      79ème étape ~ Cardiff

      October 19, 2022 in Wales ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

      August 9, 2023 in Wales ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Cardiff Castle, Wales. On our 8 day bus trip around England, Wales and other side of Scotland. So much history, think the Scots, who were the Piks, the Anglo Saxons, the Kelts, Normans, back to the Vikings, Thousands of years of fuedalism, beautiful ancient castles, Manors, Abbeys, buriel grounds, saw Rob Roys cave, the place where Robert the Bruces heart is buried in 16th Century, compare this to our Tirit O Waitangi only 200 years ago, no wonder they were so good at colonising the world after all this!!
35% speak Gaelic in Wales, they have their own flag with the Dragon on it.

      Cardiff Castle - Wales

      July 20, 2023 in Wales ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Cardiff is the Capital and largest city of Wales. Cardiff had a population of 362,310 in 2021, forms a principal area officially known as the City and County of Cardiff (Welsh: Dinas a Sir Caerdydd), and the city is the eleventh-largest in the United Kingdom. Located in the south-east of Wales and in the Cardiff Capital Region, Cardiff is the county town of the historic county of Glamorgan and in 1974–1996 of South Glamorgan. It belongs to the Eurocities network of the largest European cities.[5] A small town until the early 19th century, its prominence as a port for coal when mining began in the region helped its expansion. In 1905, it was ranked as a city and in 1955 proclaimed capital of Wales. Cardiff Built-up Area covers a larger area outside the county boundary, including the towns of Dinas Powys and Penarth.Read more

      Cardiff Castle und chli umegwaggle

      June 20, 2023 in Wales ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Zumene fröhlichere Thema: anschienend hets uf de einte Siite vom Schloss au mal no e "Swiss Bridge" geh, wo nach em Vorbild vo de Kapellbrugg in Luzern baut worde isch.

Nachem Schloss bini gad bim Usgang über "I love Harry" Ständ gstolpered.

      Cardiff.
Read more

Arrivée à Cardiff (Pays de Galles)

      August 4, 2023 in Wales ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

M'enfin...Read more

      February 2, 2018 in Wales ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

      Caerdydd.

      August 8, 2019 in Wales ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Don't worry, I won't try to write anything but the name of Wales' capital in Welsh. Instead, I offer some impressions of the Cardiff Castle, the Cardiff Bay area, the Cardiff Market, and the National Museum as well as the Millennium / Principality Stadium. (It does look like a ship, doesn't it?) Also, huge thanks to the two cyclists Geoff and Jeff with whom I had a lovely chat on the jetty. I also met Stewart and John, twice, who introduced me to all possible conspiracy theories (and somehow still allowed me to take their picture, which I will not put in this gallery of course).Read more

      The Lakes District to Cardiff

      August 27, 2017 in Wales ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

      Snapshot
Where - Scotland to Wales via The Lakes District
      Weather - wet and dry

We arrived back in Scotland and stayed overnight in a quirky little village called Wigtown which is known as Scotlands book town and there were bookshops everywhere (and not much else). From there we drove through the Lakes District which is a very pretty area and we would have enjoyed it except for 2 things. First, the weather was pretty lousy and misty rain spoilt the views. Secondly, we struck the August Bank Holiday long weekend and every man and his dog had left London to spend it camping, hiking etc. Combine this with the atrociously narrow roads and it really was not a pleasant experience. To top it off, there was nowhere to just pull over and take a photo and any parking places were controlled by the National Trust and there were parking fees (usually around £3). Consequently there were not many photos taken in this area.

The following day we headed to the capital of Wales - Cardiff. We had a great time in Cardiff, partly because the weather was glorious, but mostly because our Airbnb hosts were the loveliest couple and we all got on like a house on fire. Back in Cardiff we visited the Dr Who Experience (Cardiff is where Dr Who is filmed). It was pretty good but they concentrated mainly on the more recent Doctors, not the ones I remember from my childhood like Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee. We didn't do Cardiff Castle but we did go to the Cardiff museum. We are finding that one activity a day is probably enough - two at the most. Must be getting old!

The next couple of days are spent in the Devon / Cornwall region of South West England.
