Clerecia - College of the Company of Jesus

The Royal College of the Society of Jesus is an imposing building that was commissioned by Queen Margaret of Austria, wife of Philip III, and which began to be built in 1617, six years after her death

The architect Juan Gómez de Mora was in charge of starting the project, but since the works lasted some 150 years, many left their mark on this school. Among them, the famous Andrés and Jerónimo García de Quiñones, present in a large number of buildings of the time

It was the school and residence of Jesuits for a century, until they were expelled from Spain

Since 1940 it has been the seat of the Pontifical University of Salamanca

Due to the initial function for which it was built, the building is divided into three parts: the church, the school and the residence.
