      Fisterra 2.0 (finis terrae)

      May 30, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Also „finis terrae“.

      The "end of the world"

      October 14, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 61 °F

In ancient times pilgrims would end their pilgrimage here. They believed it to be the end of the world. Today, people come here as a second, more spiritual, ending to their journey. I get it. Nature, especially the sea, shows God's majesty to me. How can we not feel His presence here? I read this verse a few days ago...it really fits.
      Romans 1:20
For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

✒️ FIRMA di ERNESTO a FINISTERRE

      October 4, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

      Camino Day 38: Fisterra

      September 17, 2023 in Spain ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

If I had more time, I would’ve walked to Fisterra (the end of the earth) but instead, I caught a bus in the evening, aiming to have a full day in town before returning the day after. I arrived at my albergue and after collecting the last stamps to complete my pilgrim’s passport, I went to sleep and for the first time in a couple weeks, I didn’t have to set my alarm. 😴

In the morning it was raining so I enjoyed a very long breakfast and then set off towards the Km 0 point near the lighthouse. Since Fisterra is still part of the Camino, it wasn’t a surprise bumping into Standa on my way up. He was part of the last 100km crew.

It was a short 3km walk there and the ocean views along the way and from the lighthouse were stunning! At the top, I found a comfy rock and sketched for a couple hours, reflecting on my journey and everything I had experienced. 🎨

When I finished, I went back into town to sort out dinner before returning to the lighthouse again to catch the sunset! It’d been a while since I’d seen the sun set on the horizon. 🌅

Seeing the sunset here was also quite special. For thousands of years, it was believed that this place was the end of the world and that beyond this point there was nothing more than a place where the sun went out every night among sea monsters. 🤷🏻‍♀️

After the most spectacular sunset and twilight, I walked back in the dark and went straight to sleep. A bus tomorrow morning would take me back to Santiago for one last hurrah before leaving for Madrid. 🚊

      Sonnenuntergang am Ende der Welt

      July 20, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

      Cabo Fisterra

      May 22, 2023 in Spain ⋅ 🌬 16 °C

The end of the world.. that is what Fisterra means. And it's apart from a part of Portugal the most western point of mainland Europe. Some people say that the camino ends here.
For us we enjoyed watching the sun go down with our cups of wine until the clouds took over and the wind made it too cold to stay.
Thank you Spain for giving us so much on this adventure.

      🌊🕯️🌊 CABO FINISTERRE

      October 4, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

      September 24, 2020 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

      Hello mes chers lecteurs 😙

So, this is the end of my journey!

      May 28, 2021 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

So, this is the end of my journey!
      54 days and 950km's
I am sitting here on a rock at FINISTERRE, the place where in the middle ages pilgrims came to burn their clothes and start a new life, and where the wold, as it was defined at the time, ended.
For me, today, my Camino of 2018, of which the last 800kms were walked with Emmanuelle from Marseille, ends here today, and also somehow a new life begins.

Fisterra - Das Ende der Welt

      April 10, 2018 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

      Distanz: 18.73 km

      Insgesamt: 325 km
