We had to leave the Albergue by 8:00am today, so an early start it was. We had some steep up hill climbs but the view was worth it. After that it levelled off through tranquil woodland paths. This type of walking is my favourite.
There was a tour group just behind me, it was awful. Too much chatter, so I put my ear buds in until they stopped for a break.
Just before entering Redondela it started to rain, I put on my rain jacket and then it stopped…figures.
Arrived at my Albergue just after 12:00. Perfect timing as it started to rain again shortly after. I did laundry got caught up on my posts (no wifi yesterday) and had a snack. It’s Sunday so not much is open. Hoping to get dinner out later.Read more

Our trek home involved a two hour stop in Vigo and we missed the rhythm of walking with everything on our back, so we made a trek around the city to see the sites. The highlight was undoubtedly the Jules Verne memorial. I think Spainards loved 20k leagues under the sea because it was food porn for them - imagine how many people we could feed with that giant octopus!Read more

Um 9 Uhr haben wir in Vigo angelegt. Daniela geht wandern 🥾 und ich bin mit dem E-Bike unterwegs.

Tourbeschreibung: Fahrt vom Hafen zur Basilika Santa de
Maria; weiter zum Castelo do Castro, kurzer
Aufenthalt; weiter entlang der Hauptstraße zum
Strand "Playa del Vao", je nach Wetterlage kurzer
Aufenthalt; Weiterfahrt zum Meeresmuseum
"Faro do Museo do Mar"', Fotostopp am
Leuchtturm, anschließend zurück zum Schiff.
Länge: 24 km // 275 hm

Danach habe ich mich auf dem Schiff aufgehalten und habe das Freizeitangebot genutzt wie zum Beispiel den Zauberer Peter Valance.Read more

Heute ging’s bereits früh morgens los, da eine längere Etappe anstand. Wir stellten leider morgens fest, dass unsere Handtücher nicht mehr im Hostel auffindbar waren.. :D
Wurden aber dafür auf dem Weg gleich mit einem wunderschönen Sonnenaufgang über Baionas Hafen begrüßt.

Danach war es heute wirklich anstrengend bei knapp 30 grad. Dadurch, dass der Weg aber heute wirklich zeitweise direkt über und am Strand entlang lief, konnten wir genügend Pausen machen.

In Vigo wartet mit Iggy Pop gleich noch ein tolles Konzert auf uns. Wir sind gespannt. 🤗Read more

Walking to Pontevedra

I think it's about 12 miles and we have about 7 miles to go...pouring rain on and off. Stopped for a chocolate/ coffee break. Lots of other pilgrims today. It's really beautiful here. It's a hilly estuary with lots of greenery since it rains so much. Everyone has fantastic gardens with the prettiest flowers I've ever seen.Read more

Besuch von Fabi 😍

In Vigo stößt Fabi für eine Woche als Besuch zu uns.
Nach Begrüßung und einer erholsamen Nacht, geht es einmal mehr eine Runde Schwimmen im Marina-eigenen Schwimmbad.
Anschließend steht Wetter- & Routeplanung an.
Auch diese Woche soll stürmisch & regnerisch werden.
Lediglich am Sonntag ab Mittag und Montag zeichnet ein Möglichkeit ab, weiterzukommen.
Nach Austausch mit verschiedenen anderen Booten & Segler*innen, entscheiden wir uns dafür am Sonntag Nachmittag zum Hafen am Ende der Flussmündung von Vigo zu fahren, um von dort am nächsten Tag quasi direkt ins offene Meer starten zu können.
Und erwarten die bislang höchsten Wellen und sind darauf vorbereitet ggf direkt nach dem Start auch wieder umzudrehen.

Am Abend geht es noch, wie kann es anders sein mit uns Kulturbanausen, einmal ins Symphonieorchester.Read more

Making the best out of Vigo 🌧️

Regen, Regen, Regen und auf Grund des stürmischen Wetters - zu viel Wind & Welle - erstmal kein Weiterkommen.

Entsprechend nutzen wir die Zeit für den ein oder anderen Retreat.
Massage, Symphonie Orchester, täglich Schwimmbad, Kochen mit anderen Segler*innen, Museumsbesuche, leckere Restaurantbesuche, …
Am schönsten Tage erklettern wir die Burg mit einem wunderbaren rundum Ausblick ☀️Read more

Der Weg nach Vigo mit rund 27 km heute stand uns ja schon etwas bevor, zumal es dort auch kaum Quartiere gibt und kaum Alternativen in den Orten davor und danach.
Zunächst läuft man noch am Atlantik entlang, aber etwa die Hälfte der Strecke geht durch schier endlose Vorstädte, Industriegebiete entlang der Straße.
Unser kleines Hotel mit Gemeinschaftsbad auf dem Flur liegt am Ende des Industriehafens, wo es dann schon wieder etwas städtischer wird.
Scheinbar gibt es nicht weit von hier zig Tapas-Bars und Restaurants, so dass sich sicher etwas zu essen finden lässt. Und morgen dann raus aus der Stadt und auf nach Cesantes im Binnenland (wo ich 2018 schon war).Read more

Day 4
Caminha to Vigo

Two days ago I was King on a recliner at the pool, today I am a bum on a bench in a busy port city.

This morning the fog rolled into the estuary. The bridge is gone, the ferry is broken, and so is the Portuguese government, incapable of fixing anything. But there is a funky little boat, the peregrino taxi boat taking 5 at a time across the 2km stretch of water. In the fog we couldn't see any land at all, lost at sea? Have trust in the captain, he knows the way. Suddenly we land on a sandy beach trudge ashore and find the boardwalk that leads through the Atlantic pine forest.

This section of coast is absolutely gorgeous, just this part is worth doing the entire Camino Portugues for. But the rest isn't bad either, even entering the huge port city of Vigo has been made as good as it can be.

Baionne is a resort city, but it is dominated by an impressive fort surrounded by 3km of defensible walls, I can't even imagine the building of it.

I'm just about 2/3s done with this Camino and tomorrow is a rest day. It's time. I'm getting on a boat.
