      Zermatt - Villigen

      Le temps est encore maussade à Zermatt ce matin. On en profite quand même pour marcher un peu après le déjeuner à l’hôtel (où les enfants ont découvert la tartinade d’Ovomaltine). Puis, c’est le départ en direction de Villigen, près de Zurich. La route est magnifique, entre vallées et montagnes, prés et vallons.

      Une fois arrivés à l’appartement, on dépose nos valises. Comme les femmes de ménage n’ont pas terminé, on va faire un tour à la piscine du village en attendant. Finalement, après la baignade, on décide d’y souper. Ça fait du bien de se poser. Une journée plus tranquille avant un autre sprint de tourisme!      Read more

      Auf geht's nach Zermatt

      Pünktlich um 12.30 sind wir in Jesewitz gestartet... 10 Stunden Fahrt lagen planmäßig vor uns.... Gen Süden-in die Schweiz
      Hat alles auch gut geklappt, nur die letzten Kilometer bis nach Täsch zogen sich... Nach 11 Stunden waren wir dann da, haben das Auto geparkt (Zermatt ist autofrei).... Wurden zu einem Stamperle Schnaps genötigt und dann gings nach Zermatt..... Am zentralen Parkplatz Umstieg in den E-shuttle bis zum Hotel...       Zermatt and the Matterhorn

      This was a highlight day.

      In summary, it was like walking around inside a postcard or a tourist film all day.

      Unfortunately Ben was battling a nasty cold (RAT test says not covid thankfully) so took a little longer to get going today - but I don’t think we missed anything.

      The train ride in was great, the anticipation as we got closer was most evident in Clare’s smile. The ride into Zermatt alone was an adventure - but we had the Matterhorn to come.

      Once we arrived we quickly grabbed a coffee and explored the town. Realising it was a tourist destination (every 2nd shop sells outdoor gear and every store next to that sells souvenirs) and there was little to learn re culture, we headed to the cable car.

      It’s all very well done and we shared the car with skiers who were heading up to the top for a day on the alps. This mountain dwarfs anything we have in Australia, there are kms of runs in all directions.

      Once we got to the top we went into the restaurant which was overcrowded and overpriced. No shock there. $40 for 2 bowls of chips later and we were on our way to the upper platform.

      Never seen anything like it in person. Was -10 degrees out on the platform. Made it over 4000 metres high and could feel the lack of air. Had to climb some stairs and I felt like a pack a day smoker.

      A guy from NZ pointed out the Mount Blanc mountain in Italy to me quietly - said most people don’t know it’s there and he was helping me out because I’m Australian….🤷‍♂️

      Bit of tourist shopping (yes, they got our money) and back to the chalet for our last night here.      Read more

      Was für ein Träumli

      Früh morgens geht es los. Bereits um 8 Uhr stehen wir an der Haltestelle. Das Testcenter an der Mittelstation Trockener Steg ist das professionellste, was ich je erlebt habe. In kürzester Zeit werden Unmengen von Kunden mit guter Beratung durchgeschleust. Das Wetter ist eisig und klar,kein Wölkchen am Himmel und die Sonne lacht. Wir fahren beschwingt die Pisten ab und tauschen mehrmals die Ski. Ein phantastischer Tag nimmt sein Ende in der Apresski bar:)Read more

      Dank Andrea und Andreas kommen wir zu diesem tollen Event. Die Anteise ist beschwerlich und lang, doch angekommen,fühlen wir uns wie im Märchenwald. Es war eisig kalt und schneit,das Stadtbild ist zauberhaft weihnachtlich und ergreifend.       Zermatt

      Von Interlaken fahre ich nach Süden über Spiez und Visp bis nach Zermatt.
      Besonders das letzte Stück durch das Mattertal und vorbei an einer Schlucht ist schön.
      Zermatt ist ein typischer Wintersportort, sehr international und ohne Autos, es gibt nur kleine Elektrofahrzeuge für Personen und Gepäcktransport.
      Die Lage ist einmalig am Ende des Tals zwischen hohen Bergen. Von überall sieht man (bei gutem Wetter) das berühmte Matterhorn. Die Form ist so prägnant und der Berg steht so frei, dass es fast unnatürlich wirkt.
      Zum Mittagessen gibt es traditionelles Käsefondue. Sehr lecker und sehr sättigend.      Read more

      A Matterhorn Glacier Paradise

      Tuesday, we were met by our guide, Judy, for an all-day adventure. The weather favored us with beautiful Matterhorn views in the morning.

