    Getting thru Kansas

July 29 in the United States

We spent the night in Laramie Wyoming, what a great place and the scenery was beautiful. The next morning we took the back way to Ft Collins what a beautiful drive and is a place on our list to return and explore. It is mostly private land but it would be totally cool to have a cabin or a place to set up there in the mountains. It is off the grid but close enough to the city to have all those amenities. We continued on thru Ft Collins and made it to Kansas. We drove thru Oakley Kansas, where I used to work and live. Unfortunately we didn't have time to stop and visit. Although I out-processed from the Air Force I still had an active duty ID and had to get to a military base to get the blue retired ID, I tried in Salt Lake but that didn't workout. Now it's the weekend so what to do, so we decided to get back to where we could get it done. The bureaucracy of government did create some consternation for us but we overcame. Okay back to the story. It was good to see the house in Oakley and drive down main street. It was a long day in the car but finally made it to Abilene KS, what a nice town. We ate at the best Mexican restaurant ever called La Fiesta, besides the meal the multiple margaritas erased the drive that day. Alicia is the primary photographer, she is really good at it.Read more

Didn't do much sight seeing today, rather it was about driving east and taking photos as we drove. Alicia stll amazed at the sights, mountains, the Great Salt Lake, the salt flats and the sights as we drove thru Wyoming. We are spending the night in a motel a shower was great but ready to stop driving. Not sure what tomorrow will bring but it is an adventure sharing with Alicia. Here are a few photos and enjoy.Read more

    Lassen Volcanic National Park

July 24 in the United States

As we prepared to leave Fortuna CA and The Redwoods we weren't exactly sure where to go next. We evaluated routes to start in an easterly direction and found this National Park. It was well worth the 150 miles to get here but took most of the day, a wait due to construction in the mountains and a roll over accident. We almost turned around due to the constitution, the flag person saying the road was closed until noon we were there at 0945. Fortunately they changed their mind and led all the cars thru. It was beautiful in this section as we left the Redwoods behind. As we approached the park there was a roll over pickup. Only the sheriff's deputies and the victims were there so stopped to see if they needed help. Luckily fire rescue got there so we could leave. The Park is beautiful, camping in the tent was great, slept really well. We have found that every location has had its unique beauty. Please check out the photos and share your thoughts with us.
