      Happy but damp!!

      Honestly when they said " a towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have" they obviously meant the magic fountain in Barcelona.
      We have just spent a fantastic if not very damp evening watching the Fount Magica de Mont Juic in Placa de les Cascades.
      Honestly the most spectacular sight I have seen.
      Dont stand at the front though as you get soaked!!

      Day 5

      Day 5 Montjuic and the 37th Americas Cup

      October 2 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

      We were up bright and early to make best use of our HOHO tickets and to save our feet. We were going to the Montjuic area which was quite a hike from our apartment. We got off at the Plaja de Espanya and took in the views of the National Museum of Art. Had a quick coffee before walking up to the castle via several gardens and viewpoints.
      Saw a guy getting nicked!
      Our next challenge was to find the Transbodaro ( a vintage cable car over the harbour) again to save our poor feet.
      Finally and amazingly, we walked into the penultimate of our British Yacht racing teams attempts for the Americas Cup.
      It was quite a tense watch, but Britania ruled the waves.
      We saw the Victor's returning to their base to the horns of all the boats and saw the yacht being lifted out.
      We popped into the Cathedral on our way back to the apartment.

      Montjuic

      Hoy ha sido nuestra última mañana en Barcelona y hemos ido a ver Montjuic, junto a la Plaza de España. Es un recinto para ferias en el que hay un gran parque, el Pueblo Español y el Museo Nacional de Arte de Cataluña.
      Subir las escaleras bajo un sol de justicia no ha sido fácil, pero la vendedora de la tienda de souvenirs nos ha dicho que por 2€ podíamos entrar al edificio del museo y subir al mirador, desde el que hemos tenido una espectacular vista panorámica de la ciudad.
      Al bajar hemos ido a comer a la antigua plaza de toros, que actualmente es un centro comercial.
      De ahí hemos vuelto al hotel a por nuestras maletas. Wolfram nos ha llevado al tren y el se ha ido en coche a Zúrich.
      Se ha terminado está intensa semana de vacaciones en la que hemos descubierto muchos lugares interesantes. Hasta el próximo viaje.      Read more

      Feliz nuevo...

      ...es war mega, mega, mega. Gänsehautmomente.
      Ich hatte ja schon ein wenig Bedenken, dass meine Erwartungshaltung zu hoch ist, Massenveranstaltung, zu viele Menschen, Gedränge...
      Ich stand fast direkt vor dem großen Brunnen, kein Geschupse, kein Gedränge. Es wird betont, dass dies keine Party ist, sondern eine Veranstaltung zur Begrüßung des neuen Jahres, gern für die ganze Familie. Und so war es auch. Da waren Familien mit ganz kleinen Kindern.
      Und die Spanier haben es einfach drauf, Lebensfreude pur.
      Als ich mein Ziel erreicht hatte, liefen die Brunnen, aber ohne Farben und Musik. Das Spektakel begann um 21:30 Uhr. Bunte Wasserspiele, hohe Fontänen, dazu Musik durch alle Genres, spanische Klänge, Klassik, Rock, Pop. Das ganze durchweg bis 0:15 Uhr, mit kleinen Pausen, in denen man in drei Sprachen (katalanisch, spanisch und englisch) immer eine kurze Vorschau auf die folgende Musik gab oder sich beim Jahr 2016 für schöne Momente bedankte oder auch für die Sonnentage und Regen.
      Und die Menschen haben vor dem Brunnen, auf der Allee getanzt und du wirst einfach mitgerissen, kannst dich dem nicht entziehen. Fremde Menschen umarmen dich und wünschen dir "Feliz nuevo" nur weil du gerade ein Foto für sie gemacht hast ☺️...oder schenken dir mal von ihrem mitgebrachtem Sekt ein 🍾.
      Höhepunkt der Wasserspiele war natürlich Freddy Mercury's "Barcelona" mit der Opernsängerin Montserrat Caballé. Gänsehaut und Pippi in den Augen.
      15 Minuten vor dem großen Glockenschlag begann zu den Wasserspielen das Feuerwerk mit Einlagen von Flammenwerfern, was eine Minute vor Mitternacht durch den Hinweis unterbrochen wurde, gleich die Weintrauben einzuwerfen...
      Nach dem fünften Glockenschlag habe ich aufgegeben und mich auf das Spektakel konzentriert, das ist nicht zu schaffen ohne Erstickungsanfälle 😂
      Feuerwerk und Knallerei, so wie wir es kennen, wo jeder sein eigenes privates in den Himmel schießt, gibt es in Spanien nicht. Nachdem die Show vorbei war löste sich alles, wenn auch langsam, auf und die Menschen bevölkerten die umliegenden Bar's oder Supermärkte (Ladenschluss gibt es nicht). Ich hab um die U-Bahn einen großen Bogen gemacht, war einfach zu voll und bin zum Hotel gelaufen. Gegen drei lag die Kerstin dann happy in ihrem Bett. Ich wußte doch das Barcelona toll ist an Silvester.
      Diese Veranstaltung kann ich echt empfehlen, falls ihr Silvester auch mal in die Sonne wollt 🎉 Ihr braucht einen Reiseführer oder traut euch nicht allein, wir können über alles reden 😉

