Well what a day, started off beautiful then ended in rain, we walked 11 miles about half in the rain..... not many pictures today, but thankful for a dry place to rest our heads tonight. Sometimes the path is marked in unique ways. There is a great debate about where the halfway point is... so far 4 towns have been said to be it, well we have traveled through 3 of them and the 4th we will travel through tomorrow.... so posting our half way selfie just as Greg and Tam did. Greg Jones In the morning you’ll walk by the church in Sahagún. the church opens at 9;00. you can jump in their snd get a half way certificate if you would like.

They say this is the half way point in the Camino but I have heard that before this is the second time we have walked in the rain but we still walked. I got my boots cleaned off which should make getting them on and off easier Socrates told us to stop at the second bar which we did great food. Stage 21: Calzadilla de la Cueza-Sahagún

22.4 km/13.9 miles, 46°-75°, about 7.5 hours
The foot felt so much better today, I started early at 7:15, the first time I've used a light to walk with. By 8:00 I didn't need it anymore. I stopped every chance I got to sit down, rest and eat something, so grateful not to be in pain. By 10 miles the pain started to return and I was getting stumbley. A strategically placed park with picnic tables and shade appeared just as I was about to fall over and turned out to be the geographic center of the Camino. So I have passed the halfway mark! Found my hostal in Sahagún and did the usual chores- shower, laundry, book the next couple nights, go in search of food. Reconnected with a couple from Longview I first met in Navarrete,and keep tag teaming with, and a couple from Denmark that stayed in the same hostal with me in Fromista and we made a merry band for dinner. I'm going to go to the Tourist Office in the morning when it opens at 9:00 to get my halfway certificate, then walk the 8.5 miles to Calzadilla de Los Hermanillos. I've been walking since September 13, need to try to plot out my stages for the rest of the Way. The plan was to be in Porto, Portugal October 22. That would mean some long stages the next couple weeks. Will have to get input from the team on that.Read more

More than 1/2 way to Santiago!

We walked and uneventful 10k to the small city of Sahagun. Some where east if the city, approximately 383.5 kilometer mark we crossed the half way point of our walk.

Later we passed through two statues claiming to be the mid-point.

Traveler That’s a cute little town, we liked it there. About three days behind us in León. We hitched a ride with a local bread delivery truck from Mansilla de las Mulas to León this morning. Caught the Saturday market in Plaza Mayor and toured the cathedral. The best stained glass windows we have ever seen. Our hotel room overlooks plaza mayor. Tomorrow is another off day and then we head into the mountains. Not sure that I (Jim) will be able to do any more full days as the hills are getting serious. Buen camino, we miss you guys.

Toradillos to Bercianos

Due to technological difficulties somewhere in Spain I couldn't send my blog from my tablet so rewriting on my phone.
Anyway today has been a great day with an early start of 630 am and a walk of 24 km.
It was going to be a hot day so before 8 am we had walked about 7 km.
Desperate for breakfast we came along by accident a delightful cafe in Sabln Nicholas . Full of memorabilia and a gorgeous old piano we had our coffee and croissants! The coffe was great
On we walked to Sahagun which is quite a special place as it marks the half way point if the Camino! Take a bow our team if eight.
Lovely town with lots if churches and monuments to people we will never know!
But it was pretty and the coffees again were good.
On we walked and the temperatures rose but luckily we had a lot of shade from old old trees. After 23 km we came across Bercianos. A sleepy little town with its crumbly buildings but I have to say we have had such a fun night.
After our siesta we wandered the village. Wine was being pressed and a bottle of fresh grape juice given to us. Then a look at the local potanque competition.
To end the evening we had dinner with a Dutch man called Toon . He was turning 70 and we were all in tears as he told us of his wife's death at 42 of cancer. Needless to say we had birthdday songs and comforted him. I guess that is the true magic of the Camino, not just the scenery but the characters we meet and we are sharing the same experiences.

Wir sind durch Sahagun durchgewandert bis nach Bercianos, um dort Kate (Südafrika) zu treffen (große Wiedersehensfreude) und gemeinsam in ein sehr gutes Donativo einzuchecken. Sehr herzlicher Empfang durch die Hospitaleros. 2/3 der anderen Gäste sind alte Bekannte, die fast immer dieselbe Wahl treffen, wie wir :). Fühlt sich sehr gut an.Read more

Reliegos !!

Today was a challenge ! I ended up walking a marathon - 42km ! In doing so, i put myself one full day ahead of schedule. So I now have time to squeeze in a rest day where I need one (which I might need after today 😅), or end up spending an extra day in Leon or Santiago! Besides the last two or so miles, I wasn’t feeling too bad, likely thanks to amazing home-cooked Italian meal I had at my albergue last night. 😂 also, for some reason it is only letting me upload 10 pictures lately, rather than the usual 20 :(Read more

Started after 9am today. Only a short walk so no hurry. Weather was great. Walked through some wee villages. Terradillos de.los Templarios, Moratinos, San Nicolas del Real Camino. There are more words in the village names than residents in some of these places.Read more
