      To Jimena de la Frontera (25 km)

      Yesterday’s meal was good- the sea bass was freshly caught (we are only 10 km from the ocean after all) and grilled. And they served a really delicious and unusual entrada, which was a salad of sorts —avocado, oranges, onions in a tangy sauce. Since we’ve walked through many avocado and orange groves (with the incredibly sweet scent of the blossoms all around), it seems like an excellent way to show off local produce.

      Today’s walk had about a 300 m ascent up to the ridge of windmills. From there, the views were just gorgeous. Everything was green, lots of wildflowers, valleys, and hills and mountains. It was beautiful. After the descent, the rest of the walk was kind of a slog, a lot of it on asphalt. We had heard from many people on the forum that there was a virtually impassible brambly segment that we could avoid by taking a minor road. That meant about an extra kilometer and some more ascent but hey, we’re here to walk.

      Somehow, I managed to pick the Casa Rural (la Posada Grande) fue that is about as high as you can get in this town. At the end of the day, it was hard. But we are right in the centro histórico and the place itself is very comfy.

      What luck to find that this town keeps their castle open even on a Monday. After a late lunch, I spent about an hour climbing around the castle and am now having an icy agua con gas on a shady terrace looking out over the countryside.

      I have read that 2-3 years ago they discovered a pit with skeletons of some of Franco’s victims. That led to the opening of a little museum in town, which I would very much like to see, but it’s closed on Mondays.      Read more

      To San Martín del Tesorillo (20.7 km)

      Sounds like a short day but it wasn’t. But it was beautiful and a lot of fun. A few kms on asphalt at the beginning and at the end, but in between all off road and through springtime countryside.

      We took a cab to the place we walked to yesterday, and after Clare got a coffee, off we went.

      Lots of wildflowers, cork trees, Holms oaks. No cattle today (unlike the many big groups I navigated yesterday). We had four or five ups and downs and then one large descent over caked mud that had been stampeded over by herds of some animal. That wasn’t fun.

      We knew there was a river crossing, and that there were two options. One is to go check out the level of the water at one point and wade across if it’s navigable, and the other is to walk on a rickety swinging wooden bridge. Since I just recently got up my courage to go on a zip line, I assumed the bridge would be fine. It was a little scary as it swayed back and forth, but we both survived.

      We arrived at our pensión Ochomín a little after 2. By 3 we were down in the restaurant next door. By 4 we had given them our order. One of the staff is home ill, and the owner was rushing around taking orders. He recommended a fresh fish with vegetables and a nice green salad. He told us we would remember this meal.       Neue Badesachen für uns 👙🩳

      Heute Vormittag ging es für uns nach Marbella. Dort schauten wir uns die Stadt an und waren auf der Suche nach einem neuen Bikini für Vicky. Leider mehrfach erfolglos.
      Wir schauten uns auf der Avenida Del Mar die Skulpturen von Salvador Dali an und haben zu Mittag in einem Restaurant an der Strandpromenade Tapas gegessen.
      Kurz bevor wir am Auto waren gingen wir noch in einen letzten Laden, wo wir sogar beide fündig wurden. Und so ging es mit der neuen Bademode ab zum Strand 🏝️
      Nachdem wir ein paar Stunden gebrutzelt und uns auch in das kalte Meer getraut hatten ging es weiter zum heutigen Stellplatz. Resteessen + Karten spielen und dann ab ins Bett      Read more

