      Day 7 - all done!

      October 4, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ 🌧 50 °F

What an adventure! We truly experienced it all: spectacular scenery, wonderful new friends, biting winds, heavy rain, brilliant sunshine, blistered feet, sore joints, excellent scotch, warm and welcoming Scottish people, crisp cider, adorable dogs, chips with curry gravy...we could go on and on. We learned a lot about ourselves and each other, and we are already planning our next big walk!Read more

      Day 6 - Devil’s Staircase

      October 3, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 48 °F

Today was the not-so-nice Scottish weather we feared. We hit the highest elevation point on the trail, and heading down from that was windy and rainy. Today was only 9miles, but the last 3 were downhill on an old military road, which did no favors to Sara’s sore knee. We shared dinner in Kinlochleven with our day one trail friends Jim and Glenn. Excited for our friends who are flying over to London tonight, that we will meet up with on Thursday!Read more

      Loch Livin’

      August 8, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

After a terrible night’s sleep in the cramped car, we were both pretty excited to get up and start the day. We decided we needed to buy a tent so we added that to the plan for the day. We packed up the car and started making our way towards Glencoe where we wanted to do some walks that day. On the way, we stopped at the Corpach Marina cafe again for breakfast, which turned out to the biggest breakfast we both had in our lives as we ordered a full scottish breakfast. After eating our own weight in food (H: so much meat!), we continued our drive out to Glencoe. The scenery was incredible, driving alongside huge lochs and through mountain valleys and rolling hills. We were hoping to stop at the Three Sisters for a walk but parking was hard to come by so we continued further and then eventually parked at the start of a walk which we didn’t know the name of (we later learnt the name was Buachaille Etive Beag). We didn’t really know where the walk would go to, but after 2 hours of climbing, we reached a 900m peak with stunning views across the valley, and perfect weather to boot. After a pretty exhausting walk back down to the car, we were ready to kick back and relax at a campground. A bit of searching took us to a beatiful campsite in Caolasnacon on the south shore of Loch Leven and we managed to find a spot by the water to pitch our tent. We headed out to Kinlochleven for a quick drink at a beautiful old pub/hotel overlooking a loch, and stopped off on the way back to grab groceries for dinner. Once back at the campsite we cooked up a delicious meal on our disposable bbq and got ready for a much more comfortable night’s rest in the tent. -VRead more

LEJOG Day 25 - Dalmally to Kinlochleven

      September 24, 2022 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Bracing 6°C start with clear blue skies and mist rising from the River Orchy made the first 20km very scenic.

As we get further north in Scotland, there are fewer road options so again we were on an 'A' road for a good part of the day. Lots of motorbikes on the route also enjoying the winding road through the Highlands.

Dramatic views but I imagine in bad weather it would be a very bleak and unpleasant cycle. A long uphill rewarded us with a smooth fast 10km descent into Glencoe, where we diverted to take the chairlift up the mountain.

Kinlochlevan is popular with climbers and boasts an indoor ice climbing wall as well as bouldering and traditional climbing walls. However a 2 day motocross event was on and there were bikes everywhere accompanied by the distant whine and revs as they attacked the mountain course.

      Distance: 72 km. 775m Ascent

      Steall Falls

      June 7, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Deep into the green valley took us the path toward the waterfall. It doesn’t look real at all, the intensive colors and the murmer of the fall. Even our drive towards Skye was amazing, all those colors and sometimes is a sheep along the road🐑Read more

      Stage 6: Kingshouse-Kinlochleven

      June 11, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

      Endstation

      June 15, 2016 in Scotland ⋅ 🌧 10 °C
