Day 6
Isla La Graciosa

Another warm and sunny day although breezy in the safternoon.
On our free day, six of us took an inclusive trip for 35 Euro to the Isla La Graciosa opposite the north coast of Lanzarote. We went by coach, collecting other passengers at the resorts of Playa del Carmen and Teguise, before arriving after 100 minutes at Orzola from where we went by ferry for the 25 minute ride to Caleta de Sabo, the only village on the Isla. We had a great view of the Famara cliifs but couldn't see the well-hidden Mirador del Rio.
The Isla has no paved roads, just tracks of sand blown westwards from the Western Sahara which has also covered much of the lava fields.
Pavel and I walked for about 30 minutes before reaching the Volcan Vermelho, also known as Montana Bermeja, at the western tip of the island. We walked up 175 metres to the plateau at the top for great views over the island, including the sandy beaches and aquamarine sea below. Descending, we went to one of the clean beaches, and I splashed in the shallows, not venturing too far due to the steep shelving. Leaving Pavel there, I walked back to the village for a quick tapas before catching the ferry and coach home.
We passed one of Lanzarote's desalination plants on the coast near the resort of Teguise.
Isla Graciosa was declared to be the 8th Canary Island in 2018. It would be a great place to chill out for a few days on the beach and walking up the five peaks.

Vandaag de laatste dag met Nicky, want morgen gaat hij weer naar Nederland om te werken. Daarom zijn we vandaag er nog even op uit geweest naar een nogal afgelegen strand. Enkel te bereiken via een flinke afdaling of met een bootje wanneer het water rustig is.

Omdat wij vroeg waren, waren er nog geen andere toeristen en hadden we het strand voor onszelf.Read more

Grab im Paradies

Wir hatten uns überlegt, doch noch auf die Insel La Graciosa zu fahren. Da es aber seit zwei Tagen heftig stürmt, haben wir das (zum Glück) noch nicht umgesetzt. Als Ersatz machten wir uns auf den Weg zum Playa del Risco. Vom Aussichtspunkt aus, haben wir ihn vor einigen Tagen entdeckt und wollten unbedingt noch dort hinunter. Er ist nur durch einen steilen, 400hm anfallenden Weg erreichbar, weshalb es trotz der atemberaubenden Landschaft, kaum Leute gibt.
Unten angekommen sahen wir ein paar Häuschen aus Lavasteinen gebaut. Ein Pärchen war gerade dabei die Tür zu streichen. Etwas weiter weg fiel uns ein geschmückter Windschutz aus Lavagesteinen auf, an dem ein Surfbrett als Bank eingebaut war. Dort angekommen stellte sich heraus, das es eine Art Grab war. Ein junger Surfer bzw. Bodyboarder hat hier seine letzte Ruhe gefunden. Wir grübelten noch etwas, ob seine Familie ihn einfach an diesem schönen Ort beerdigen wollte oder ob er wirklich hier gestorben ist. Später recherchierten wir, des es ein sehr bekannter Bodyboarder war, der auch hier gestorben ist. Er ist in der Welle mit dem Kopf auf einen Stein aufgeschlagen. Seine Freunde wollten ihn noch (so haben wir es verstanden) mit dem Surfbrett nach La Graciosa bringen. Ein Ausflugsboot hat sie in der Mitte zwischen La Graciosa und Lanzarote noch aufgegriffen, doch er konnte nicht mehr gerettet werden.

Day 4
Maguez to the Mirador del Rio

The hike began from the village of Maguez close to the NW coast. There were some steep sections, some on lava ash or scree. We saw Mount Corona, a perfectly-shaped Strombolian volcano as described on one of the information boards along the path. There was lots of other evidence of volcanic activity; basalt cliffs, cones and lava fields. The cultivated fields were covered with lava dust to assist irrigation. There were disused terraces on the hillsides. Recent rain had added a green tinge to the volcanos and land.
The path continued along the top of the cliffs of Famara, first to the Montana del Gayo with spectacular views across the Atlantic and surrounding cliffs, and finally reaching the Mirador del Rio after a few kilometres up a tarmac road. The Mirador is a 475 metre high viewpoint located at the edge of the Famara cliffs, built into the lava rock. The building, converted from a gun emplacement designed by local artist Cesar Manique, blends into the landscape, the floor to ceiling glass windows and outdoor walkway provide panoramic views across the El Rio strait towards Isla la Graciosa.
As on the previous day, we had the paths more or less to ourselves. The hike was 14km with a total ascent of 550 metres and descent of 350 metres.
The weather had cooled to the mid-20s. where it stayed for much of the rest of the trip.

