Tag 14 Nájera nach Domingo de Calzada

      May 15, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Buen CaminoRead more

      May 14, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Morgen geht's weiter. Mal sehen was der Tag so bringt. 😃Read more

      Von logroño nach navarrete.

      May 13, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Buenas. Read more

      Another easy walk

      April 23, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

We are now at Navarrete after an easy 13 km walk. This is a lovely little town on a hill surrounded with vineyards and the rich red Rioja soil. We walked quite slowly so as not to be too early, arrived at about 12.30, stopped for coffee and also for fresh OJ before checking in and room ready, bags here, and we have settled in!

It was a perfect temperature for walking, coolish and quite a lot of cloud cover. It actually feels cold now, and I am wearing a fleece that I thought would never be worn again once we left the Pyrenees…weather app says 19° but it is wrong! It has now become a little drizzly, but doesn’t matter, and tomorrow should be dry and still cooler for our 17 km walk to Nájera. We walked out through the outer suburbs of Logroño- you realise it’s quite a bit city and not just the historical centre - and through a big park and bird sanctuary…very pleasant. And also passed the big bull structure high on a hill that is equivalent maybe to our big banana …. you can see it for miles in all directions…anyway, a very good and easy walk…our hotel has a pilgrim menu for dinner so all is well.

      Navarrete

      September 15, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 75 °F

I started out the day taking a taxi to a sportswear store because I discovered last night that I had forgotten my second pair of pants at the last albergue. Geeze Amanda, get it together! At least the store was only 2 blocks from the trail.
It was a 7 mile day. My knee is still hurting pretty bad. I've booked my night tomorrow so I'm going to send my bag ahead in the morning. That should give me a little easier time for tomorrow's 10 miles.
I saw a guy hand feeding squirrels today. Quite the sight to see.
The ruins are from an old hospital and church that served ancient pilgrims. It was at the entrance to Navarrete.

      Navarrete

      September 20, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Today, at the Marcelino Lobato Ermita del Pelegrina Pasante we met a young man from Italy, who started Walking his Camino on August 15 from Turin, very impressive 👣💪. Everyone on the Camino has a beautiful story behind. And today, even more, I realized how many people are walking their Way... Walking along the fence filled with the simple handmade crosses made me think about Them. Pilgrims who left their crosses there, lightened their load they carry inside themselves. Just simply beautiful, touching and profound ❤️👣✝️

Rioja Vinyards on the way to Ventosa

      October 2, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Rest stop at a café in Ventosa. About 7 km of walking so far. 11km left to Najera.

There are lots of vineyards in Rioja, who knew. Still some grapes left to harvest.

Bright sunny day, temps about 60 now, will get up to the mid 80's this afternoon. We should get a whole week of this weather!Read more

      Navarrete

      September 1, 2023 in Spain ⋅ 🌩️ 21 °C

Another village on a steep hillside.
All the churches are massive, and the decorations inside are over the top.
While we waited for our accommodation to open, we had a delicious lunch, bacon, and eggs. Every pilgrim meal consists of hot chips with a piece of meat, not inviting at all.
We are staying at Bein Camino Hostal in a private room with proper beds and our own bathroom, with a full-size towel. It is glorious.
We had just finished dinner when the thunderstorm and rain started. We can hear rolling thunder, love it.

      To Navarette

      September 11, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 73 °F

We found out today from a woman that the group of people she has been walking with call Alan the “Smiling Man” 😂😂 Plus, another man came up to him the day before yesterday and commented on his smile and good energy. Is this the same man I’m walking with??😂😂

We have entered the Rioja region of Northern Spain, which is best known for barrel-aged red wines made from Tempranillo and Garnacha grapes. 🍇 We have been walking by many fields of grapes and it looks like they are very close to harvest time!

Instead of staying in the big city of Logroño, we are in Navarette. Tomorrow, we will only walk 10 miles to Najera 🙂 That will give our feet a bit of a rest.

      Day 11: Navarrete

      September 20, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F

We started this morning with slices of tortilla, coffee, and orange juice breakfast a little less than a kilometer from our hotel in Logroño.

Not long after we started walking again, I told Allan that if we came across a pastelería I could go for something sweet—and three steps after the words left my month we saw one.

We were soon enjoying chocolate covered pastries and second cups of coffee. And so we finally had our first “second breakfast,” something we’ve heard many pilgrims joke about.

All that sustenance, plus a cool breeze made today’s 4-hour hike to Navarrete quite pleasant.

And after the requisite laundry was washed and hung to dry, we enjoyed a full lunch at a local restaurant. We’re making up on our caloric deficits today!

Tomorrow, we’ll hike 17k to Najera.
