    The Viking Polaris is an expedition cruise ship that will hopefully get us smoothly across the infamous Drakes Passage to Antarctica. It is a Polar Class 6 certified vessel designed for harsh conditions, featuring an X-bow for a smoother ride, an ice-strengthened hull, and a ballast tank for stability. Our cabin was a lot posher than i had expected. This was to be our first cruise and my stomach is not great on day boats! Not sure i would make it to any of the restaurants, Nordic Spa, or expedition lectures. I came prepared with plenty of ginger tablets for sea sickness!
    No single country owns Antarctica; it is governed by the Antarctic Treaty of 1959, which dedicates the continent to peaceful, scientific purposes. While several countries have made territorial claims, the treaty does not recognize these claims and prohibits new ones.
