      Chimaira und Olympos

      June 16 in Turkey ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

      March 7 in Turkey ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

In Spa's zählt man dafür viel Geld 🤪
Eintritt 25 TL p. P.

      Strandtag

      March 8 in Turkey ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

... Naja...
Read more

      Dinner at Valentina Restaurant

      September 14, 2022 in Turkey ⋅ 🌙 27 °C

Coming back from the beach it was time to shower and get dinner.

We stopped at Valentina’s, 5 minutes away from our camping. It was quite busy, so we figured the food must be good. I had spinach gozleme and Razvan went for a sizzling dish again. We had to wait for a very long time to get the food and there was only one waiter who spoke some English, out of the 3 people working there.
Everyone seemed to be getting fussy about having to wait, people were walking around getting their own menus.

On the bright side, turkish çai is on the house and self service. You can get as many refills as you’d like. They also brought out plates with watermelon to everyone. Not sure if this is standard practice or they were just trying to compensate for being slow that evening, but they seemed to be making an effort.

To top it all off, we got some traditional dessert - kunefe. Delicious! Well worth the very long wait.

Çirali et les feux de Chimère

      October 8 in Turkey ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

      Chimera Flames

      September 15, 2022 in Turkey ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

The eternal flames of Chimera are far more interesting when you also know the story behind. So here it is.

Hippones, son of the King of Ephyra, accidentally kills his brother, Belleros, during a hunting party and then he takes a new name: Bellerophontes - the one who ate Belleros. So his father bans him into exile.

He takes refuge with the King of Argos. He feels sorry for the young man and doesn’t want to kill him, so he sents him on to the king of Lycia. This king also doesn’t want to kill a man for nothing, so he leaves his fate at the hand of Gods by ordering him to kill the Chimera.

Chimera was a fire breathing mythical creature, often depicted as a mix of animals (lion, goat and snake, most often). She was the end of many men and brought fear to the region.

Chimera attacks. Bellerophon listens to his intuition and the Gods. He flies on Pegasus, his winged horse, high in the sky and shoots Chimera from up there, getting her straight into the ground. The flames coming up from the rocks are said to be Chimera still breathing out fire from inside the ground.

To celebrate the victory, the people organise a race. The athletes light their torches from the flames and run down to the Olympos city.

This was believed to be the first Olympic Race.

This was short 2km hike, very close to Cirali. You could feel Chimera, as it was so hot, everyone, including us, was sweating heavily in an attempt not melt down.
This is close to Mt Olympos - different than the Greek version of it, where the Gods were said to live.

      Cirali Camping

      September 15, 2022 in Turkey ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

It was still so hot that we only covered half the tent with the second layer. Even so, it was difficult to sleep, because of the heat. Being up also meant we got to see a hedgehog walking around, before going to sleep (or trying to).

Everything looked much better in the morning, under the morning light. It feels wonderful to be camping and traveling a country with such an abundance of fruit. Our camping had pomegranate, mandarin, and lemon trees.
The showers and toilets were basic, but very clean. And we also had warm water, which is always a welcomed surprise at this point.

Cirali is a small place, so there were mostly turkish domestic visitors and Russians. We noticed lots of Decathlon equipment being used in all the campings.

We took a moment to mark the map and update our route, packed everything up and got going again.

      Cirali evening swim

      September 14, 2022 in Turkey ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

We arrived at Cirali in the afternoon with just enough time to setup the tent and then go for a swim. The campings were all pretty similar, lots of trees, and a mix of tents and bungalows.
We were surprised to find out how many Russians are in this area. Even the camp owner where we stayed was a Russian woman in her thirties.
While setting up the tent, I found a necklace, which I left in a tree nearby. A small tribute :)

Cirali is quite small, so the walk from the camping to the beach only took us a few short minutes. Bonus points because it went through a small cacti park.

The beach was one of the wider ones we’ve seen. It was windy, so also a bit wavy, but either way, really nice for a swim. I was touched to see a family that had also brought their grandma with them. Two people supported her as she walked into the water. Then she got an inflatable support and really enjoyed herself. The happiness on her face was touching. It brought me tears to watch them be together like that, 3 generations, thinking about my own grandma and how I would’ve liked to offer her such a moment. Even writing about this makes me tear up again.
It was a beautiful moment, for sure.

      Hitchhiking along the coastline

      October 16, 2019 in Turkey ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

On our way hitchhiking along the Mediterranean coast we met some very helpful and friendly people. Alibaba aka "Shoe doctor" invited us to camp at his farmhouse close to Kaş. Most of the products served during dinner and for breakfast came from their own garden.

In Finike heavy rain stopped us from hitchhiking. It turned out to be the right place. In our guesthouse we felt once more like home. Ramazan's family shared their meals with us and at night we all enjoyed some moves dancingTurkish music. Furthermore the destiny brought us to the twin city of Mosbach :)

We spent our last days at the coast in lovely Çıralı. This has been one of our favourite places so far. We found a piece of paradise here. It has a wild, wide and quiet beach where we enjoyed either beautiful sunrises, long walks nearby the beach or chill swims. A magical place which is even more special for having Yanartaş on the background, a mountain that you can hike during the sunset to find fire coming out of the mountain. This unique rocky mountain site has literally been on fire for thousands of years. The reason lies in abiogenic methane gas that reaches the surface through several holes.
People grill marshmallows and sausages in the fire while enjoying the sea view and some shooting stars.

      Çıralı

      July 14, 2016 in Turkey ⋅ 30 °C

Not: Olympos bizim gittiğimde ücretsiz idi fakat şuan ücretli (30 TL) ve Müze Kart geçiyor.
