      Letzter Tag in London

      March 5, 2020 in England ⋅ 🌧 5 °C

      Day 3: London

      June 25 in England ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

During our stay in London, visiting Elizabeth Street in Belgravia was a definite highlight on our itinerary. The charming shop fronts adorned with vibrant flowers were just as picturesque as we had hoped.
A particular delight was our stop at Peggy Porschen' bakery, where we indulged in a delightful high tea. Mum surprised me with Peggy's latest book; so no guesses what i will be doing when i get back home ......
Following our morning tea, we made our way to the War Memorial in Hyde Park. It was an unexpected privilege to witness a procession of the King's Guards on horseback, en route to Buckingham Palace for the Emperor of Japan's visit—a truly spectacular sight.
We finished our stay with a visit to Selfridges Department store, where were saw the most delightful toyshop and of course some delicious looking cakes and pastries.
Afterwards, it was time to head to Gatwick Airport for our flights to Barcelona. Leaving England, our hearts were heavy with the memories of such a wonderful experience!

      Day 32 - Packing 💼

      July 3 in England ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Had to start packing this morning 😪
Lucky we managed to get everything in! 🙈 bags are definitely full and heavy lol

Had a quick trip to Tescos with Hollie and Debs today. Love this place! It's countdown/warehouse/kmart all mixed together lol literally you can shop for anything!

Home to some lunch and final packing.
Kels and Guy went with Hollie to pick Tyler up from school, then they popped to the park for a play before coming home for a quick swim! Bit cold for that today!

Then came the time we hate most.. saying Goodbye 😭😢
It has been a wonderful 12 days with Cory, Hollie, Tyler & meeting Leo. It was so special to spend some extended time here as it has been a long 4 years apart 🥹 We will miss them sooo much, already cannot wait for the next meeting!
Debs & Graeme also welcomed us into the home with open arms which we are very grateful.

I will never ever complain about NZ roads again 😅
Love looking at the old architecture and learning about all the history. Gosh NZ is such a new country 🙈

It's definitely been a very sad evening saying Goodbye to close family and also knowing that our holiday has come to an end 😢 I sit here and reflect on an incredible 5 weeks ❤️
945 pm flight soon and 30 hours to get home. Wish us luck!

      Sucker for Shake Shack

      December 28, 2019 in England ⋅ ☁️ 8 °C

We gave ourselves enough time get to Gatwick and with time to spare we had Shake Shack burgers. Now when you do the conversation Shake Shack burgers in London are so expensive. But we are addicted and we were hungry so we had burgers at 9:30am. No shame in our burger game.

We then headed to boarding and timed it very well as our wait was minimal. Again I am loving the service on the Dreamliner. Also loving the Prosecco in the premium seats

      Homeward bound

      July 9, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

After a month in the UK, we are headed home. After finally clearing security... (we nearly got wisked off by boarder patrol due to some contraband orange and apple juice 🤪) we went hunting for some dinner. I didn't hold high hopes, but we got lucky and found a restaurant that catered to all our dietary needs/preferences. So we've all had a good feed (probably our last until we reach home) - hooray! And now we are parked in the airport departure lounge, awaiting our first flight.Read more

    • Gatwick to Calgary

      July 10, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Having successfully dismantled and packed my bike with all of my gear into a cardboard box, I set off to the airport to catch my flight to Calgary, Canada., to attempt to cycle The Great Divide, 2800 miles over mountain tracks, unaided and solo. With an equal amount of excitement and trepidation I am both nervous and terrified about this adventure that has come around quickly. It seems like all the months of planning and preparation are now for real. The Visa applications, training sessions, planned routes, tents, kit, food, knowledge, transport, excel spreadsheets……the preparation has been immense. Tonight, I am staying at Gatwick airport, so I am ready for my flight tomorrow morning. In 24 hours I will be (hopefully) unpacking my bike and shopping for essentials in Banff, a bucket list place to visit for me. Things I couldn’t take with me on the plane that I need are; bear spray, camping gas, bear lines, lighters, and food. I have read as many forums as I can, books and trained and cycled miles with my bike fully loaded, (and not), but only when I set off on the 13th will I know how prepared I really am. I suspect there are many things that I have forgotten and many things I will be pleased I considered. Until then I will set my alarm and enjoy my last night in a hotel room.Read more

      Vancouver, Canada to London, England

      May 23 in England ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

We flew from Vancouver to London on a British Airways flight in an old Boeing 777. The flight was kind of boring for Mama and Papa, but not for me, I had my Nintendo Switch! The flight was around 10 hours long. I played for a while, then went to sleep. I got to lie down because we got two rows, one of three, one of four. When I woke up, there was still about 3 hours left, so I watched tv, then went on the switch. Before we boarded the flight, I met the pilots, and introduced myself. When we landed in London, I got invited to the cockpit to see the pilots. They were really nice to me. They took some photos with us. When we got out of the airport, we took an Uber and went to our hotel called the Premier Inn at Paddington. After a little siesta, we had a walk about the area. We found out that it was a great area, and is close to lots of important places. We had dinner at Pizza Express and then went to sleep.

      June 14

      June 16 in England ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

We took advantage of the nice weather and made a final walk to the top of the rocks at the point in Muxia. This provided us with one final look at the incredible 360 view. We then rushed back to meet our taxi for the ride back to Santiago. We spent the afternoon in Santiago with Kamla and Joyce enjoying some time visiting over drinks and exploring the market and other parts of this bustling city. After they left for their flight, we wandered around the shops making a few purchases. We were all excited with our final accomodations, a lovely hotel room in the center of town with lots of character and luxurious towels. A final dinner at a cafe on a busy street allowed for fabulous people watching. Our Camino is complete and I am thankful for the support from Dave, family and friends and the opportunity and ability to do it. After my health concerns this past year, I was very concerned if I would physically be able to do it. However, I feel my health concerns helped me listen to my body and practice self kindness making adjustments when necessary such as walking a part day, catching a bus and taking rest days. Buen Camino.Read more

      You are very late

      December 15, 2019 in England ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

Having a 11am flight we thought we had lots of time to get to Gatwick. What we did take into account was the train being on a Sunday schedule and delays.

The train pulled into the south terminal at 9:45am. We pushed through the children and the elderly to arrive at the Royal Air Morc desk at 9:58. The one attendant was not happy and gave us sass about being very late and how we should have taken an earlier train. Yep. Noted. He was the one that determined if we got our ticket so we just smiled and nodded.

The funny thing is that we are now checked in and have 45 minutes before boarding and they do even have a gate for our late. So are we really that late?? The board says that the gate will be announced at 10:50 but we are supposed to board at 10:45? I feel we are going to duck up and get sassed again.

Update: It is 11:01 and we are not even on the plane. Now who is late Mr. Sassy pants.

      BER - LGW

      April 9, 2023 in England ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C
