San Sebastian Day #1

Huge day of travelling today - 2 hour drive to Madrid to drop off the car, then a 6 hour bus up north to Basque Country, San Sebastián. The scenery on the bus ride was different to the south, much more green with forests everywhere.
San Sebastián is most famous for its food & gastronomy culture, we were so excited to come here! First impressions were it reminded us Paris, with all the french style buildings.
📍 Walking tour of the city - this was amazing! Our guide was great and we learnt heaps about the Basque culture and history of the city. Visited a few main sights including De la Brecha Plaza, cathedral, basilica, Constitution plaza which used to be a bull fighting arena, oldest house in the city which survived the burning down of the city in 1813, the port and promenade, gastronomic society buildings, Kontxa beach and Gipuzkoa plaza. We learnt that the french rebuilt the city after it burnt down, hence the buildings! He also took us down the streets with the best pintxos.
📍 After the tour finished, we were straight to Bar Sport to try out their famous pintxos! Both the tour guide and our air bnb host recommended this place. It was so delicious we just kept ordering more 🤣 it was up there with our top 5 places we’ve eaten the whole trip! I also tried the local white wine, it was soooo yum with the slightest bubble. Had to have a second! We met a really nice couple here from Minnesota and enjoyed chatting to them.
📍 Dessert @ La Vina to try the famous Basque cheesecake (another recommendation). It’s like a baked cheesecake that looks sort of burnt on the top but then creamy soft goodness on the inside! Really yum but a few bites was enough for me as it was so rich 🤣
📍 Went for a walk after dinner to the promenade and saw the most beautiful sunset 🌅 followed by doing some much needed washing at the laundromat 🤪Read more
