    • Day 33 - F¥ck It, Not Phuket

      January 11, 2022 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Woke up to a cacophony of noise from singing birds to crowing cockerels to the Thai man next door hacking up phlegm & gobbing it. Just after 9am we went to breakfast to find an agitated Sylvian. Apparently the Thai man & his family next door had not respected the Leeloo rules & their crimes included flicking cigarette butts into the well tended garden, urinating in the garden & having a poo in an another room. Aiye was tasked with ensuring that they packed up & left the property.

According to Sylvian, the Thais from southern Thailand are less educated & have no manners or respect. A harsh sweeping statement. We sent Sylvian off to make our breakfast & cool down. As you would expect from a Frenchman, he took pride in his food & the breakfast was excellent.

After breakfast we lounged around the pool & after their cleaning chores, Sylvian informed us that he & Aiye were going into town for a few hours & we were in charge of the place. Apparently one of the mountain bikes we had borrowed on day 1 now had a flat tyre, so gave me his motorbike keys should we need or want to go out. It was a nice gesture considering the last time we borrowed his motorbike we abandoned it at the Indian with a flat battery!

We stayed around the pool all day, appreciating a lazy day with the birds singing, butterflies fluttering, lizards lounging & skinks slinking. Lunch consisted of a couple of Hong Thongs & in the afternoon, after much ‘discussion’ about prices & value for money, we booked 3 nights cheapish accommodation on Ko Phangan.

We also looked at the the different location options available to us & made the momentous decision that we would avoid the Phuket resorts & stay in Ko Phangan & Koh Tao until we go home.

We returned to CC Restaurant & Bar on Sylvian’s scooter for our final dinner in Khanom; which turned out to be a bit of a wind tunnel. We both ordered the Pad Thai, but no ordinary Pad Thai, ours came enclosed in a thin omelette. We hadn’t had or seen one of these since we went to Koh Samui at least 20 years ago.

We saw a different side to CC Restaurant & Bar, because a number of westerners, male & female turned up throughout the evening as well as some potential Thai brides. The bar was definitely the farang’s meeting place.

We were too exhausted to hang around, so we picked up a Hong Thong & headed back to a our balcony for a Ricky Gervais outtake session in preparation for Afterlife series 3.
