Spuren alter Zeiten in London 🇬🇧

      August 29, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

      Goodbye London😓

      October 1, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Just a few pictures to share from the end of London. First, the NFL game I attended (AHHHHHH IT WAS SO FUN). It seriously was a blast. I had a great seat, sat by myself but was surrounded with amazing fans that were super invested in the game which is truly the best, and I got a T-shirt. The whole area was decked out in Jacksonville stuff so I became a Jaguars fan for the day. My last full day in London was on October 6. It really was a blast. I went with Sarah and Mitchell to a test kitchen in Notting Hill. We paid 7 pounds to get in, they seat you in a bookstore, and then you are served a 3 course meal. They try new recipes daily. It was super good and such a fun experience. Then we went shopping at Harrods… love. I found the most amazing pair of sunglasses that I decided to pass on as it would be a poor financial decision. BUT I did buymyself a curling iron because I was tired of my straight hair. Unfortunately I will now forever have a curling iron that plugs into a UK outlet. So I will always need an adapter to use it hahaha but I’d say it was worth it. Lastly, I put together a very short video (a “reel” as we like to call it) of some clips from London for you to see.
Overall, London was fantastic. It seriously is the most beautiful city with beautiful people. It is big, there are so many things to do, so many different types of food, great public transportation, and we really lucked out with great weather for our time there. I MUST go back soon. The next update will detail how our group finally made it to Berlin after a cancelled flight:) stay tuned

      Ist das diese Afrika ?

      April 3, 2022 in England ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

Lets see

      Chiswick

      May 27, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Saturday morning, I took care of dirty business--my laundry. While it was having a whirl, I had coffee at a nearby cafe and found myself in the midst of a promotional video shoot for a sports team that was playing later that day in the local champions league.

Cafes had already become a bit of a habit, but I did try to take snacks and drinks from the supermarket with me later in the day so I'd stay away from them!

      Another day in London

      September 10, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 79 °F

When in London with a lifelong soccer referee, you can’t NOT go see the world famous Wembley Stadium. Adam was thrilled. It holds a few “best and biggest” titles - it is the 3rd largest stadium in the world, has the most toilets in any facility in the world (over 2600), it is built in such a way as there are NO posts or obstructions in the entire facility, it has an amazing retractable roof, and lastly, was the venue for the world renowned Live Aide concert in 1985. It was a fantastic tour.

We then took a boat ride down the Thames to Greenwich park, Maritime museum, and the Royal observatory. Again, can’t NOT visit when in London with an Astrophysics major. Fascinating learning all about the Greenwich Mean time and seeing the historic facility.

Then I coaxed Adam onto the the London Cable Car across the river. (Really didn’t know he had such a fear of heights - the things you learn when traveling together). Beautiful views.

      Grand Union Canal; Paddington Arm

      May 10, 2023 in England ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

The Paddington Arm of the Grand Union Canal is 13.5-miles long, lock free, and runs from Bull's Bridge in Hayes to Paddington in central London; its only junction is with the Regent's Canal at Little Venice towards its end.  The Paddington Arm was opened in July 1801 to give boats access to central London rather than via the River Thames and encouraged the establishment of many well-known firms along its route.

From Bull's Bridge, the canal towpath is shared with the Hillingdon Trail for the first couple of miles as it passes through Southall to Northolt; Northolt is the home for Engineer’s Wharf with its pricey moorings and adjacent Grand Union Village, which was built on the site of an old brick works.  The route passes through a long stretch of open countryside as it goes through Horsenden and Alperton - Greenford, Perivale, and Ealing are a little further south.  A large aqueduct takes the canal over the busy North Circular road (A406) before we pass through an area where Wormwood Scrubs open space is on our right and then the huge Kensal Green cemetery, resting place of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, is on our left.

We pass the outskirts of North Kensington and Maida Vale; Trellick Tower, a Grade II listed tower block on the Cheltenham Estate in North Kensington with a separate access tower and abutting plant house, is an example of the so-called "Brutalist architecture" of the 1960s.  We are getting close to Paddington now and finally reach Little Venice - it has been a long day, an almost 21-mile walk (along the flat).

      Def Leppard & Motley Crüe

      July 1, 2023 in England ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Nezinu.

      TIMBERRRRR!!!

      June 2, 2019 in England ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Today started out as a great day! After saying our goodbyes at the airport we walked out into the sun to our freedom... and boy did it feel good! After extensively preparing for my new job as “the adult”, I knew exactly how to get from the airport to our hotel. We found a spot to stand against the wall on the crowded tube, and we were finally on our way to enjoying a couple days in London. After almost a week of cold and rain, the sun seemed like a blessing and I couldn’t wait to trade my leggings and coat for some shorts and a T-shirt. As we came to a stop halfway through our journey into the city, I couldn’t contain my excitement! As I turned to tell Taylor another story about my time studying in London, WHAM! She fainted. Face first. Straight onto the floor of the overcrowded tube. I’d love to say that the kind souls of London were quick to lend a helping hand, but alas they proved to be the bastards that the American colonists claimed they were and just stared at the two of us. One passed out on the floor and the other desperately looking around and loudly, somewhat calmly, asking for help and a doctor. Ironically, the first person to come over wasn’t even English, but a Spanish woman traveling with friends whom I had been eavesdropping on trying to test how much Spanish I actually learned this last semester. A second lady from the other end of the car ran up behind her and sat down with Taylor. She checked on and comforted her while I tried to get the attention of a staff member from the station. While we were getting yelled at by the conductor for blocking the doors of the train, we finally got in contact with the station workers. They held Taylor up and helped us off the tube and into some cool fresh air. The station workers kindly brought us some water and stayed with us until Taylor assured them she was fine. After asking her how she was and how she felt, I held my breath waiting for what was sure to be a response of “I want to go home”, but she looked at me with the faintest (no pun intended) sign of a smirk and said “you didn’t tell my mom did you?”. Shaking my head and releasing a sob of relief I sat down next to her. After I was satisfied that I had exhausted all of my first aid medical knowledge, we stayed on the bench and cried (me) and laughed (Taylor) about our first hour in London. Thirty minutes later we were back on the tube and headed to the safety of our hotel. Surprisingly, all of our luggage, passports, and money made it with us. Minus Taylor’s broken glasses that is...... oops! Sorry Denise!
