      De Suez a Civitavecchia

      April 28, 2023, Eastern Mediterranean ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

We're on the Rhodes to Nowhere

      November 26, 2023, Eastern Mediterranean ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

Rhodes, Greece. A lovely day was planned sightseeing this ancient Greek city today, though Poseidon, God of the sea, had other plans.

The swells made docking at port impossible. Sales of motion sickness tablets on-board soared with the crests of the waves. I myself had a rough morning.

I'd purchased paracetamol in Crete yesterday, and took a dose before bed last night. I laid awake most of the night. Not unwell. Not feeling tired. And worked out at 5am I'd taken the Greek equivalent of Panadol Extra. Paracetamol + Caffeine. At least I had reason and planned my 4pm bedtime after a day of exploration.

Over breakfast, the announcement was made. We'd be missing this port.

I decided today was my day! I can get a really long run in and smash some goals! I can catch up with an at sea day! I'd not however considered the combined forces of treadmill running in high seas combined with burgeoning seasickness myself.

I managed to run 4.5km over 2 sessions (hanging on for dear life at some points), a 2 hour nap and a 6pm bedtime in hopes tomorrow, we can dock at Alanya, Turkey, and that the seas settle for the sake of all on board.

A day of rainbows at least to bring some cheer.

      Wieder in Europa

      April 28, 2023, Eastern Mediterranean ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

Read more

      En dag på sjön

      June 6, 2023, Eastern Mediterranean ⋅ 🌙 22 °C

Read more

      Sea day

      April 23, 2023, Eastern Mediterranean ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

First and only sea day today.
The sun is shining not a cloud in the sky but a bit cool on the deck.
Last night we dined in Silver Note again and had another amazing meal - mushroom mouse followed by buttered lobster tail and a berry surprise. The wine moved from an oaky chardy to a delicate sav blanc and then an Italian moscato. The sommelier is knowledgeable and I need to trust his advice. I turned my nose up at the sav balance from Australia but it was fabulous.
There is a singer and pianist entertaining us and the atmosphere is very New York jazz club. We pop into the salt bar to see our favorite bar tender Carlos who is a little bit grumpy but entertaining.
We stay up for the show which encourages audience participation and it’s a dance night again. We meet Derek and Kathy who are originally from Australia but are now living in the Middle East. They are lively company and we chat drink and dance the night away. Holiday Royce in full swing and he is channeling Kell on the dance floor.
We wind our clocks forward and lose an hours sleep so we wake late and head to La Terrazza for breakfast. It is the first time I have seen a crowded venue on board. Still room but it is as full as I have seen any venue.
We pass the onboard shops and I find a very cute dress with a very good special and I make my first onboard purchase.
To the Dolce Vita lounge and there is a martini making demonstration complete with tasting so why not! 3 mini martinis and it’s not lunch time yet. To the pool and it’s a bit chilly but they provide everything you need - blankets, set up the sun bed for you, cool towels, fruit skewers, anything you would like to drink. We break from this strenuous activity to get some lunch at the pool grill. They have a great light lunch snack type menu as well as a poolside buffet plus you can order pizza if you wish. Lunch is accompanied by an Australian chardy and a French rose. Back to the half sun half shade of our poolside possie. We have both finished our books. We may have to check out the library.
We listen to the destination talk about our upcoming Greece and Turkey ports ( new to both of us) and then Bingo and Trivia. Back to our stateroom for caviar and champagne. It’s been a glorious sea day marred only by our dismal result in trivia and the fact we missed the seafood lunch in La Terrazza.

      Quiet Day @ Sea

      April 8, 2022, Eastern Mediterranean ⋅ ☀️ 61 °F

(This post is really just so I can get a footprint into our route … nothing exciting to report.)

The only ding-dong that was broadcast into the cabin today was the bi-weekly safety briefing … in lieu of the in-person muster drill. All good then.

Tonight we attended the Oceania Club Party that was held in the Insignia Lounge for past passengers. The event was hosted by GM Claudio and Oceania Club Ambassador, Cella. We didn’t stay through to the end as we had dinner reservations at the Polo Grill. But we were there long enough to learn that the official passenger count for this segment is 286. That is 20 less than I had originally heard.

Off to wrap up our quiet day at sea with a show in the Insignia Lounge.

      Into the Sea 🌊☀️

      August 19, 2023, Eastern Mediterranean ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

After a morning swim in the sea and a hearty breakfast at the local bakery, I am ready to embark on the ferry and sail to Gavdos. ☕️🥐😎

On board there's a real backpacking vibe, with lots of people carrying their equiment for camping on the beach. A nice mixture of young and old, you can identify who is going to the island for the first time, and who is has been coming for several years and now bringing their family along. ⛴️ 🏝️

We are setting sail for the open sea and approaching Gavdos, the southernmost island of Europe. 🌊🌊🌊🧜‍♂️
