      Heute ging es 350 km nach Adana. Über die Autobahn durch das Erdbebengebiet.

      Wir sehen viele Zelte, vereinzelt kaputte Häuser. Und so gedenken wir heute der mehr als 56.000 Menschen,die es nicht überlebt haben und deren Familien.Read more

      2. Day Adana I

      On the second day of our stay in Adana, we decided to explore the city and visit the big mosque with six minarets. It is said to be the largest mosque in Turkey.

      We walked along the promenade, passed some parks and finally came to the mosque which we explored.

      Afterwards we went into town for a meal, unfortunately it was Sunday, so there wasn't much going on and most of the shops were closed.

      Fun Fact: All hairdressers are closed on Sundays.

      1. Day Adana II

      Our first restaurant was called Sef Kepab and is very well rated. Of course, we first had a look at the world-famous Adana Kebap, plus lamb on the spit (Turkish: Kuzu) and many little extras. It was outstanding.

      Later we tried kadayef with kaymak, which is a sweet. Unfortunately, I forgot to record it because we wanted to eat directly. :)

      Towards the end of the evening we went again to a sirdanci, which means offal specialist.

      There was small intestine, large intestine and stomach filled with rice and minced lamb with its own sauce. I know it's not for everyone, I thought it was delicious!

      If anyone is disgusted, they should think about how a sausage is made. ;)      Read more

      Adana (Hittite Adaniya) is Turkey's fifth largest city with more than 2.2 million inhabitants (2021) and the capital of the province of the same name.

      The city probably dates back to a Hittite settlement: Adaniya has been mentioned in historical Hittite texts since the 16th century BC.

      There are various sources for the origin of the name Adana. It is supposedly derived from Adanos, the son of Uranos from Greek mythology. Another possible origin is the derivation from Adanyia, an area near Kizzuwatna in the Hittite Empire.

      To us:
      We arrived in Adana at the Otogar and decided to take a taxi to our accommodation. The ride took about 15 minutes and cost us about 80 Lt.

      After first learning about the city and finding out that Adana is the Turkish capital of good food, we decided to visit some of the very well rated restaurants.

      As we didn't have much cash left, we first had to find an ATM that didn't charge interest. Beware. Most banks in Turkey charge interest even if you have an interest-free credit card, which can be between 5-20%. The only two banks that do not charge interest are HSBC, which is very reliable, and PTT, which is a kind of Turkish Postbank.
      Unfortunately, the second bank is not entirely reliable. We unfortunately had to walk for a long time because the Google entries were not always up to date. When we were finally able to withdraw money, we bought an Adanakart and took a Dolmus back to our accommodation, as there are many good restaurants in the area.      Read more

      Adana, Tag 2

      Gestern haben wir Anne und Angelo wiedergetroffen. Zuletzt hatten wir uns in Saudi gesehen.

      Wir beschließen heute morgen gemeinsam Frühstücken zu gehen. Nach etwas suchen finden wir ein kleines Café in dem wir ein tolles türkisches Frühstück bekommen.

      Wie schon in Van haben wir gedacht, die hören garnicht mehr auf, Leckereien zu bringen. Auch Tee wurde immer wieder nachgeschenkt.

      Was gibt es schöneres, als mit lieben Menschen ein ausgiebiges Frühstück zu genießen und die Zeit zu vergessen.

      Den Nachmittag haben wir dann genutzt noch das ein oder andere zu reparieren und ansonsten uns ausgeruht.      Read more

      Adana Tag 1

      Der erste volle Tag Türkei neigt sich dem Ende. Heute war ich hauptsächlich im Zentrum von Adana unterwegs, in ein paar Parks am Fluss und in den kleinen Gassen der Altstadt. Und die Altstadt kann man sich mit den kleinen Gassen und tausenden von Geschäften auf der Straße genau so wuselig vorstellen, wie man es aus Filmen und Co kennt.

