    From coast to coast

    July 30, 2018 in the United Kingdom ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Less than a month ago, i was on the other side of this island. Now in front of me there is the North Sea and the cliffs of England. Until i reach Scotland, i will see the Ocean many times, because i drive on the North Sea cycling track. I hope the wind and weather will be on my side.

    Saltburn by the Sea

    August 15, 2018 in the United Kingdom ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Spent the day with Karen's parents and family - had a mooch around Redcar - managed to resist a Pacittos ice cream but it wasn't easy.
Stayed overnght at Cat Nab at Saltburn - had our first take-out fish and chips since Tom and Lindsay's wedding many years ago (fish and chips in Blackpool which still lie heavy on the stomach) These were perfect however so we celebrated further by having a drink in The Ship - next to the beach as the heavens opened. Why on earth would you want to buy Sharpes beer (from Cornwall) up here - the best alternative was lager - how depressing is that in a centuries old pub.
Following day went to Dalton Park shopping mall - nuff said - except that a great deal of fruit was bought by D and M for the 2018 christmas cakes - yum

    May 4 in the United Kingdom ⋅ 🌬 9 °C

We travelled up the A1 on Saturday heading for the north east to visit Karen's family. A quick stop en route at Newark for us to buy essentials for Hazel at a motorhome dealership. The journey took longer than expected, although the roads were not too busy. Very windy as we approached Redcar with spots of rain. It was good to see Karen's parents again after so long and to catch up with their news. We stayed in Redcar for 4 nights, sleeping each night on the Stray overlooking the sea. There were a few other vans also staying over, but we reckon the hostile weather kept the numbers down!!!! Very cold, wet and windy for 3 of the 4 days, but we managed to get out and about. We spent a lovely day in Whitby (one of our favourite places in England) and enjoyed a belated birthday celebration meal at the Jolly Sailors pub on the moor road. Great food as ever there. We left Redcar in torrential rain and howling wind to make our way further north. Thank goodness we didn't get rid of all our winter clothes when we set off travelling. They are very much in use at the moment!!!!! The weather can only get better!!!Read more

    June 5 in the United Kingdom ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Moving down the coast we caused havoc in Alnwick - we went in search of a filling station and the GPS took us down the main street - unfortunately at the end of it there is a very low arched and ancient entry/exit point into the town. In theory it offered 15mm clearance for Hazel to get through and A was not prepared to get stuck. We reversed gingerly back along the very busy high street and with a bit of help from a friendly local managed to turn round and escape around the town another way.
Alnwick looked to be a lovely little town with a large and impressive castle. We resolved to return on our next trip north when the locals will not want to stab us.
We spent two lovely days with Margaret and Donald in Redcar prior to heading further south. Karen visited a fabric and craft shop in Guisborough to buy materials for her latest project and A assisted Donald in clearing a large Ivy from their rear garden. We free camped both nights on the stray between Redcar and Marske with only a French motorhome beside us - very peaceful.

    May 27, 2018 in the United Kingdom ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Post party chilling - free camp on Redcar stray for a couple of nights.
The sea fret arrives and temperatures drop. Karen's mum and dad had been very lucky for weekend weather for party.
Went rock pooling with Stew, Em and Magnus on Redcar beach and had a look at the 50k year old tree stumps behind the cinemaRead more

Back to Redcar for Sunday Lunch with Margaret and Donald and to meet Steve (boyhood friend of Alan's and award winning architect) who was up to discuss materials with his clients.
Free camp on Redcar stray - sea fret came down and could not see the sea which was 30 metres away.
