This park has been designated as an Area of Outstanding National Beauty and it's easy to see why!! Absolutely stunning and Nik thought I was mad for running around in my singlet top on - I don't think it was that cold!!

There are farms with a lot of sheep and lambs! And the mountains!! 😀😀😀😀

Lunch bij Tea Room Tu Hwnt i'r Bont L

      November 4, 2023 in Wales ⋅ 🌧 7 °C

Helaas was de reservering mis gegaan maar we konden toch terecht in deze kneuterige tea room met dito bediening. Het duurde even maar dan heb je ook wat heerlijke soort van Welsh tosti en een scone met een flinke kan thee.Read more

      Collapsed!

      September 12, 2023 in Wales ⋅ 🌧 14 °C

The Pont Fawr in Llanrwst with the ivy covered teahouse as a backdrop is a popular spot for selfies and wedding photography.
But it wasn't always all sunshine here...
The bridge is made of three arches, the central one of which is the highest. The keystones for this arch were originally inserted upside down, but this was not discovered until the opening day, when the arch collapsed! The bridge was rebuilt, but the keystones were left upside down as a reminder of this mistake.Read more

Fort Lauderdale - Wales via Dallas

      April 7 in Wales ⋅ 🌬 12 °C

Flight from Fort Lauderdale to Dallas was somewhat disorganised to say the least. Hung around taking on bags etc for a half hour after our scheduled departure. They had to put out several calls reminding people it was a full plane and if they had more than one cabin bag to check it in as hold luggage. This is happening at the gate.
Made it to Dallas late and had to get our asses across to another terminal for the Dallas to London flight. Just made it by the skin of our teeth.
Interesting scenery on the way. Crossed the Mississippi delta and on the London leg saw what used to be the Francis Scott key bridge complete with stuck ship.
Arrived at Heathrow and sorted the hire car. Proceeded to drive to to where we were meeting one of Angela's relatives for breakfast. As a prelude to the age of AI the dopey car navigation took us out of the airport and then through one of the car parks to get to the road it want. That cost us 7 quid. Thanks.
Then off to Wales where we are staying with the people who we went to Uganda with. 4 hrs on a busy freeway and we are dead tired. Made it in one piece though.
Fish and chips for dinner. Better than any the the ship served up and then crashed into bed. The hire car wasn't finished with us yet. The car alarm went off a couple of times in the night due to strong winds. Sigh...

      Llandudno and the Great Orme

      April 7 in Wales ⋅ 🌬 12 °C

Some sightseeing today. Weather is very UK. Went to have a ride on the cable tramway up a local feature called the Great Orme, which is a big hill/península down the coast. Had breakfast at the sea front and went to Llandudno. Tram was not running due to high winds. Sigh.. Andy and I decided to walk up and Angela and Jan went off to have a coffee/tea.
Long story short, it was effing steep but we got there. The wind at the top was so strong that we were nearly blown over. Hard to hold the camera steady so few pictures. It took about 1/3 of the time it took to go up to get back down again.
Llandudno is a very British seaside town with lots of neat buildings I presume are Georgian and a gently sloping rocky beach that would be nice when the tide is in.

      Trip to Anglesey

      April 8 in Wales ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Quick trip over to the Isle of Anglesey to have a look around and have lunch at Red Wharf Bay. No boats involved, you can just drive over one of the bridges.
Had a look around Beaumaris on the Menai Strait. Very pretty. People were crabbing on the pier and the Life Boat shed was open so we had a look at that and donated our change as they are an all volunteer organisation.
Walked along the beach in front of the Red Wharf tavern. Short walk at the time but we watched the tide go out over lunch. Then you could have done a really long walk.
I am feeling somewhat cr*p. The cough zombies on the ship succeeded and I have the surgical. Embarrassing to bring foreign germs into a friend's house. Trying to mask up in the car etc. Not too many pix. I am focusing on YouTube footage. 😞

      Conwy Castle

      April 22, 2023 in Wales

The castle is so evocative, it might be my favorite so far, and I got there early enough that there were very few other people. The estuary is picturesque, too, and the bridge pictured is actually the first of that type of suspension bridge ever built, as was the box-shaped railroad bridge. The views shown are all from the castle. The pic of me sitting is on the toilet in the king's chambers, meaning in all likelihood, Edward I sat there at one point, which is pretty neat.Read more

      Wales

      June 20, 2023 in Wales ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Nun sind wir in Wales. Ganz anderes Landschaftsbild. Ganz viele große unheimlich verschiedene Baumarten.
Waren heute in Conwy.

      North to Wales and Conwy

      May 6, 2022 in Wales ⋅ ☁️ 57 °F

Today was a travel day to Conwy in Wales. We stopped a few places along the way. We had nice weather until late afternoon when we entered Wales. Oh, we were slowed down by gypsies traveling on the road with horse driven trailers!

Near the Wales border in Shropshire we visited Stokesay Castle. It’s a fortified manor house that was built in the late 17th century for a rich wool merchant, Lawrence of Ludlow, and it has changed very little since the 13th century. It’s unusual because it has an almost complete set of medieval buildings. The audio presentation and tour was very well done, and I even climbed the fairy tale tower! Before leaving we enjoyed a cream tea for a mid morning treat. Cream tea is a pot of tea with a scone, clotted cream and jam.

Our scenic drive took us from the southern border of Wales all the way to the northern border with our destination being Conwy. The landscape was breathtaking. We couldn’t stop to take pictures because of the winding roads, but I don’t see how photos could capture the beauty of the bright green hills, forests, mountains, valleys, rock walls and many sheep. I wonder if there are more sheep than people in Wales! It’s a perfect time because of the number of lambs with their mamas…adorable. They say that the rain is liquid sunshine here. Conwy is a walled harbor town attached to a castle overlooking the Irish Sea.

We’ve had great hotels, but this one has a lot of amenities which makes it a little more special in our rooms…chocolate bars, cookies, variety of hot drinks, warm towel racks, deluxe toiletries, robes, and a cute dragon on the bed! If you put him outside your door, he will protect your room! The dragon is on the Welsh flag.

We ended the night with a group dinner in the hotel restaurant…classy place. I tried something new…lamb shank. I was hesitant, but it was actually quite good!

      Manchester & Wales

      April 7 in Wales ⋅ 🌬 13 °C