      Im Gegensatz zu der USA Reise ist es weitaus schwieriger alleine zu reisen, weil es schon eine ziemlich andere Kultur ist und keiner wirklich Englisch spricht.
      Die Einzigen waren mein Vermieter vom AirBnB und ein Kellner im Irish Pub.
      Deswegen fungiert Murat in etwa stündlich als mein persönlicher Berater ☝️ Sorry Murat, aber das wird in den nächsten Tagen auch nicht weniger 🤷‍♂️

      Mit Hängen und Würgen habe ich heute zB. ein Busticket nach Kappadokien gekauft. „Hängen“ steht in diesem Fall für meine nicht wirklich vorhandenen Sprachkenntnisse und „Würgen“ für die ausbaufähige Benutzung von Übersetzungsapps. Also ob ich’s wirklich gekauft habe, erfahre ich am Dienstag😄

      Aber das Essen entschädigt für Vieles. Ich weiß nicht, ob ich jemals wieder Adana Kebab essen kann, wahrscheinlich bin ich jetzt total versaut und verwöhnt😄
      Eig mache ich auch nichts anderes als Essen. An jeder Ecke gibt es irgendwas, wo man eig nicht widerstehen kann. Deswegen werde ich auch mit meinen Prinzipien brechen und ab und an Bilder von Essen posten. Schande über mein Haupt ☝️

      Ansonsten habe ich mit Mustafa, dem Kioskbesitzer von nebenan, und seinen Kindern ein bisschen Fussball gespielt. Natürlich haben wir beide die kleinen Scheißer ganz schön nass gemacht. Aber noch erwähnenswerter ist, dass die FC Hymne in Adana verbreitet wurde, dass mehr Zuschauer auf Balkonen generiert wurden als in der BayArena (vor Corona) und vor allem, dass ich mich dabei nicht verletzt habe 🤯🤯      Read more

      Adana Tag 2

      Heute ist Zuckerfest und die Straßen leergefegt. Ich war froh, dass ich heute irgendwas zum Frühstücken gefunden habe.

      Auf der Karte hab ich die Uni direkt an einem See ausgemacht und habe gedacht, dass man dort im Grünen ein bisschen wandern kann. Da die Stadt leer war und ich genügend Zeit hatte, hab ich mir überlegt, ich laufe einfach mal über die Hauptstraßen dort hin. Das hat erstaunlicherweise gut geklappt, weil wirklich überall Bürgersteige waren, sogar an Autobahnauffahrten.
      Was aber nicht so gut geklappt hat, war in der Natur zu wandern 😄 Alles, was einladend aussah, war eingezäunt und man konnte nie wirklich irgendwo in einen Wald oder bis an den See gehen.
      Zumindest von der Uni aus hatte man wirklich einen schönen Ausblick. Dort waren überall kleine Cafés um den Ausblick zu genießen…zumindest in Theorien. Denn wie der Stadt, war ich auch mit ziemlich vielen Straßenhunden und -katzen alleine auf dem ganzen Unigelände und die Cafes waren natürlich geschlossen 😂      Read more

      Day 149

      Big city ride

      Before we left Osmaniye, Savaş brought us pide for breakfast. Thus, we had enough energy for the ride to Adana. The route was flat and not particularly interesting, but we could stay on small roads for most of the time. As it was Sunday, the villages we passed were quiet. We also passed lots of orange and lemon tree orchards and hope to catch at least the beginning of the season in November!
      We arrived in Adana early. The city is huge and cycling in the traffic is not too much fun. We did a little tour through the centre visiting, among others, the Central Mosque, Big Mosque and Old Mosque, the markets, a church and an old bridge. Afterwards, we headed to the North of the city where the guys of the local bicycle club welcomed us. Asiye took us out for Adana kebab and local desserts. She even organised a taxi, so that we could see the huge lake park North of the city. It was lit in colourful lights and it obviously THE place to be at night for the locals here.      Read more
