Castell de Ferro

We had a little wander around the hilly village we overnighted in, lots of stereotypical little old ladies limping slowly around the cobbled streets. Everyone sits around outside here which is nice as you get to see people and chat compared to back in the uk where the elderly are couped up inside isolated and lonely! I digress. We drove to a mountain stream/pool just south of Granada which, of course required negotiating those ridiculous roads again. Without railings. I was bricking it! And my seat isn’t on the cliff side. We agreed there and then to not do these types of sightseeing again. Anyhow, once parked up, we ambled down the track and found a section of the stream following it further down hoping to find the waterfall and end point. Whilst it was a lovely stroll, weaving in and out of the stream/paths (thankful for wearing our pool shoes) we just couldn’t seem to (safely) reach the end point. We retreated back up the hill in a different direction and did stumble across the smaller of the baño chico (baths), hung about there for a bit then back to the van. Drove only a little further to the campsite for the next couple of nights in Castell de Ferro. The many billion olive trees being replaced by miles and miles of greenhouses for fresh produce. White tent-looking structures everywhere. The campsite is very quirky, I like it. Each pitch is sheltered which is great to keep the sun off however not so good when you rely on solar panel for power. We hooked up to the power hook up but it didn’t seem to be working. After much faffing and fiddling, the kind site man helping too, decided it was something to do with our power connection- we haven’t used the electric hook up since the pop top (and new lighting) was fitted plus the new stereo so whether something’s been disconnected? Our lovely regular mechanic has given us his thoughts so we’ll try that later today. Not a major problem for now but when we get to the section where Gary needs to work this could be a problem to charge the laptop. I mean, if this is the only drama we have, we’re doing ok. We will sort a solution. Plenty of options.
We went for a swim in the sea, very calm. Bit of a shingle beach but very pleasant and quiet. Had a lovely dinner out, first one since we’ve been away. We usually eat at the van so that made a nice change. They don’t eat until late in Spain though so won’t be doing that too often.
One of our neighbours in a tent is British so chatted to him for a bit. Jason has been traveling on his motorbike around Spain for a month or two with no real plan but just living his best life. He said he’s barely bumped into any other brits that drive down this far. Great to chat to people along the way.
Managed to squeeze in a run this morning whilst watching a beautiful sunrise. Looking forward to a couple of days down time working our way along the coast the short journey to Alicante.Read more
