TCI Big Sand Cay

Nach der 16 stündigen Überfahrt wachen wir vor dem Strand von Big Sand Cay der Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) auf und freuen uns darüber, was wir in Augenschein nehmen. Eine kleine einsame Insel mit schönem Sandstrand und türkis-blauenMeer. Nach dem Frühstück fahren wir mit dem Beiboot rüber, um die kleine Sandinsel zu erkunden und, um am Strand zu baden. Auf der windzugewandten Seite finden wir ein seichtes sandiges Planschbecken für unsere Kleinen. Auf dem Weg zurück entdecken wir neben etlichen Pastikmüll, der leider überall angespült wird, ein Heck von einem schiffbrüchigem Segelboot. Es ist scheinbar auf dem vorgelagerten Riff zerrieben worden und nur das ca. 2x2 Meter große Heckstück ist übrig geblieben. Wir baden noch etwas und machen Fotos, bevor wir uns dann auf nach Grand Turk machen, wo wir erstmal einklarieren müssen.Read more

Our sailing trip to Turks and Caicos lasted approximately 38 hours. The first surprise awaited us shortly after setting sail. In the bay of Samana, we were surrounded by humpback whales! Water spouts and tail fins everywhere. With binoculars in hand, we observed these fascinating giants until they disappeared from view.

The wind was favorable, consistently blowing between 10 and 23 knots. However, the waves were a bit uncomfortable.
While reefing, the mainsail tore... Tomas attempted a makeshift repair... luckily, it held, and the damage didn't worsen. Who knew duct tape could work wonders! 😎
We arrived at night and dropped anchor in sandy ground. The next morning's surprise: picturesque turquoise waters and white sandy beaches as far as the eye could see.

On the same day, we sailed over to Cockburn Harbor. Along the way, we caught a barracuda. We grilled it for dinner, adding a taste of adventure to our culinary experience at sea!Read more
