      Day 4🇨🇭

      Today was a special day!
      We woke up in Geneva and went for a morning coffee. Then we had to catch the train to Zurich. Scenery was lovely - as is the whole of Switzerland - and we enjoyed looking out the window. However we had a crying baby next to us which we felt sorry for (the whole duration of the ride was 2h 40m..). Arriving in Zurich was lovely, we had time to walk around, get a snack from COOP! (You know we love that supermarket), walk on Bahnhoffstrasse (the road with all the expensive shops) and remember the walks we had with Stamos back in 2019! It amazed me how I remembered where everything was and how to move around town. We also took a picture outside of the restaurant Stamos took us for Fondue.
      After our walk, we boarded the train to Sargans. It was time to go find our friends, Martina and Mathias who we had met back in December in Aqaba, Jordan. We were both travelling from Jordan to Athens, when our car rental agency hadn’t arrived to collect the cars the morning of the flight🙄. Eventually, we boarded the plane and when we got to Athens I gave Martina a piece of paper with my name and Phone number on it just in case they needed any help while in Greece!
      And that’s how it all happened. While they were still in Greece we met at Sweet Habit for a coffee and said we’d meet again.
      So now was the day! We were so happy to see them again. Btw, Martina and Mathias had been travelling the world for 10 months and got back to Switzerland in April (I hope I’m not getting this wrong!) so we wanted to hear about their adventure!
      They met us at Mels Post and it felt super nice to see them again. We went to their new house, they showed us around and we also met their new family member - Chewie the cat!
      Then we all got our swimming costumes on and went to the pool to cool down. We taught them the word “χαλαρά” (halara) and it was funny to talk about the differences between our cultures.
      They really looked after us! They prepared raclette, Matthias’s favourite Swiss food (the one he missed the most on their travelling) which is special cheese melted with all sorts of toppings over boiled baby potatoes. It was delicious!
      Then we all sat and chatted which felt very familiar and spontaneous. It’s nice to have foreign friends ❤️
      When it was bed time, Chewie was full of energy so I played with him for a bit to try and tire him out. Not entirely sure that worked, but he was super cute and jumping all over the place.
      Martina and Mathias made us feel just like home - they promised to visit Athens so we’ll be waiting for them 100%!      Read more

      Klein aber fein

      Wir sind im Zwergenstaat Liechtenstein zwischen der Schweiz und Österreich, das auf auf Rang 6 der kleinsten Staaten der Welt ist. Mit eine Fläche von 160 km2 ist es kleiner als Hannover (204km2);und hat auch mit 38500 Einwohnern weniger als Hameln (ca. 57000).

      Uns gefällt es hier. Wir haben schon eine Nacht auf dem Campingplatz Mittagsspitz ein paar Kilometer südlich von Vaduz verbracht, der auch der einzige Campingplatz im Fürstentum ist und beschließen noch eine weitere Nacht zu bleiben. Wir nutzen den Vormittas, um uns die Hauptstadt Vaduz mal anzuschauen. Nach nicht mal einer Stunde haben wir auch schon fast alle Sehenswürdigkeiten des kleine Landes gesehen.
      Den Nachmittag verbringen wir dann hauptsächlich auf dem Campingplatz im Pool und Luise natürlich auch auf dem Spielplatz in Sichtweite zu unserem Stellplatz. Bei 33°C hatten wir keine Lust zu etwas anderem.      Read more

      Vaduz

      Ich verlasse heute Österreich und fahre über den Arlbergpass in den benachbarten Zwergstaat Liechtenstein, um dessen Hauptstadt zu besuchen.
      Auf dem Berg über der Stadt thront das wuchtige Schloss und eröffnet Ausblicke auf einen großen Teil des Fürstentums. Im Zentrum finden sich historische Gebäude in unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft zu moderner Architektur und ähnlich wie in Innsbruck, ist das das Gebirge stets im Hintergrund zu sehen. Der relativ neue Platz am Landtag gefällt mir besonders gut, denn durch die Farb- und Materialwahl wirkt er wie aus einem Guss und schafft nicht nur einen fließenden Übergang zum Neubau, sondern verbindet diesen auch mit den Bestandsbauten zu einem gelungenen Ensemble. Die sehr kultivieren Fußgängerzone finden sich neben Geschäften auch mehrere Museen und die gesamte Innenstadt wird von auffallend vielen Skulpturen geschmückt.
      Bereits mit der Überquerung des am Stadtrand verlaufenden Rheins, befinde ich mich auf schweizerischem Boden und fühle mich in den bodenständigen Dörfern deutlich wohler. Mein Stellplatz liegt am nördlichen Rand der Alpen oberhalb des Walensee und bietet einen schönen Ausblick auf die Alm und die Berge.      Read more

