      Day 31 Sidmouth

      June 30, 2022 in England ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

      Länge: 24 km
      Gesamt-Strecke: 847/1.014 km
      Dauer: 7 Stunden
      Höhenmeter: ca. 650 m
Wetter: mittel/stark bewölkt, leichter Wind, viel Regen
Sachen gibts 😁Read more

15b. Sidmouth; Byes to Donkey Sanctuary

      April 5, 2022 in England ⋅ ⛅ 5 °C

The Byes in Sidmouth is an attractive green corridor that follows the River Sid from Sidford, a small village on the outskirts of Sidmouth, to the sea at Sidmouth; there are footpaths, open fields and parkland here. The Donkey Sanctuary is a British charitable organisation devoted to the welfare of donkeys and is based a few miles outside of Sidmouth, near Trow.

We start in Sidmouth at the picturesque Toll House on Waterloo Bridge that crosses the River Sid; it is actually a Grade II listed council home. Along the Byes we pass some weirs and explore Margaret's Meadow, before crossing the river to the village of Fortescue. It is then a steep climb through woods and across a field to reach the road for the descent to the village of Salcombe Regis; this is a tiny unspoilt village with a beautiful Norman Church and has a lovely churchyard. We then cross more fields to reach Slade House Farm, the home of The Donkey Sanctuary, home to over 500 donkeys and mules; it is interesting to walk round and see the animals.

      Sidmouth

      August 15, 2019 in England ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

After waving goodbye to Kirsty we travelled to Sidmouth to catch up with Granny Mac and the Jones'. Will is over from Sydney, Oscar and Toby were already there, and Tom, Lindsey and Midge were coming down for the weekend so a full house of Jones'.
The first day was very wet so we didn't leave the apartment. We had a lazy day and enjoyed a couple of games of scrabble with Granny Mac - her recent tuition from Uncle Stewart had greatly improved her game.
The following day was much brighter so after a light lunch at Dukes on the sea front we were able to join the Jones' for an evening bbq.

      Salcombe Regis

      April 22, 2021 in England ⋅ ☀️ 10 °C

We spent three nights at Salcombe Regis at a site set high above Sidmouth, and were looking forward to catching up with Alan's mum. We had also arranged to see Alison and Russell for a drink on the sea front.
K's knee problem was improving daily and we walked into town on each day, returning in the dark using torchlight and clear star filled skies.
Some lovely presents arrived for A to celebrate his birthday on 23rd, which was a nice surprise.
We enjoyed an early evening rendevous with Alison and Russell on the seafront in the sunshine, however, there was a cold wind rushing along the promenade.
Matt's parents were travelling nearby and had arranged to stay at Salcombe Regis too on Saturday. We arranged to meet up with them in Sidmouth for an afternoon coffee where they were introduced to great granny mac.
We retuned to the van in early evening to share a coupe of glasses of wine with Madeline and Richard and to be introduced to Bella their new dog who is delightful.
      A thoroughly good weekend.
At the end of this short trip Karen's knee was giving no trouble at all.
