow eve and will then have one final day of sites-seeing here in Capetown.Read more

Shark Spotters

I almost didn’t see this Shark Spotter shack because the sign warning about baboon attacks caught my eye first!

Between rogue baboons and the traffic, we were not allowed off the bus here.

The beach below here is too big for them to implement shark nets. For this reason, shark spotters watch the waters from above in order to keep swimmers and surfers safe.

Even so, our guide told us that, “A fair number of shark attacks still occur every year, people getting their arms bitten off, or worse. I would never swim here.”Read more

Quick stop in Muizenberg

On this quick stop in Muizenberg along the Garden Route I visited Pierre. A friend I met in Cape Town. He was actually the yoga teacher at Neighbourgood and we became friends from day one.

Muizenberg is very laid back. Just like a little surfer town should be :)Read more

Heute saßen wir 2 Stunden am Bahnhof, um dann in einem übervollen Zug 25 km an den Strand von Muizenberg zu fahren. Der ist am Wochenende aber scheinbar kostenlos und schont damit die Reisekasse. Leider hat keiner dran gedacht, sich um den Camping Platz zu kümmern. Und da heute Sonntag ist, hat dieser keine geöffnete Rezeption. Egal. Halt wieder Hostel. Dafür aber mit Blick auf's Meer :)Read more
