A walk through history and town...

Today is a day Steph in particular has been looking forward to as we headed to the Nordic Museum, one of the most gorgeous buildings in Stockholm I must say.

On the way we decided to stop off and go for a walk in the crisp morning air...

It was a stunning walk along the waterfront, with a massive pay off as the cafe ended up not only being infinitely cute but also being stocked with great food and baked goods!

After finishing up at the cafe and the Nordic Museum we headed out for some fun at the ABBA museum, which was both nostalgic and heaps of fun!

We then bravely decided to walk all the way back to the hotel!

A decent hour or so or trekking in the somewhat rainy December weather but the decision paid off big time as we got to experience some truly amazing buildings and sites along the way before finally sinking in to a lovely bath, now to a highly anticipated dinner before capping off the night!Read more

Das Ergebnis des Tages: Stockholm ist eine tolle Stadt und auch mit dem Fahrrad an einem Tag auf keinen Fall zu schaffen. Wir sind heute 39 km gefahren, davon waren 16 km Hin- und Rückfahrt. Da war leider keine Zeit für eine Schlossbestätigung oder ein Museum obwohl hier einige interessante sind. Das wir pünktlich zur Wachsablösung da waren, war Zufall und 50 min. Nette Unterhaltung.Read more

A stroll through Stockholm

We're continuing our highly active vacation, I feel like most times you go on vacation you go home with a few extra kilos, this might be the first time I come home slimmer ha ha ha.

Anyway we had a beautiful slow stroll through Stockholm today with breathtaking views of the city popping up through the quaint city scape as we strolled on.

Det finns inget dåligt väder...

Bara dåliga kläder!

The above is a Swedish saying which roughly translates to "there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes!".

This has been a day that perfectly proved this point.

We've just had our first full day in Stockholm and it's been absolutely amazing!

It started off with us finding out that our luggage has been located and will be sent to us, however as we're still a few days off before it gets to us, we activated our insurance policy, got approval to access funds to buy clothes etc. So off on a shopping spree we went!

A stunning, cold but sunny day awaited us and it couldn't have been more perfect!

We started off by going by subway to the main shopping area in central Stockholm, the large store called Åhlens (think a more upscale version of farmers) and also visited the very high fashion place called NK (think a more exclusive Smith and Coeys).

We got some amazing winter clothes that look great and keep us so warm and snug!

We stopped at the "hole in the wall" traditional hot dog and ice cream place at NK before travelling back to Gamla Stan (old town) and the quaint and Christmas spirit filled streets.

It was an amazing experience seeing all the traditional shops, bakeries and cafes that fill the nook and crannies of the snow clad town.

We ended our walk by going to one of the most lovely Christmas market experiences we could ask for at the centre of Gamla Stan!

As the temperature dropped to a chilly -15 we made our way back to the hotel for a soak in the jacuzzi before heading out for a lovely dinner!

Our first day in Stockholm has been phenomenal and we can't wait for the rest of trip to continue!Read more

Traveler Bring back so many happy memories, Steph, you look amazing in your winter clothes. Åhléns was the company I worked for, purchase deparment for kitchen items. Office at the time was nearly opposite NK.

Lost in transition...

Arrived in Sweden and surprise surprise, our luggage wasn't here.

After a short debate we decided that waiting in line with the 20 or so other people was not conducive to our need for rest, so we set of through the dark and snow clad Swedish night to finally get a great night's sleep!

And what an amazing hotel we're staying in! So cute, cosy and perfect distance from everything.

So grateful to the lovely staff who very nicely not only got us a room with a bath which we were very keen for, but actually got us a room with a jacuzzi!Read more

Goodbye Stockholm our old friend...

Well the final day is here, and it's with mixed emotions we depart as the snow falls lightly on the quite streets of Old Town.

Mostly, after having such a great time, we look forward to coming back to our pets, home, friends and family, but also we'll miss our temporary home, friends and family that we've met while on our travels.

Life long memories gathered and unique experiences had among the cobble stoned streets of Gamla Stan.

Lots of fun and laughter along the way with those we were lucky enough to catch up with while here.

And a serene, picture perfect adventure in our cosy Christmas cottage.

Stockholm - 2. Hauptstadt Skandinaviens

Heute morgen in Stockholm angekommen. Im Hostel gab's dann zum Frühstück erstmal ein paar kostenlose Kaffee und eine Banane.

Danach alleine die Stadt erkundet und mir Sehenswürdigkeiten angeschaut. Die Altstadt ist wirklich sehr schön und echt zu empfehlen, sich die mal anzuschauen.

Dann gab's kostenlose Nudeln vom Hostel mit selbstgekauftem Pesto:)
Abends noch bei einem Trivia Quiz mit Simon mitgemacht, den Hauptpreis haben wir leider nicht gewonnen, dafür aber denn für den besten Namen und als Preis gab es einen Kurzen.
Und als kleinen Mitternachtssnack gab's mit Simon dann nochmal Nudeln mit Pesto:)

Morgen hab ich mich für eine eine Wikinger-Wanderung angemeldet, bin gespannt, was mich da erwartet.Read more

In Skansen leben auch Tiere. Die Hühner graben in den Beeten nach Würmern, Eichhörnchen und Pfau lassen sich durch nichts aus der Ruhe bringen, die Frischlinge sind seit Mai ganz schön gewachsen und rennen im Schweinsgalopp durchs Gehege. Die Vildsvin-Mutter war ganz entspannt. Auch die Wolverine sind gut gelaunt gerannt, geklettert und im Wasser umhergewatet.Read more