      Welcome to Manilva!😍 Nach einer 10-stündigen Autofahrt sind wir letzten Freitag gesund und munter am unteren Zipfel des Landes angekommen. Direkt zwischen Malaga und Gibraltar gelegen befindet sich das kleine Örtchen Manilva, welches - wie wir schnell festgestellt haben - zu einem großen Teil von Briten & Franzosen besiedelt wird. 😊 Ich liiiebe den britischen Akzent! 🫶 Manilva ist ein bissch anders als Santa - nicht nur von den Leuten, sondern auch von dem Temperaturen & der Landschaft her! 🥰 Unsere Unterkunft hier befindet sich auf einem Berg… die Aussicht ist einfach ein Traum, aaaber man überlegt sich auch 3 Mal ob es wirklich notwendig ist, die Bergwanderung auf sich zunehmen, um etwas unten in der Stadt zu besorgen. 🙈 Von unserem Appartment in der Duquesa Fairways sind wir auf jeden Fall maßlos begeistert… hier hat jeder sein eigenes Zimmer mit angrenzendem Bad & wir haben zwei wunderschöne Balkons! Einer befindet sich auf der Sonnenseite mit Blick auf den Pool, in dem ich jeden Morgen meine Runden drehe🌊 Der andere befindet sich auf der Schattenseite, bietet dafür aber einen Blick über das gesamte Tal inklusive den Golfplätzen, die sich über die gesamte Fläche erstrecken…🏔️ Die ersten Tage verbrachten wir dann damit, die Umgebung zu erkunden, uns mit Vorräten einzudecken, die Poollandschaft zu entdecken, die Restaurants zu testen oder auch das Meer!☀️ Und guess what: habe ich mal ein spanischen Nagelstudio getestet & bin sogar zufrieden - auch wenn meine Ansprüche nicht so leicht erfüllen sind! 💅🏼Zwischen den ganzen Vergnügungen widmen wir uns der Arbeit - bei mir bedeutet das Bachelorarbeit & meine Werkstudentenstelle und den üblichen Haushaltsaufgaben!🙏 End of story: Life is good 😎 Für das Wochenende haben wir noch eine Wanderung geplant, denn es gibt so viele Berge um uns herum, die erkundet werdet wollen! 😛 Nächste Woche bekommen wir dann erneut Besuch & damit warten auch neue Abenteuer auf uns!       Puerto de la Duquesa is one of the Costa del Sol's marinas that is enjoyed by sailors and tourists alike. Located one hour's drive from the airport of Malaga and 45 minutes form Gibraltar airport. La Duquesa seems like a thousand miles away from the throng of the holiday resorts. It is relatively quiet during most of the year. The restaurants come alive in July and August.

      Manilva is the westernmost municipality in the province. Its lands descend from the lower Genal to the coast and are formed by small hills mainly covered with vineyards.

      The village is located two kilometres from the coast, presided over by the Church of Santa Ana.       Heute haben wir den Bus klarschiff gemacht für Marokko. Bei der Kupplung musste die Rückholfeder getauscht werden und die Schraube, die wir bei der letzten Reperatur am unteren Radgelenk kaputt gemacht hatten, haben wir auch nun endlich auch tauschen können.       Torrox - Manilva

      Heute ist wieder ein Reisetag, oder wie unsere Grosse sagen würde, jetzt fahren wir in die Ferien 🥳
      Nachdem wir erneut fünf Elektroläden bzw. Baumärkte abgeklappert haben, wollten wir unbedingt noch eine Sehenswürdigkeit in Nerja anschauen.
      Da es bereits halb 12 war, waren unsere Kinder nicht mehr ganz so für die „Cueva de Nerja“ - die Höhlen von Nerja zu begeistern. ABER bisschen Kultur gehört dann doch dazu und wir haben es durchgezogen. Danach musste dann aber schnell ein Snack her, den es in einer panadería gab.
      Nun haben wir uns auf den Weg Richtung Gibraltar gemacht.
      Auf dem Weg, wer weiss es nicht, haben wir wieder an zwei Elektroläden gehalten 🤣
      Mal gab es den Stecker, aber kein Kabel, dann gab es nur den einen Stecker, aber das Gegenstück dazu nicht…..denn inzwischen ist Sven soweit, dass er das Kabel selbst zusammen montiert.
      Nach einer leckeren Brezel , die der kleine Mann sich schon seit Tagen gewünscht hat, sind wir in Manilva auf unserem Camping Platz für die nächsten Tage angekommen.
      Und haltet euch fest, wir haben es getan:

      Wir haben uns online ein Kabel bestellt 🥳
      Es soll am Donnerstag geliefert werden🙏
      Heisst, ab dann gibt es jeden Tag kaltes Bier 🍺, abwechslungsreiche Mahlzeiten und Fotos, Fotos, Fotos 📸 weil wir unsere Handys wieder zuverlässig laden können ✌️
      Auf jeden Fall sind wir hier jetzt mal bis Samstag eingebucht und geniessen den Luxus von Pool und direktem Strandzugang 🏝️      Read more
