      Godolphin

      September 3 in England ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

    • Cancelled Trains and Penryn

      May 28, 2017 in England ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

We had tickets for the 8:50 am train to Penzance from Paddington. They announced it was cancelled as the crew didn't show up. So we were told to take the 10:50 train. It was cancelled too for the same reason. So we waited for the 11:50 train. It did go on time but the carriages were crammed with bags and people. We got to Penryn around 5:20. Our guest house (Number 50 Town House) is really nice. We went down to the Thirsty Scholar pub for drinks and food. Patrons can bring dogs into the pub. There were some nice dogs hanging out there. We also met two older Canadian travellers who are staying in our guest house and are driving around. They were at Lands End to day and said it was wet and windy. After that we walked around town a bit for some exercise which was hard after a few drinks.Read more

    • Visit with Cousin Vivian

      May 29, 2017 in England ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

We had a nice English breakfast at the Thirsty Scholar pub. We then walked down to visit cousin Vivian. She is now living in Penryn and has a nice place alongside a tidal estuary. There was a pair of swans with 8 goslings that we watched. After a visit we had lunch at the Muddy Beach cafe and then walked 30 minutes into Falmouth. There are Vote Labour posters all around as the general election is coming up soon. We shopped a bit in Falmouth ; some of the stores we have been to before and we very much like, including "Bow", "New Look" and "Trego". A cruise ship was in port and there were quite a few tourists walking Market Street. The sun came out for a bit and it was actually warm. We walked back to Penryn and met Vivian for dinner at the Thirsty Scholar. We had fish and chips which were great and Vivian had pizza. We are in our room now and getting organized for another Falmouth day tomorrow.Read more

    • Day in Penryn and Falmouth

      May 30, 2017 in England ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Today we had an easy start to the day - slept in, had breakfast and wandered down to Viv's place. Lesley came over from St. Agnes and we all had a nice visit, followed by a lovely lunch at The Shed in Falmouth. We did some more wandering around in Falmouth (Viv and Lesley went back to Viv's place). Our big purchase of the day was a new red collar for Sammy! After a rest back at our room, we met up with Viv and Lesley again and we all headed over to Mylor Bridge to the Lemon Hill pub where we had more great beer and cider and great pub dinners. After saying goodbye 🙁 to Viv and Lesley we returned to our room to pack up and get ready for the next stage of our journey, which starts tomorrow - on to Westward Ho! and the start of the hiking on the SW Coastal Path.Read more