      Kurzer Abstecher ins Fürstentum

      Liechtenstein - wer kann sich schon was darunter vorstellen? Ich konnte es mir ehrlich gesagt nicht. Deshalb beschlossen wir,einfach mal hin zu düsen-lag eh auf unserem Weg- wir mussten nur die Rheinseite wechseln.
      Außer, dass wir hier auf ein Gourmet-Event gestoßen sind, auf dem wir uns nicht durch gegessen haben, kann ich auch immer noch nicht mehr zu diesem Mini- Staat erzählen, außer:
      Sieht aus wie die Schweiz, spektakulär viele hochragende Berge, die Hauptstadt ist Vaduz, gefühlt 10 Sportstätten auf aller kleinstem Raum, ein hübsch anmutender Landtag und es gibt kurz danach den "berühmten Luzisteig", den wir dann doch nicht geradelt sind, obwohl das ja eigentlich ein Muss gewesen wäre😜.       From Switzerland it’s on to one of the least visited countries in Europe- Lichtenstein. The whole country is only 12km wide and 25km long. It’s ‘doubly landlocked’ by two landlocked countries, Switzerland and Austria and so they speak mainly German.
      I only have time to see its capital Vaduz which is a bit of a shame as apparently the tiny little country has some beautiful countryside, stunning mountains, and fairytale castles within its borders. Unfortunately, Vaduz itself feels a little bland and a little dated but it’s nice to see somewhere different.

      Lichtenstein is one of the world’s richest countries… however 50% of its GPD comes from its only resident billionaire, Christoph Zeller who sells dental products. It’s a masterclass in how easily statistics can be skewed. The success of Zeller’s company not only propelled him to his billionaire status but also makes the tiny country the world’s biggest manufacturer of false teeth.

      I take a wander round, find the obligatory passport stamp, walk through its main streets and stop for a while outside its parliament building, which is a rather grand old building. Women only got the right to vote here in 1984 making it the last country in Europe to grant women the vote. The blue and red flag flutters in the breeze outside parliament and I’m reminded that Lichtenstein’s national anthem follows the same tune as God Save the Queen. With a quick wander around Vaduz complete, it’s onward to Belgium for my next stop.      Read more

      Schönes Tirol

      Es war eine schöne Reise durchs Tirol mit einer richtigen Passfahrt über den Arlberg, weil der Tunnel gesperrt war.🙂

      Über Lichtenstein gefahren, wollten sie uns nur einen Sch....platz anbieten..... und wir mussten das Zelt wieder abprotzen. So haben wir uns auf eine Weiterfahrt nach Hause entschieden und hatten eine gute Heimreise mit schönem Sonnenuntergang und guten Schweizerstrassen.Read more

      And today Switzerland. Drive toward the mountains full of towns and villages. Green grass, blue sky’s.

      It was really a “I’m on the top of the world feeling”. Breeze blowing at the top making it a little chilly.

      Wenn wir schon mal in dieser Gegend sind, dann schauen wir uns doch mal das Fürstentum Liechtenstein an.
      Leider empfing uns Liechtenstein mit Regen, dafür aber mit einem schönen Regenbogen 🌈.
      Ansonsten ist es hier unspektakulär, natürlich landschaftlich sehr schön, ein kleines ruhiges Städtchen eben.
      Die Nacht hier verbringen wir auf dem Parkplatz vom Lichtensteiner Rheinstadion.      Read more

      Purely for the basis of saying that we’ve been, we ventured south in our road trip to Lichtenstein, knowing that if we didn’t it would be a bigger to come back and visit again!

      I can tell you it is rich, clean, hot and busses don’t look before they pull on it into traffic 😂

      Liechtenstein

      Wir haben heute einen Ausflug nach Liechtenstein unternommen 😊 - genauer gesagt hauptsächlich nach Vaduz. Nach ca. 1,5 h Zugfahrt von Zürich befindet man sich in einer malerischen Bergwelt und in einem anderen Staat. Leider haben sich mit der Landesgrenze die Preise nicht wirklich verändert 🙄. Und viel gibt es eigentlich nicht wirklich zu sehen. Nach 2h hat man von Vaduz alles gesehen was es zu sehen gibt inkl. Kunstmuseum (bei dem die 'Kunst' tatsächlich im Auge des Betrachters liegt). Tipp: Räder ausleihen (sofern bereits angeboten) und flexibel von A nach B fahren. Und das Schloss liegt zwar malerisch auf der Höhe, ist aber nicht öffentlich zugänglich, den Weg kann man sich also sparen.Read more
