    Sant Feliu de Guìxols

    January 17 in Spain

After the fun of yesterday's bike ride and visit to the Teatre-Museu Dalì, we had a back to reality day in which we drove, filled and emptied the van, started off some washing and did an Aldi shop. In the supermarket we found a mix of Catalonian and Spanish language labels on the products. It was interesting to see, but it made it doubly difficult to translate. There was also a large range of beans, dried in packets and soaking in jars. Apparently they are a staple of Catalonian cuisine.

As we travelled we passed thousands of yellow ribbons tied to railings, balconies, trees and lamposts, all expressing solidarity with the independence movement and the jailed politicians.

We had a van lunch and look round Ulla town. The narrow lanes with vines growing along the walls of the houses bordering them were quaint, but it was very quiet. We'll have to once again get used to places shutting down in the middle of the day!

As we approached and entered Sant Feliu de Guìxols, it was clear that it was a resort town. A lot of low quality accomodation stood empty and the streets seemed particularly underpopulated. We became dubious as we approached our planned stopover because of the urban atmosphere, but were pleasantly surprised when we got to the end of the narrow road and found 2 of the 5 spaces free, in a culdisac that overlooked the cliffs and a wide expanse of sea.

A clifftop walk ran alongside a well presented hotel complex undergoing renovation. The warm sandstone rocks contrasted impressively against what was now a steely grey sky. Passing by the deserted balconies, we thought of how the now quiet path would be bustling with people in 6 months' time.

Vehicles and people came and went from our little car park, especially around sunset. It was a great vantage point to watch the sun tracing its slow path towards the land, illuminating the clouds as it went.

    Dinner for Queens

    October 13, 2017 in Spain

For dinner and celebrating Nicole's awesomeness on a bike we found Sa Marinada overlooking the port we had some beautiful local vino blanco. Finally the restaurant was open. Generally restaurants don't open for dinner until 8pm. We had a beautiful dinner, highlights include lobster soup, carpaccio eel with avocado, and amazingly tender duck. They matched wines for us and it was just perfect. A beautiful way to spend an evening but by 10pm we were well and truly ready for bed so caught a taxi back to the hotel.Read more

    Traningslager auf dem GR92

    March 27, 2017 in Spain