      On the way to the top, we stopped At Schwarzsee Lake and visited the Chapel. Switzerland is a Catholic country and the mountains are sprinkled with Chapels. This Lake and Chapel have been a pilgrimage site since the early 18th century.

      Continuing to the top, Glacier Paradise, we visited the Ice Cave. Then, we climbed to the top of the Observation Tower where you can see the Paradiso Range of the Alps and glimpse Italy and France. Too bad, the clouds obscured our view of Mont Blanc.      Read more

      Clouds & Drizzle

      Woke up to a very wet drizzly morning. Settled in with hot mugs of coffee, and used the time to plan more of our European adventure.

      Ventured out a few times between rain bursts. This time we left prepared with an umbrella and our waterproof motorcycle jacket liners.

      A decided to looked at the forecast for Saturday and realized it was going to be pretty cool at the top, 3C, when our race ends! Thankfully the rain is supposed to clear up for race day. So we bought a couple running arm sleeves from the Marathon swag tent to keep us warm.

      Upon returning back to our building we enjoyed the "spa" room, which we had prebooked the day before. Since our building it isn't very busy, we had it all to ourselves! It is not fancy but comfortable!

      Our last walk took us to the pasta party tent to use our voucher for a pasta dinner. Time to "carb up"!      Read more

      Journal de bord n°4 : Zermatt

      Nous avons passé 3 jours (du 18 au 21) dans cette "station huppée" telle qu'elle est décrite sur Google.
      C'est un magnifique village où les voitures sont interdites : calme garanti.
      La vallée de Zermatt culmine à 1600 mètres environ, on a perdu presque 15 degrés et ça nous a fait du bien.

      De ce village on peut admirer l'incroyable Mont Cervin qui se distingue par sa forme et son sommet glacé, enneigé. Au sommet, l'altitude est de 4 478m. Son image est utilisé sur les emballages du Toblerone. Il est splendide et impressionnant.

      On a fait des randonnées dont une qui nous a menée jusqu'aux Gornerschlucht, des gorges impressionnantes, puis jusqu'au pont suspendu de Furi qui surplombe ces mêmes gorges : sensations fortes garanties.
      On a eu un gros coup de cœur sur ce village, on s'y est senti apaisés, sereins, heureux. C'est l'effet de la montagne.

      Pour notre dernier soir, on s'est offert une fondue suisse (vacherin, Gruyère) excellente, dans un petit restaurant où nous avons rencontré un couple adorable avec lequel on a parlé toute la soirée, on espère les recroiser un jour.

      À retenir :
      - La vie y est chère, on va pas le dire à chaque fois : c'est la Suisse. Mais quand même, une combinaison de ski à 10 000 CHF (plus de 9 000€)!
      - Les suisses sont vraiment sympa (en tout cas ceux qu'on a croisé)
      - La montagne ça vous gagne
      - Dans la vallée de Zermatt il y a la passerelle suspendue la plus longue du monde (près de 500m)
      - Les Zermattois parlent l'allemand

      On espère y revenir un jour, et voir la neige sur les montages...      Read more

      Genève - Zermatt

      Départ ce matin en direction de Zermatt en vue de mon demi marathon qui a lieu demain. Un voyage en train avec une vue magnifique. La vallée se dessine tranquillement, les montagnes se font de plus en plus serrées et de plus en plus hautes.

      Un petit arrêt dans la ville de Brig avant de changer de train pour Zermatt. Le temps s’est assombri, on ne voit plus les sommets.

      La ville de Zermatt est superbe. De vieux chalets en bois, des fleurs partout, des rues pavées. Il n’y a aucune voiture dans la ville (les gens doivent stationner à Tasch et prendre le train), seulement les petites voiturettes électriques carrées qui servent de taxis. C’est une ville très touristique, pour le ski et l'alpinisme surtout, donc tout y est cher. Mais tout est beau.

      Nous avons soupé au seul resto végétarien de la ville et c’était très bon. Nous avons un peu marché dans la ville, mais comme il pleut, on ne voit pas le Cervin. Peut-être demain!      Read more