      Plaça de España: Il punto di partenza perfetto
      La nostra giornata inizia a Plaça de España, uno dei nodi principali della città. Questa imponente piazza è circondata da edifici monumentali e offre una vista spettacolare della Fontana Magica e del Palau Nacional, sede del Museo Nazionale d'Arte della Catalogna. È il punto di partenza ideale per scoprire Barcellona.

      Poble Espanyol: Un viaggio attraverso la Spagna
      Da Plaça de España, con una breve passeggiata raggiungiamo il Poble Espanyol, un affascinante museo all'aperto che riproduce diversi stili architettonici spagnoli. Camminare per le strade del Poble Espanyol è come fare un viaggio per tutta la Spagna in pochi passi. Qui puoi anche trovare botteghe di artigiani, dove acquistare souvenir unici.

      Anello Olimpico: Nel cuore della storia sportiva
      Poco distante dal Poble Espanyol, si trova l'Anello Olimpico. Questa zona è stata il fulcro dei Giochi Olimpici del 1992 e oggi ospita lo Stadio Olimpico Lluís Companys e altre strutture sportive. È un luogo perfetto per fare una passeggiata e ammirare l'eredità sportiva della città, immersi in un'area che unisce modernità e storia.

      Castel de Montjuïc: Vista mozzafiato su Barcellona
      Salendo un po' di più sulla collina di Montjuïc, raggiungiamo il Castel de Montjuïc, una storica fortezza che offre una vista panoramica spettacolare sulla città e sul mare. Qui puoi fare una pausa, esplorare i giardini circostanti e scoprire di più sulla storia militare di Barcellona. Il panorama da qui è indimenticabile.

      Barrio Gótico: Un tuffo nel passato
      Dopo aver esplorato Montjuïc, ci dirigiamo verso il cuore storico di Barcellona: il Barrio Gótico. Le sue strette strade acciottolate, gli edifici medievali e le piazze nascoste ti trasporteranno indietro nel tempo. Qui puoi visitare la Cattedrale di Barcellona e fare una passeggiata tra negozi caratteristici e caffè accoglienti.

      Barceloneta: Relax sulla spiaggia
      Dopo una giornata di camminate, è ora di rilassarsi a Barceloneta, il quartiere marittimo di Barcellona. Qui puoi fare una passeggiata lungo la spiaggia, sentire la brezza marina e magari fermarti in uno dei tanti ristoranti per assaggiare le tipiche tapas di pesce. È il luogo ideale per ricaricare le energie.

      Parc de la Ciutadella: Natura e tranquillità
      Concludiamo la nostra giornata al Parc de la Ciutadella, uno dei parchi più amati dai barcellonesi. Qui troverai ampi spazi verdi, fontane, un lago dove è possibile noleggiare una barca a remi e anche lo Zoo di Barcellona. È un'oasi di tranquillità nel cuore della città, perfetta per una passeggiata rilassante prima di terminare il nostro tour.      Read more

      During our stay in Barcelona we sadly ended up getting sick and we did not get too explore as much as we would have liked. Even though we were not feeling well, we still tried to see some of the beauty that Barcelona had for us. We spent our New Years Eve in Plaza de España, the fireworks were incredible and they even did a show with drones. Jake really enjoyed the show but for Julie it was torturous night since it was when her sickness hit. On our first day of 2023, Julie was reunited with her biological brother. They were both separated when they were children and this was dream come true for her. Even though we did not get to see very much on this trip we plan on returning since there is now family here in Spain that we will come visit.Read more

      We spent our last day in Barcelona wandering - La Rambla street, the gothic quarter, the waterfront, and took a funicular and then a gondola ride up to Montjuïc to see the stadium and grounds from the ‘92 Olympics. We finished off the evening seeing the “Magic Fountain” showing, something I assume was built for the Olympics. It was a beautiful fountain, set to all kinds music that plays every night for just an hour. Thousands of people gathered for it.Read more