Si parte finalmente, le condizioni non sono propriamente favorevoli, il piano è andare verso Madeira e dopo una ventina di miglia virare verso il Marocco... Qualche problemino, risolto comunque velocemente ci fa tardare un po'... Il vento da nord è sui 20nodi con raffiche a 25, ma il vero problema per la nostra bolina sono le onde, da subito sul muso cominciano a montare sempre di più, sui 4-5 metri... La barca poverina non riesce a superare i 5nodi di velocità e dopo la virata probabilmente sarebbe stato anche peggio... L'amara decisione di rientrare.
Dopo pranzo ci riproviamo! Questa volta proviamo ad andare direttamente verso il Marocco per poi costeggiare. Stesse condizioni ma la barca cammina bene anche sbattendo qua e là...il problema questa volta sono invece gli uomini, quattro su sei sono stati male... 50 miglia fatte per il...
Tornati in porto la tristezza della rassegnazione mi assale. Per fortuna l'armatore che ci aspettava a terra non torna in aereo e mi propone di riprovarci venerdì ovviamente sbarcando 2 che non avrebbero retto il viaggio senza gravi conseguenze e 1 che non riuscirebbe a rientrare in tempo in Italia. Venerdì, o chissà Domani? ci proviamo in 4.

Phantastischer Ausblick besser zu Fuss, weil kaum 2 PKW aneinander vorbeikommen… am Weg hierher liegt Wein, im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes „am Boden“!!! Der Wind 🌬 muss ja meist ganz massiv sein… 😜😜😜

I bollettini meteo non sono stati favorevoli ed era inutile salpare Domenica o Lunedì, quindi la partenza è rinviata a domattina...intanto due giorni in questa isoletta, isolata, dove le strade sono tutte di sabbia, tra le casette bianche con infissi blu, che a stento
Chi ha la macchina ha un defender arrugginito, ne ho scorti una ventina, mentre non credo che gli abitanti arrivino a mille...
Le possibili attività sono la pura esplorazione in Mountain bike/fuoristrada...stasera bissiamo il ristorante Girasole, una piacevolissima scoperta ieri. Economico, pesce freschissimo e buon malvasia.Read more

Mirador del Rio

Nach einem gemütlichen Frühstück draußen auf unserer eigenen kleinen Veranda, erkundeten wir mit dem Auto den Norden der Insel.

Die Wege sind mit dem Auto nicht weit, denn Lanzarote ist insgesamt nur ca. 58 km lang und ca. 34 km breit. Die Landschaft erinnert mit seinen dunklen Felsen und kaum Grünpflanzen an eine karge Mondlandschaft. Was auch kein Wunder ist, denn es gibt auf Lanzarote über über 100 Vulkane und mehr als 300 Krater. Dreiviertel der Insel sind mit erkalteter Lava bedeckt und diese prägt das Landschaftsbild.

Kurz vor dem Mirador del Rio (einem auf der Bergspitze thronenden Café, bei dem man selbst nur für den Ausblick Eintritt bezahlen muss), stellten wir unseren Mietwagen ab und gingen ein paar Schritte. Von dort kann man die Insel „La Graciosa“, wenn auch ein paar Höhenmeter tiefer, genauso gut betrachten, dafür aber kostenfrei.Read more

Eine winzige Insel, die unglaublich zurückgezogen und darüber hinaus einen sehr rückständigen Lebensraum für seine Bewohner bietet! Schön, klein und traditionell! Definitiv einen Besuch wert! Die See ist beim Übersetzen allerdings sehr rau und ihr solltet je nach Art des Bootes eventuell spuckfest sein!Read more

Il Parco Naturale dell’Arcipelago Chinijo (termine locale che significa “piccolo”) è raggiungibile arrivando in volo a Lanzarote e da lì prendendo il ferry che collega Órzola a Caleta de Sebo in soli 25 minuti.

A nord di Lanzarote, nelle Isole Canarie, ti attende il meraviglioso arcipelago Chinijo, con i suoi 700 km2 di area naturale protetta formata da diverse isole, tra le quali La Graciosa, è la più grande e l’unica abitata.

L’isola, con i suoi 29 km2 e un’altitudine massima di 266 metri, vanta una temperatura media di 24 gradi tutto l’anno!! Siamo stati alla spiaggia 🏖 Playa del Salado, Playa Francesa e Playa la Concina sotto il vulcano Montaña Amarilla! Bellissimo!

La riserva Marina dell’Arcipelago Chinijo si compone di Montaña Clara, Alegranza e La Graciosa (l'unica abitata con 658 abitanti), oltre agli isolotti di Roque del Este e Roque del Oeste.

Dal 1995 l'arcipelago Chinijo costituisce il parco marino più grande d'Europa con i suoi 700 km². Dal 1992 fa parte della rete delle Riserve della Biosfera dell'Unesco.Read more
