• Perth to Fremantle for the day

    March 31 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 90 °F

Today we made our way to the coast to check out the shipping city of Fremantle.

We started our day with smoothies for breakfast at a local cafe, and then made our way to the ferry dock for a 1.5 hour ferry to the coast from Perth. The ferry ride was beautiful, and gave a us a good sense for the area. There were quite a few very nice houses! Perth became quite wealthy historically due to mining, and we saw the mansion of Gina Rinehart the richest person in Australia(her father owned a major mining company, and she inherited his 30billion fortune and his homes).

After a thoroughly enjoyable ferry ride, we finally arrived in Fremantle. Our first stop was a large local bar called Gage Roads, that had a massive indoor area right on the water. We enjoyed trying out their alcoholic ginger beer and their house ale, as well as a snack of guacamole.

Next we explored the downtown area of Fremantle. Fremantle is renowned for being one of the best preserved 19th century port seascapes in the world, and we really enjoyed the old architecture. It was blazing hot, so we ducked into a bar for drinks and to wait out the sun. The bar we chose was Sail and Anchor, and they had a super fun upstairs area with a snooker table that we had some fun with. The snooker pockets were TIGHT, and it was super hard to score which made it an interesting challenge.

Following our time at Fremantle, we ferried back to Perth and made our way to the Northbridge neighborhood for dinner. We settled on a Korean spot called Popo Lee that had fantastic food(Chelsea much preferred this second attempt at Korean to the last spot that was too spicy).
